Confused About Lifesteal. Is It Worth Going For?

So, I haven't really looked into lifesteal that much on my previous character, since it was mage with his healing spell, but now when I play as assassin, I realised how useful healing really is for me.
It's kind of a glass cannon, I get basically 1/4th of my health taken by any hit, and I would really need some way to regen that back, so I found that lifesteal thing.

After wearing armor piece that, alegedly, has lifesteal on, and having weapon with ingedient with lifesteal, I don't really feel like I'm gaining any health back, no matter how hard I try.

Just to be clear, I'm around level 24, the armor piece I'm refering to is Black Mask, and the ingredient is Drained Bone.

If anyone could explain it for me, and maybe give me some advice about that, I would I be more than grateful.

The slower your weapon the more likely life steal is to activate. Each weapon speed has a different percentage chance of activation leading to it activating ever 4 seconds with constant attacking.

 

at low levels life steal might not be as noticable, like mana regen, it gets stronger as you go

Life steal is great, especially for assassin. Do keep in mind that life steal only procs on melee hits, so if you don't melee it will be useless.
The reason you're not noticing your life steal is probably because black mask gives 8 life steal, and drained bone at max 4 life steal. This means that it'd only regen up to 12 health each time it procs.
The reason life steal gets better later is because you get acces to items with more life steal, not because life steal scales with level or something.

The first 'good' life steal item would probably be Obulus, which can get up to 49 life steal at lvl 25. (about 4 to 5x as much as black mask + drained bone. But with a low roll it can also only give 11 life steal.)

Slower attack speed also effects mana steal chances, thought you might want to know that.



Also, for the tags. These barely matter but are useful for people who search for threads about a specific topic. Someone looking for all threads about 'life steal' might find this useful, someone looking for all threads about 'question', 'new', or 'advice' would be weird but whatever. Realistically it does not matter and nobody cares. (Though I have seen people put some in their tags, that's also a use.)

 

life steal is actually surprisingly noticeable earlygame from my experiences. Styx's Grab is a good life/mana steal weapon with pretty good damage for Assassin at 29.

 

One thing to remember is life steal only activates on melee hits, not spells.

After playing for some time now (I'm around lvl35) I mainly use what Almuji has in store, the dagger called Scalper with some high level powder, Marrow-Tainted Necklace, Dead Sands Pants, two Spider Rings (I don't really know if they stack or not) and WOW, it really does make a difference now. Back then I couldn't regen any health at all. But now, I regen almost half of my health with just few hits.
I can't really find any good helmet I could swtich for the Black Mask though. But I will surely check out that chestplate you were talking about, I think that I will stick to Black Tunic tho, because of the dexterity boost it gives.

Also, about the tags, I'm kind of used from reddit and their really strict rule of using them. Hence I'm kind of catious about them when I post anything to any forums.
