Crash-course Mage Class?

I am level 37 and i dont understand most of what people do with mage,like i see some people using 2 staff/wand and i dont know why. I posted something similar on reddit and got some answers, but none really helped me, so im wondering about what mage can do? I guess take it as a crash-course for Mages?

 

There are various reasons someone might use two weapons. The most common would be using one of them as a walkspeed or mana regen secondary - Bonder is a common choice for the second, since it has no requirements and gives +5/4s mana regen (likewise, practically every endgame Assassin will carry a Slider as a secondary for walkspeed). Sometimes it may be useful to use two (or even three) weapons to cover different elements - one of my endgame builds primarily uses a Gale's Force (Air) and a Cluster (powdered for Thunder), and occasionally a Torrential Tide (Water) when I'm fighting a boss with a large water weakness. It's also possible to use a secondary with a different powder special specifically for its effects, particularly if that secondary has a slower attack speed (which makes using powder specials rather easier). For example, you could apply Curse or Courage with a secondary and then start spamming spells with your primary for a ton of damage, or use a secondary for lifesteal with Quake or Chain Lightning. (it's unlikely that you know much about powder specials at this point in the game, if you want to know the full details of powders I wrote a guide).

Mage has the lowest average dps of the four classes, but makes up for it with access to Heal and lower base mana costs than the other classes. Heal is self-explanatory. Ice Snake is a good utility spell since it freezes mobs and also does some damage, essentially shutting down every melee mob aside from their spells. Meteor is the main damage spell, and since it has a higher multiplier, raw spell damage boost (as opposed to percent spell damage boost) is relatively strong on Mage. Teleport is a good movement spell, particularly in endgame if you have a lot of intelligence and mana regen (hence Infinite Teleport Mage) - it's usually considered second only to Escape (Archer's movement spell).

There's a lot to cover, but Mage is the class I'm least familiar with so others can handle anything further. Specific questions would definitely help though.

As for the specific question should i craft the wand with the element i want or should i use a wand i picked up from any type of mobs as i have a lot of those

 

General answer - crafting can be very good if you're willing to put a lot of time grinding professions and finding good ingredients, otherwise just go with identifiables. I use crafted items to fill gaps in endgame and midgame builds, but that's about it.

 

Sorry to trouble you again, but where can i find the best powder for a level 38 like me?
I seen some in dungeon but is there any other places?

 

Just throw together a lootrun with T3/T4 chests around your level. Do it about a dozen times and you'll have plenty of stuff.
