How does poison work?

Hi all

I used to play with poison builds a while ago and everyone I ask nowadays tells me how bad it is. I just haven't been able to find a decent poison build or been able to create one since I don't know how the mechanics around it works. I would appreciate it if someone can sign-post me to another post that speaks about its inner workings or just give a brief explanation on how it works please. Thank you

 

Poison still works basically the same as it always has. When you hit an enemy, it deals 1/3 of the listed damage each second for three seconds. Hitting again resets the duration but doesn't stack damage. The reason people think it's bad right now is because it doesn't receive any buffs from stats. This means having strength and dexterity doesn't increase poison damage: what you see is what you get. This means that there is a fairly low maximum damage you can get, which cannot be buffed by any standard means. This causes it to scale poorly in endgame content where you will generally receive large bonuses to your damage, which is for most builds is already higher than a pure poison build would have. The absolute maximum poison damage you can have right now, barring crafteds, with perfect rolls and infinite skill points (according to wynnbuilder) is about 115k/3 seconds. or about 38k per second. This is pretty pitiful dps, and the actual maximum (the build required to get that 115k figure would be impossible to achieve by over 100 skill points) would be much, much lower. This just isn't really worth building around, since almost any endgame build can surpass that.

 

Isn't it good for pvp cuz toxo shaman?
