How Exactly Does Plague Work?

I haven't gotten the chance to try it out yet, but the tooltip says: "Poisoned mobs also poison nearby mobs", but can an infected mob re transfer the poison back to the original host? Meaning, if there are at least 2 mobs in close proximity to one another, will the be poisoned until they die by passing the poison back and forth between each other?

 

I don’t think they can do that, since that would be game breakingly OP.

 

They actually do spread it back and forth if you time it right, but its strength is quartered each time

 

It'd be very powerful crowd-control, but only thing I can imagine it being able to be abusable in would be Orange Wybel
