How To Get Soft Sand?

    I'm working on the quest Green Gloop, and I have no idea how to get the Soft Sand. I tried the random blocks of sand in the desert--ended up almost dying because a bunch of skeletons pop out. I have no recollection of ever seeing these "pillars of sand" that Yodbon mentions.

    Those random sand blocks drop soft sand (or the mobs that spawn when you kill the sand blocks, not sure).

    Those piles drop anywhere from 0-5 Soft Sand and those mobs.
