Since the introduction of Sorcery, there has been talk of Time Rift heavy melee (https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/258762/#post-3133002). In case you didn't know, Sorcery not only applies to spells, but to melee attacks as well!

I thought I'd give it a shot, and investigate whether or not it's worthwhile using Time Rift over a normal heavy melee build. I decided to make a build for Assassin (using Anvil Crawler), as Vanish + Quake is just so juicy.

    https://wynndata.tk/s/o1ljdn
At first glance, the dps is 8613 (not considering Vanish nor Quake), but what would be the dps taking Sorcery into account?

The Major ID states there's a 30% chance for attacks to be cast a second time, but this should be elaborated on a bit. There is a 70% chance for there to be no repetitions, and 30% for at least 1 repetition, seeing as attacks can repeat again after already having been repeated by Sorcery, and so on. Using this, the probability of n repetitions occurring is as follows:
    PMF.PNG

This equation can then be used to find how many repetitions will occur on average:
    expectation.PNG

The series above can be solved to yield E[N] = 3/7, or approximately 0.4286. Alternatively you could use the fact that P_N is pretty close to a geometric distribution and continue from there, but I'm not so good at that.
That is to say, on average, each melee hit will repeat 0.4286 times. As a result, the effective dps is found to be (1 + 3/7)*8613 = 12304. Now, let's compare this to a regular heavy melee build using Anvil Crawler!

The dps of this build is 12125 (note that you could go higher by sacrificing some life steal), meaning the Time Rift build actually has slightly higher dps.

Of course, that doesn't tell the whole story. The Time Rift build has lower life steal, hp and suffers from -hp regen. However, spells are considerably cheaper, and if it weren't for the poor mana sustain I'd be tempted to call this build true hybrid.

Concluding, I think it's a cool, possibly functional concept and I'd love to try it out sometime (once I have enough money) to see repeated Quakes.

    Thanks for reading!

If you notice any mistakes in the calculations, please let me know - probability therory is not my strong suit.

sad that it needs mythic to get the extra damage compared to the non-mythic alternative but at least it won't cost me as much in the long run to spam smoke bomb heavy melee

As someone who has actually tried Time Rift heavy melee before: It's not worth it. Main problem is that vanish sorcery is incredibly janky, and often takes you out of invisibility before you're prepared to attack, not to mention how it launches you at mobs while it does this. And because Anvil Crawler drops your walk speed, it ends up being way more difficult to escape dangerous situations. It's fun as hell getting off like four quakes at once, sure, but it's not that good.

I tried building a bit with Rewind too :)

The agility and walk speed are very nice for survivability. However, what I like about Time Rift here is how it forces you to go to 105 int, making spells more viable. Plus, with Rewind most of the mana sustain will be in the form of mana regen, which isn't as effective on Assassin imo due to Vanish.

Keep in mind sorcery can cause annoying vanish chains that might mess up peak melee vanish comboing

Definitely - of course I never expected to have every repetition hit perfectly due to various factors like that, so you will likely not see an increase in dps.
However, heavy melee on Assassin had become kind of monotonous for me. When I tried this, while messy, I found the added challenge to be quite fun :)
