Glaring Issue

You get more items when you kill mobs close to your level, right? So when you're level 5 killing level 5 zombies, you'll get lots of drops, but if you kill level 5 sombies at level 95, you won't get much at all. This seems ok, correct?

Wrong. Bob's Lost Soul requires a misc drop from a Level 1 zombie, and the depressing weapons with a level minimum of one, that only drop from low levek zombies. But, if you're level 45 and the item you need is level 1, you won't get the item from level 45 zombies, and level 1 zombies won't drop anything because you're too high level! So how are you supposed to the items for Bob's Lost Soul logically?

Before Gavel, item drops worked the same way but had a limit. You would always get drops according to the mob's level, just not many if you weren't near that level. But now, you get almost NOTHING! This is required for a quest, how on earth is this ok to leave in the game? Why is this not changed to work for the quest?

I came across this issue before. This is how I did it:

Go into Ragni on a busy server. Ask if anyone is selling bob's tear or depressing weapons. Who knows, some low level might have what you need.

 

Read here, and here and here. You are going to have to try farming for them in different places, in different ways, and you might even, oh no!, have to interact with new players. It doesn't seem idyllic anymore, does it? How much do you want to bet that the changes were made in order to change things up? WynnCraft has changed, dude, but you already knew that.

 

Or I can just make a new class and grind tons of depressing weapons cause a bunch of quests are broken anyways. Then sell them for way too much to make a profit cause everyone else can't get them on the class that needs them.

This is tough when you're insane and play all 10 character slots with no bank classes.

 

Actually, it works better when you use a high level character

I mean buying it from other low level players works best with a high level class

You know that you can just use a level 1 class to get them and bring the class to Detlas? It isn't like this is an impossible task...

 

Interesting. Never knew that your level and enemy level affected mob drops.

When I was doing this quest, I was level 91 (or was it 92 (yeah, probably 92)), actually, and spent 1-2 hours grinding for all the Depressing weapons, and ended up buying the final piece, the bow, from a low-level. Luckily, I already had Bob's Tears from before that I had saved to do the quest on all classes. :I

Nice to see that you now may have to actually interact with the newer community to achieve a goal, though.

I like the idea that it increases the chance for new players to interact with higher end players and make a bit of cash. Anything that makes the game feel less empty and more interactions happen keeps the game lively. With that said I'd love more dungeons and such, but that's for another thread on another day :)

I find the best way to get depressing weapons is to start a new level 1 class and just grind away.

In the old system, there was a heavy focus on Loot Bonuses, and you wanted a 0% Loot Bonus to access the Depressing Items at the bottom of the loot pool, and a high loot bonus for Bob's Tear.

This new system has changed things around. There's less emphasis on Loot Bonuses because your level acts as a natural Loot Bonus itself.

 

Yup this quest is a bitch! I usually end up buying the depressing weapons, although the tear dropped easily for me :p
