“Hey! Hop down. We’ve hit a boulder.”
I stepped down the cart and looked at the cart driver. The others followed. “Does that mean we’ll have to walk to Ragni from here?” I asked, to which the driver replied “You’re not far from Ragni anyways. It’ll take about 15 minutes to walk there. Here are some emeralds as compensation” while handing us 8 emeralds. We walked along the road. “So what do you guys know about Wynn?” asked one of my companions, whom I recognized as Tasim. “Not much,” I replied. “The only thing I know about Wynn is the war, and I don’t even know the war’s official name.” “What do you think Wynn will be like?” asked my other companion called Aledar and Tasim responded with “I don’t know. Just like Fruma, probably.” We walked and walked until we came across a soldier. He was wearing chainmail armour and was holding a spear. He has a slim build and a lot of hair around his mouth. “Stop! There’s some trouble ahead. If I were you, I’d look for some armour. Here, take these!” he shouted as he handed us three helmets. We followed down the road and arrived at a ravine with a bridge connecting the two sides. There is a sign in front of the bridge, which reads “The bridge requires heavy repair. Please do not use it.” “Well that sucks,” said Tasim. “Unless anyone here was a bridge repairman back in Fruma.” “Come to think of it I don’t remember anything about Fruma at all actually,” Aledar replied. “Did something happen to us on the cart?” While Aledar and Tasim were talking, I walked over to a tree with an axe lying around it. I picked the axe up and cut down the tree. The stem of the tree fell over and its tip landed on the other side of the ravine. “I think we can cross the ravine on this stem!” exclaimed Aledar. First, I stepped on the stem and held my hands to my sides for balance. I feared the stem would turn around and I fall into the ravine. I tried to not look down, but my curiosity overtook me and I looked down. It was dark, with a river in the lowest part. I looked up again, being more fearful than ever. One step, another step, another step, and just like that I crossed the ravine. I looked back and saw that Tasim started. He looked less scared, but he was also sweating. He crossed the ravine faster than me. Then, Aledar started. The moment he stepped on the stem he froze. We encouraged him, and, with a look of intense will, he ran across the stem. He was so fast we could only see a blur of him. “All those years studying the ways of the assassin finally paid off,” he said while panting. We continued on our journey to Ragni.
