How Does Defenses Work

Please explain to me how elemental defenses work

but i'll still explain
if you have like 200 fire defence, and you hot hit for 300 fire damage, you'll only take 100 damage
same with all other elements
someone correct me if i'm wrong

from wut i hear its more complicated than just x-y
i think it reduces the raw damage of ur weapon first before spell/id multipliers
for example my 9k gales force bombs font do anything to qira
while my 2k eidolon melees could do ~1k ish
this is cuz gales force has lower base dmg (i don’t remember but 300ish max?) whereas eidolon’s base dng was like 600-700 or smth

 

that is if you are talking about the mobs defences
but i think he is talking about your own defences
