There probably are some decent alternatives, but I can't think of anything else that provides damage, the Int needed to reach 94, and extra mana regen.

 

Keep in mind, Chain Lightening + negative Life steal will make you lose health, if that werent a thing that build would be great though but since it is it will make you lose a shitload of health. That's why in this case curse would be way better, courage is easier because you don't have to be directly next to the enemy or very close but does 60% less of a damage boost. Anyway point is DON'T go with Chain Lightening if you got negative life steal, it will mess you up.

 

Keep in mind that fatal is very fast, meaning it is much harder to proc mana/life steal in the first place (only a 8.1% chance). They don't have to even melee with this build if they don't want to, nor do they have to use chain lightning even if it's ready. As far as I'm aware, chain lightning doesn't guaranteed proc your life/mana steal either (though I may be wrong). The main point of powdering it thunder was to boost the thunder damage significantly without the use of powders (if you were to powder it with water powders you would get ~1k less meteor damage unless curse is active).

You could use third eye if you wanted more mana sustain (12/4s mr and 100 intel), but it lowers your meteor damage by about 1k.
