Build Floating Island (by Hand)

Not a huge fan of floating islands (but somehow a fan of steampunk), I saw this picture when of chrono trigger: http://imgur.com/vnFG9m1
and thought dam it's beautiful. So I wanted to make something of similar style.

I don't know how to use voxelsniper, and I wanted to practice creating shapes, so I built it by hands.
Here's what I been workin on (skip to end result if you aren't interested in the tedious work):

(I made those trees with worldedit and copied them onto the island, and I didn't feel good about them so I removed them afterwards)

Oh and I shall be adding theme/structures to the island, hopefully a steampunk castle of sorts. Give me all dem pics (not necessarily minecraft) of steampunks and I'll see what I come up with.

 

Ooh, I love the vibe it gives off, however I suggest expanding the island a great deal for more space for structure, builds, and atmosphere. (Oh, and just a suggestion, add a waterfall off the edge! It would make it look prettier!)

No legit, its really good. I myself am a huge fan of steampunk, but even more so floating stuff. I love sky islands and airships, so seeing this is really nice.

One thing I might suggest, if you want, is to make a small floating town. Then give it a dock and try with airships!

Can't expand the island since it's all finished up DX but I will certain add more neighbor islands. you see those wires beside the island? Those are it :D
And great call on the waterfall, because I actually did add a water fall afterwards which I forgot to post the picture of:

The terrain is cool man, more colors for the palette and it's perfect.
For the trees, you have to improve yourself, because the form is not so good.
There are a lot of ways to improve this island, I will wait for updates ;)

 

Yea I'm still practicing building trees, those are horrible DX.
What do you think would be a nice material for the palette? I'm experimenting with different ones.

 

You have to choose a color, If I choose brown, I will use a palette with the brown blocks and I must consider only the brown shades.
