Ok I just finished all of the secret discoveries in the desert and got to see the cutscene where Hashr kills the emperor and unleashes a curse onto the land sending everything below the sand. This scene confused me because it seems to contradict the actual dungeon.

In the Sand-Swept Tomb dungeon, you hear Hashr talk about how he once ruled this land to pride and prosperity until a betrayal from his own kind sealed his fate.

Why would Hashr talk about ruling the land to pride and prosperity if he never got to rule it? The desert secret discovery shows the empire fall into ruin as soon as he kills the ruler, meaning he would have never gotten a chance to rule. Also wasn't Hashr the one who betrayed his own kind by killing his father? Maybe I'm missing something painfully obvious, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

After checking the wiki, it does seem that Hashr killed the emperor, then became emperor, then hid the sceptre in sand-swept tomb, then his soul was trapped there forever or whatever.
This means that yes, what Hashr says in the dungeon is wrong.
    Clearly this must be fixed.

This is indeed an interesting question that I've been wondering, and I don't have a straight up answer for it. In Totem Pole, we see that the sandstorm lasted for weeks, and no one could exit their shelter as it raged. At the same time, Temple of Swords states "After realizing its true power, Hashr realized that he must hide the sceptre where no one can find it." My first thought for this is that maybe the storm wasn't so bad right as it started, but that's not true. In Desert Royal Residence, the entire doorway is instantly filled by sand. Seeing as the Temple of Swords is also above the current sand, I can see Hashr, along with some others, surviving the storm and continuing the Empire's lifetime for some time. Where? I don't know. There are not many ruins on top of the current sand, but they could have been taken down by humans coming from the west, and we do still see some ruins above the sand.

Thanks! This clarified a lot. I guess my only question left is what does the "betrayal of my own kind" reference when Hashr says it? We know that Hashr betrayed his father, but who was the one who betrayed him?
