Dern Does Not Fit On The Map?

Hey! So, as you may know, we're getting the 1.19 Update: Road to Dern, therefore, a new area on the map; nonetheless, Salted has pointed out that such area is, essentially, as the name explicitly says, a "path" to Dern, and that it's technically over Wynnic control and that Dern itself is not located there, and this is where the problem starts.
During Wynncraft's history players were always hyped to see the map itself expand, and so it did. We had the "Ocean Update", the "Gavel Update", the "Corkus Update" and now the "Road to Dern" update. Soon players started to notice that the map is square-ish, and now we can confirm that with this upcoming update and for the fact that Fruma's entrance leads to a big gap under Wynn.

Have said that we can assume that the map was and is meant to be square-ish, however, when you apply what Salted has stated, it does not sum up: how can the world be "perfectly" square-ish while a big piece of its story is not there?

In regards to that, I can provide you with two possibilities.
The first one is somewhat very optimistic and theorizes that Dern will be an entirely separate section of Wynncraft, which I find the most probable, for the fact it's an alternate realm in which you should be able to access through the portal seem at the end of the trailer.

The second one is that we're not actually ever having a Dern update, which means it'd just stay as a myth passed through tales told by the characters (NPCs) and players themselves. That is another possibility I find very improbable.

Although I've only spoken about two possibilities, I'd like to state there's a bonus third one, which is:
the Wynncraft world map is not perfectly squared as we thought and we're getting a huge Dern area someday.

TL;DR: If all pieces of evidence point to the fact that Wynncraft's world map is perfectly squared, how can that be if actual Dern is still not added?

 

I'm guessing it will simply be added off the main map, very similar to that of the Realm of Light (which Dern is it's direct counterpart).

 

Excuse me if I'm not understanding properly, but can't Dern just be a rectangle to maintain the map's shape? Or are you saying that Dern is not located adjacent to any part of the known map?

 

If it were a rectangle it would either be huge or very thin

Dern is a realm, therefore it is expected to be an entirely different area, just like light realm is and Silent Expanse does have a portal to dern as said above.
I'm assuming that the map of our world would be finished after fruma, after that we'll start expanding to other realms such as like dern or light realm.

 

We know for sure that the Corkus update was not planned from the start, it just started out as a meme and eventually the content team started making Corkus related stuff which just... kinda... exploded into being cannon. Corkus was not planned from the beginning. It started out similar to what Bloomi has been for a while.

This means that the entire map has not been planned from the beginning.

I think the map turned out to be kinda square since it's a shape where you don't have to travel alot between any two points and a circle doesn't make it easy to add new pieces of land to the map. A square is also easier for coordinate related purposes and therefore easier to comprehend for the player than a circle. So from a game design standpoint a square is a good shape.

I don't think Dern will be very similar to RoL. Not current RoL at least.

CT keeps on saying that we should treat Dern as a province right? That means it will be pretty large. Would be weird if it didn't get its own section on the official map then right? So I'm guessing Dern will be situated somewhere probably next to Silent Expanse to make it easier for people to view Dern's map.

And then there's the thing that Realm of Light is supposed to be the counterpart of Dern. Could this mean a revamp of the entire realm of light questline, and a bigger Realm of Light with more quests etc? Because to be fair, if Dern is going to be province-sized, I'm not surprised at all that Light is losing the war with the realm that they currently have.

 

I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but I've always assumed that the Nether Portal was an exact midpoint between the two realms. But that would mean that Dern would have to be… very far away from Wynn, considering that an entire ocean separates Wynn and Gavel.

It's possible that the Silent Expanse does not actually encompass the whole of RtD; it may just be a part of it, leading to further RtD content in the future. This would fill in the gap between Wynn and Dern's apparent location (if what I proposed above is true). It would also justify the introduction of a new region name; I find it intriguing that they didn't just name this update RtD.

 

A Realm Of Light revamp has been a thing talked about for an extremely long time, as well as Gavel in general, because it is incomplete. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it.

 

It wouldn't make sense to make Dern a rectangle that stretches all the way to the other side of the map because, first of all, Dern wouldn't be connected to any other "biomes"/lands. Second, making a new province completely rectangled and long is just weird. (Yes, I know Gavel is a rectangle, but it's very big and Dern isn't gonna big that big, so it has to be thin which is just gonna feel weird while playing)

 

This right here is exactly what's going to happen, you even pointed it out as being most likely, so I don't even see the point of there being an entire thread about this subject.

 

Again, Dern is a realm, so do you know light realm? its a portal in gavel that takes you to another world, yeah dern is the same and the portal is in silent expanse.

Edit: Well even though the devs said it should be treated as a province, cannon wise it's a realm.

 

Food for thought:
The map was created to make it easier for people to navigate throuh wynn. Anything the size of the wynn province or the gavel province would be nice to have a map for to know where to go. Therefore it'd be nice to have a map of dern if it should be treated as a province.
It's inconvenient to have these maps in different places.

My personal solution to this problem would be to have little tabs on the map where we can get the maps of the different realms. Another option could be a link to the maps of the realms you're going to at the place the way to the realm (like the portal in the realm of light) on the main map.
