Does Wynncraft Only Use Impulse Command Blocks?

I recently saw Tommyinit's behind the scene video of wynncraft, and when he was looking at the AI computer puzzle they went under to look at the command blocks, and I only saw Impulse command blocks.

Does the server not use other types, or is this because the puzzle is older?

I'm interested in applying for command blocker and was trying to figure out what the guidelines for command block creations are.

 

Wynncraft still runs on 1.8 so the CMDs can only use 1.8 commands and command blocks.
