Is There A Sword Based Class Coming?

I know assassins have some weapons that look like swords, but they also use claws and daggers and don't have any sword based skills. I was wondering if there would ever be a sword based class since they're pretty common in MMORPGs and swords are cool.

 

Yeah, sword based classes are common in mmo's I don't see why Wynn shouldn't add a sword based class.

 

until the gavel update we didn't have a texture pack so the weapons were a bow for archers, a spade (spear) for warriors, shears (daggers) for assassins and a stick (wand) for mages. you couldn't use a sword for spell casting back then (or now for that matter) as the spell casting takes a click combination but swords already have uses for both right click and left click so it wouldn't work.

 

Now, with the resource pack, all of the weapons are blocks, so that won't be an issue.

 

But that doesn't mean they can't add them, bc currently retextured blocks are used as weapons.

Seriously though, there's nothing much more to say. The addition of the texture pack does indeed make it possible. But that's it. The admins haven't mentioned it, no class idea or suggestion uses it because of that fact, etc.
We can't really say if they will or not because it's never been a possibility before. It is now, and that's really all there is to it. Can't speculate much further with just that knowledge.

Just because a server isn't fully optimized for 1.9+ right now doesn't mean it won't be in the future.

 

Nope! We won't have one coming, the closest thing to it though is the Warrior, which is basically the same thing but with a shovel.

Aww, I was working on a suggestion thread and everything.

 

You can still suggest it! But I don't think we have plans for a new class any time soon because the current update is being worked on. But suggestions never hurt, just gotta make sure to be thoughtful about it.

 

Yeah the assassin seems more swordsman based then the knight does.

 

Probably because it is a blade and not really a pokey thing.

 

I think I'm getting really tired because I found the word choice hilarious.
but yeah, the assassin class does seem to be more swordslike, as it uses slashing (spin attack), rapid exchanges (multihit) and feinting (vanish and smoke bomb) to fight

 

I'm working on a more up-front (parry and lunge) swordsman, though I think I'll save it to post another time while I work on it.
