    5 times I tried... Not once have I gotten a black horse. Am I just unlucky or am I missing something? Do the horses need to be max level or something?

    You're just unlucky.

    I recommend buying horses from players rather than breeding them, it saves quite a bit of money.

    Actually it's better to breed horses up to Chestnut
