CHAPTER ONE
The Pirates

'Pirate!' The captain of the cargo ship, Czytash, shouted from the dock. Czytash was a villager. But then, almost all of them were.
Marvin, the only human on board, rushed to the side of the boat with Tirt, the captain's son.
They were on their way to the town of Nemract, and they were travelling near the Mage Islands.
'What's happening, Tirt?' Marvin asked.
Tirt swore. 'There's a pirate ship, alright. But I know that guy on board their ship. His name's Phief, and he used to work for us.'
'What does he want?' Marvin asked. He now saw the ship: slightly smaller than the cargo ship, it had about ten people on deck. The cargo ship had about thirty people, including Marvin. The problem was, everyone except Phief was human, armed with weapons. No one except him was armed on the cargo ship.
Bloody mercenaries. Marvin thought.
Phief shouted from his ship. 'Ya losers! We are armed, and we will kill you if you try to fight us!'
'That fumbleknucke...' Tirt swore next to Marvin.
'What do you want?' Czytash asked Phief. But there was a note of fear in his voice.
'Your cargo, of course!' Phief grinned. 'What else? We will board your ship, you will surrender, or we WILL kill you.'
None of the villagers objected as Phief and his gang boarded their ship. Marvin's hand silently slipped to his dagger in his sheath.
Phief saw Marvin. 'Get him.' He called to his mercenaries. There were nine of them.
Marvin drew his dagger, and cast a Vanish Spell. He went invisible, and the mercenaries suddenly started look around.
One mercenary, obviously a Warrior, used a Bash Spell. It hit Marvin, and he fell to the ground. The mercenaries surrounded him.
What they didn't know, was that Marvin was half-elf. This meant that he had the physical ability of the elves. Marvin jumped high - height no man or villager could jump - and kicked the Warrior mercenary. The Warrior yelped, and fell over the deck into the water. Marvin cast a Spin Attack spell, which made three of the fall back. One mercenary, who was hooded in black cape, cast a Smoke Bomb spell. He was an Assassin, like Marvin.
Marvin choked in the smoke. The spell prevented him from moving. The mercenaries caught him. Marvin struggled with his enhanced strength, but there were too many of them.
Phief laughed. 'Kill him.' He told the mercenaries. Tirt yelped, but was kicked by one of the humans.
The mercenaries tied Marvin to a heavy cargo. Phief walked up to Marvin's face. Marvin spat at him. Phief grinned.
'Have fun drowning, human.' He said, then kicked Marvin. The metcenaries lifted him up, then threw him into the sea.
Bubble floated around him. Marvin was underwater.
But then, he smiled. He had his water breathing helmet, which he bought from a sailor in the Coastal Trail.
Phief was stupid. He had not checked Marvin for any weapons. Marvin squirmed, and managed to grab the hilt of his dagger in its sheath. After a few minutes, Marvin managed to cut the ropes around him.
Marvin felt the magic of his helmet losing its oxygen. Marvin swam upwards as hard as he could.
Marvin resurfaced to the water. Under the sea, he had moved away from the two ships. The crew of the cargo ship was sailing away to Selchar in life boats. He sighed. He was too late.
Just then, Marvin heard a muffled explosion. There was a large wave, coming from underwater.
He looked at the ships. There was nothing he could do, they were already sailing away.
Then he dived into the water.
