Ironman requirement question

Hey, just wondering if its possible to unlock ironman any other way than having a level 50 character? My friend wants to start an ironman playthrough with me but doesn't want to have to grind a standard profile up to level 50 - They had a class I think around level 40 before but deleted their old profile because they didn't like that the bank transfers between characters and wanted to fully restart, but only got to level 20 or so. If there isn't another way than it is what it is, but still want to double check first. Thanks!

 

Well, since they've added character banks, you can make what is effectively an Ironman class, but with the ability to trade with other people by just not using the shared bank. Other than that, I don't believe that there's a way to make an ironman character without getting to level 50.
