SPOILER Is Eltom Really Secret?

Everyone who’s done The Hidden City probably knows the lore: Eltom is a secret human village in the Canyon of the Lost that the villagers don’t know of. This village is also illegal, so the humans don’t want to be caught. No villager knows about this except for the mayor of Thesead, who’s already keeping this a secret.

But is that really the truth?



As you can see, there is very clearly a villager in Eltom. This is going against the lore, which states that Eltom is a human town that villagers don’t know about. Yet, there is clearly a villager in this town! Something is definitely up with the lore here. I propose two solutions to solve this inconsistency.

1. The villager identifier is aware this is a human town, but he’s already being paid enough money to keep it secret. After all, all of the other towns have identifiers and seeing how necessary they are to gameplay, identifying items could be a pretty good way to rake in some cash. This makes even more sense with the knowledge that the villagers are greedy.
   
   
2. He is a spy for Thesead or another villager town. More evidence would be the Curious Villager, who found the human statue. You have to deal with this in the first part of the quest so this could suggest that there are agents looking to discover the city. This doesn’t make as much sense as the mayor of Thesead wouldn’t allow for such an act on a town that she is trying to protect. It’s also unlikely any spies from Cinfras or Ahmsord would be able to navigate the Canyon of the Lost in order to find this city.

So here’s the real news: Eltom isn’t really 100% secret. More villagers are aware of Eltom than the lore suggests so is the city really secret?

Honestly, probably not. If you received as much money as item identifiers do you would do anything, including keeping a secret.

If you guys want to get a job, see if you can find an opening in the item identifiers. They’ll probably let you in and you’re gonna rake in tons and tons of cash.

Just remember that rigging identifications is illegal and will get you fired.

we don’t have the money to afford an identifier that is willing to become a human entity so this is the only option.

Identifiers aren’t actually people or villagers. They just are there.

its also built on top of a mountain, so i really wouldnt call it secret

 

I mean when I died in the Qira hive before doing the quest, I spawned in Eltom. So the quest doesn’t even do a good job in keeping it a secret either. Best fix for this and all other respawn problems is INNS (please guys I’ve been asking for this for so long and everyone complains about respawn bugs but nobody acknowledges my suggestion)
