Idea: The Minecraft Space Race!

Those who follow the head builder, @Grian , on YouTube will know that recently he and Team Wooloo recently made a new map:

This map uses redstone and a texture pack to allow you to build on The Moon! It also adds some new items, crafting recipes, and a mob. The best part, it's all Vanilla! No mods required.

Now then, onto the details of the idea at hand!
(Note: this is a set of possible GUIDELINES for a challenge like this, nothing is set in stone)

1. The idea:
-What if we could make a space race server challenge utilizing this map?

2. The set up:
-A server is set up and hosted
-Teams are created from/be community members (friends, guilds, and Wynn level groups can help this)(all teams should consist of the same number of people)
- (once teams are chose) Scoreboards are added to to create the teams/identify who is on which team, and later detect who the winner is.
-The server goes live to the players

3. The beginning:
-Each team has a set amount of real life time (say, one week) to find a location they like, and build a base.
-once a basic base is made, it's resource gathering time. This phase will last as long as needed, and the teams may decide whag to do/who does what in their own circle of people.

4. The challenge/end goal:
-The main goal is for an entire team to get to The Moon (ideally the scoreboards would announce the winning team once all members are defected to be up there)
- (optional) next is to create a fully functional, independent base on the moon
Note: once a team is up there, the challenge does not have to end, it can then be which of the next teams get up there, until everyone is up there, or people loose interest

Possible Problems:
-Someone would have to host a server that could stay up for who knows how long with how knows how many people popping on and off
-Basic rules would need to be established (unless people can trust each other that much)
-Cheating might be an issue (it appears the End is used as the Moon)
-People may loose interest
-Communication for the teams
-Players practicing before contest (thanks for pointing this one out @Oryx )

Conclusion:
This is simply an idea! I am NOT saying I will host this and am unsure if anyone will. If one wishes to host this challenge, feel free and change as much as you see needed. If you, the commenter, have any ideas to add onto this, comments, or criticism, please post, good of bad!

Interesting idea! If you get enough people to do this, I would certainly be interested in joining. By the way, I have a few solutions to some of the problems listed:

1. In a custom world, I believe you can do something that prevents Strongholds from spawning so people won't be able to get to the "Moon" by getting to a Stronghold.
2. If you go by the estimated week length, I doubt people will lose interest in it that quickly. Anything past a week and a half will be kind of iffy, though.
3. You can just create Team PM's on the forums.
4. I didn't quote this rule, but the basic rules thing might not be necessary. I bit of sabotage in this would be pretty fun/funny, to an extent. You'd have to put down some ground rules, but a few minor griefing here and there would make the competition more interesting!

Anyway, that's my opinion. Seriously, though. If this thing actually happens, make sure you tag me so I can apply or whatever.

Well, this is simply an idea involving the map. Notice I never mention any specific ways to get up there. If you wanted to make a slime block rocket to get up there, then go for it! The primary goal would be to get to the Moon, doesn't matter how. Heck, what you suggested could be an additional challenge that anyone who may host this may want to add!

Yeah, people could be professional speedrunners and they don't show it (because this is the wynncraft forums) and they can speedrun Minecraft to get good before the space race.

 

Not that im even bothering to participate, but why would somebody that knows how to make flying machines be disqualified instantly?

First of all, getting enough slime for even a simple one takes quite a while, you need redstone, and its just faster to tower up.

 

I would suggest phases that dictate the objective of the game. Each phas a team wins earns it one point.

Phase 1 (1st week): Establishment
The teams would all have to have a functional, above ground base. The team that has the most objectively useful base as well as best looking wins.

Phase 2 (2nd week): War
Open combat is allowed as well as moderate briefing of bases. The team with the most recorded kills wins.

Phase 3 (3rd and 4th week): Seperation
Each team is divided into two factions that war with eachother. During this time, it is acceptable to go to the moon. The first one there wins this phase.

Phase 4: Victory
During this phase, it is everyone against the winning quadrant. Open moon-combat is allowed and encouraged. Most recorded kills wins. 3rd phase winners gets a care package for each person.

If you can't tell, I am interested.

 

A very interesting way to add a bit more of a PVP focus to the whole thing! I like the idea of adding some different phases to everything. I know what I have done is basically your phase 1 and 3 without the whole faction bit for 3. I am also very glad that you are interested in the concept, and again, thank you for suggesting more events that could be added to this, I'm sure it would make it much more exciting, and I appreciate the idea very much!
