I recently got into Don’t Starve Together because a friend gifted it to me. Its very difficult, does anyone have some tips for brand new players like me?

Hey, I got that game semi-recently!
Avoid swamps (purple terrain) until you have plenty of equipment or a need for papyrus.
An Alchemy Engine does everything a Science Machine does and more, once you craft one you can smash the Science Machine with a hammer.
Uprooting Saplings works well, but don't try to transport grass or berries unless you have rot/fertilizer of some sort.
Winter starts on... day 20, I believe. Getting a thermal stone and heating up between two fire pits can keep you warm for a long time.
Sleeping is a good way to restore sanity, assuming you have a bit of food to spare.
Don't try Wes. He's meant as a challenge for very experienced players, a group that does not contain me.
Dusk (red clock sections) still drain sanity, but definitely don't need a campfire.
Trees get very annoying after day 3/4. I try to cut as few as possible after the first few days, simply because I don't have the experience to handle the threats they can awaken.
Kiting is VERY strong - the tactic where you hit an enemy a certain number of times, back out of attack range as they hit, and then run back in to repeat. It doesn't work well against groups, though, so armor is still very important for hounds or spiders.
I believe bees are neutral until spring UNLESS they are the red killer bees. I haven't reached spring yet though because my furthest run was demolished in midwinter - probably sounds pathetic but the game is hard, ok?
Cooked food spoils faster but is much more nutritious.
Health is rather difficult to regain, but eating will recover it in time.
You can take out most fast animals by running them into a corner of a landmass, but it's not really useful for anything except gobblers, which can be rather annoying otherwise.
Pig houses do give good stuff, but it might be better to just let the house stay and let the pig respawn. Pig heads, however...
Touch stones let you respawn, at the cost of severe initial (not maximum) stat penalties. Other sources of respawns do usually have max stat penalties.
If you can't find gold, you can trade meat to the Pig King, if you can find them.
It can get a bit complex - it is a time management game, after all. The important thing is getting your priorities clear and making your base in a central location.
My favorite character so far is Webber. What's yours?

also, use a torch instead of a campfire to survive the first nights. exploring is usually more important than cooking food

Wow! Thank you, I haven’t had a lot of time yet to play so I haven’t experimented with the characters. This will be very helpful!

Heya! I'm a bit rusty but, here's some tips I've learnt from 300ish hours of DST:
    • Try to spend the first few days exploring the map, then decide where to setup your base
    • Thermal stones are really important, not just for winter, but for summer as well.
    • Thermal stones only lose durability when they go back to their normal state (eg: Hot (Orange) -> Gray(Neutral))
    • Try to quickly go into the caves an pick those lightbulb plants, they're useful for making lanterns (placeable light sources)
    • The caves are a great source of rocks and other materials (Also it has a bunch of endgame areas; No spoilers tho!)
    • Each character has a favorite food, if the character eats it, they get more stats
    • Finding a MacTusk igloo in autumn is kind of important, since MacTusk drops A Tam 'O Shanter (Hat that provides sanity + insulation) and a walrus tusk (Material for the walking cane (boots movement speed while held, useful for kiting))
    • Seasons have different bosses:
      • Deerclops (Winter): Easy if you can manage temperature and kiting
        • Drops Deerclops Eye (Used to craft the Eyebrella, which gives a 100% resistance to wetness)
      • Moose-Goose (Spring): After a few swings, will throw your held item away
        • Drops a few Down Feathers (Notably used for Weather Pain (Weapon that shoots mini tornadoes) and the Luxury Fan (Cools down players & structures, preventing overheating/smoldering respectively))
      • Bearger (2nd Autumn):
        • Starts off neutral, wandering around and eating food; It'll become aggressive if you approach it or take it's food.
        • Try to lure it away from your main base, it's AoE attacks destroy structures and disarm you
        • It charges after you if you dodge its attacks
I haven't played in a while, so if any of this isnt accurate, please correct me!
