Mage/Dark Wizard Help Exploding/poison Melee Mage?

The XP Bonus & Mana Regen gear I've been using to speedrun quests and level up quicker is rapidly making me dead weight in parties now that my friends are starting to run the big boy stuff (EO, LI, etc…).

I hate Meteor which is why I'd rather fight melee than with spells, but I still do love the other mage spells too much to just switch to warrior. I'm looking for a Poison & Exploding build (that preferably doesn't drain my mana and hp every few seconds) so that it doesn't take me multiple meteors just to take down one minion, when people are out there obliterating bosses in two minutes.

I heard the Item team has been going ham with changing everything, so most of my knowledge from early Gavel is completely outdated and irrelevant now, so I'm hoping someone with a fresher perspective can help me out. :D
