Is There A Problem With Depressing Weapon Drops?

Over the past two days, I've been trying to get the four Depressing Weapons for the Bob's Lost Soul quest. I've commented on this in the SB, and gotten some feedback, so here is what I've seen, and I believe that drops are a bit bugged. I am aware that drops have been changed, and I believe that mobs may only drop items if the mob is close to your level. I'm not certain of this. (If it is true, then getting depressing weapons will be almost impossible.) But, please, read on, and I'm going to start with the tale of my Lv66-67 Warrior.

First, Sunday through today (Monday), I spent more than 7 hours trying to get any drops of depressing weapons*. I slaughtered sheep by the hundreds, ending up with 5 stacks of regular wool. Remember, regular wool does not drop on every sheep kill? I do. In that entire time, the sheep dropped no weapons at all. None. Of any kind. And only one piece of armor. Prior to the Gavel update, I would have one to two depressing weapons for each stack of regular wool, and so many regular weapons and armor that I was dumping the stuff for other players to take, as needed. So, yes, something has definitely changed.

Second, I went to Ragni in order to farm the Weak Zombies and along the Emerald Trail. The only armor that I had on was the Mummy's Rag, which has no loot bonus, and I was using an Oak Wood Spear, which is as basic as you can get. Part of those 7 hours was spent here, skewering mobs. After a while, with no drops other than Rotten Flesh and emeralds, I decided to start counting kills. At 513 kills, I had gotten no armor nor weapon drops. None. Let alone any Depressing Weapons. At this point, I went back to the SB to ask, again, if anyone knew anything about this. Well, yes, there was some experience along the same lines that I was having. Then @Cubie had an idea: try it with a new character.

Third, the new character attempt. In the first hour out of Ragni, killing mobs along the emerald trail, I got two Depressing Bows. That's interesting. That's at about the same rate as before the update, killing sheep, with a Lv75 character. So, I went to Detlas, and slaughtered sheep. A Lv12 Mage with a wooden staff and no special armor doesn't do so well against Lv13 zombies. Take my word for it. So, with a lot of running around, and a lot running for my life, in a little more than 45 minutes I got - - - NOTHING, other than some wool and some bruises.

So, can I get the opinion, or better yet, a real bit of knowledge, from at least one GM, as to A) what is going on with Depressing Weapon drops, B) where is the best place to try to obtain Depressing Weapons, now, and C) what kind of armor and weapons should be used in order to get Depressing Weapons before getting them becomes depressing?

*No wonder I've seen outrageous prices for Depressing Weapons.

 

EMPHASIS MINE Unfortunately, as the Depressing Weapons are needed at a higher level, if your theory is true, it has already made obtaining Depressing Weapons horribly time consuming. The Depressing Weapons need to be more readily available at any level, and especially below and above the level of the Bob's Lost Soul quest.

At the very worst, as the drops are occurring, I can see having a class to just get Dep Weps, and when it gets too advanced, wiping it out. The only other option is to take up another four item slots for Dep Weps, early on, provided that you knew that you would need them. I've got three bows at the moment, so I'm willing to trade, or just outright buy, a Dep Dagger from you.

Not directed at you, @Riuzake, but a comment, in general: If this system stays at it is, I will never wipe any of my classes. Eight hours to check this out was too aggravating. [No, no one asked me to. I did it so that I would have some data to show what was going on with the Dep Wep drops.]

 

Well, I know that a patch was pushed through at about 9:50 pm, my local time, for various fixes. That patch killed my mission XP, again (and it is on GitHub). Whether or not that patch affected drops, I don't know, however, as @Riuzake had noticed, at Lv14-15, I also got a Depressing Shear. I bought a Depressing Staff from another player, who was also Lv14. Notice the pattern here? It follows Riuzake's theory. I'm still on the hunt for a Depressing Spear.

 

I am currently going through the horid proccess of getting Dep Weapons, and after more then an hour and a half of farming lv. 1 mobs in the Ranch near Ragni, I started to get worried and looked it up on the forums, found this. I can confirm that I did get depressing weapons when I started grinding this warrior, I sold them and now I cri :( , and now I cant get any. Seams like the issue as not been fixed I fear.
Im going to try to make a new char and grind, or I might just skip the quest entirely untill the issue is fixed...

 

I am selling the spear, bow and stick for 6 EB each, if you still wanted the items.

 

If you still have them i'd by the bow and spear.

 

This really needs to be fixed. Or at least make it clear that you need to start a new character to get the weapons. I've wasted way too many hours on this.

 

People are like: Start a new class, but what are you supposed to do when you used all your classes?
