    Prologue

    HellFire

I woke up, sweat dripping down my face. My house felt like it was on fire and the air was scorching at hundred degrees. Outside my house, fire, lava, meteors, and dragons were flying overhead. A hole that looked like it was just melted down lead all the way to the Nether. Spewing out of the hole, was an entire army of bow wielding skeletons, undead zombies with swords and knight armor, the kind that would make a god jealous. Above the hole was a tornado-like cloud with dark red and black clouds swirling around it and purple lightning flashing down. Faces in the clouds looked down upon the land, laughing and cackling into thunder and lightning.

The hordes of undead and dragons, some of which had dead flesh hanging off of bones, hearts and organs showing, and the intestines hanging off the bones, were all marching or following a titan like man.

He had armor that shimmered red, black, and gold. His head and face was a human skull, but at the same time it had a dragon horn and misshapen eyes. It had a staff that looked like it had two snakes curled up around and went up the shaft. At the top of the staff, it had two wings and a flame between them His skin, which was that of a zombie, was decaying and falling off his bones. His heart and brain showed outside of his body and his eyes were flames. There were bony wings that sprouted from his back, spreading to be at least fifteen feet wide at full length. His fiery eyes looked directly at me and he pointed his bony and fleshy hand at me. Just as he did, a dragon landed outside my window and he looked right at me, I was completely frightened.

    “RRRRROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!”

The dragon screeched, shattering the window. The roof above me started crumbling and lifting up. After the roof was gone, I was lifted up just like the roof. Above me, there was a cloud of complete blackness, it was as if I was being sucked into a black hole. As I was swallowed deeper and deeper into the void of blackness, I heard a voice like as if it was judgement day. I heard the boom of a voice, it was the voice of one of the many gods of Wynn. His voice boomed, yelling the words,

“THE END IS NEAR! PREPARE FOR WAR!”

I woke up in a pool of sweat, in my bed with nothing different, but over where the hell hole was seen in my nightmare, there was a mining team mining there. They said that there were signs of energy coming from beneath the layers of rock and soil, that it was… dark energy. “Gods know what they will find down there” some people said, but I know what it is… and I’m no god.

    Chapter 1

    }-{The Vision}-{

I got up and out of my bed, stretched, and yawned. “The nightmare I just had… why did I have it? I just don’t understand.” I thought to myself.

I walked downstairs and spent the whole time just questioning what the vision was… and why it was only to me… I made myself something to eat and went outside. I walked for a while before reaching a small little village near the town of Elkurn and near the snowy forest that surrounds Nesaak. I walked over toward the mining site where my father was the supervisor. I ran up to my father when I saw him and gave him a big hug.

“Hey dad! So, how’s the mining going?” I said, simultaneously hugging him.

“Great! We found something big! Want to see it before the kings of Ragni and Troms arrive?” He responded, happy to see me.

    “Sure!” I replied enthusiastically.

My father took me with him deep into the mining site until we reached a gigantic opening. In front of us, was a gigantic frame of obsidian, like a portal of some sort.

“W-what is that?!” I questioned, cautiously, and worriedly.

“I-it’s… a… Nether portal.” my father replied seriously.

“A what?!” I snapped back and worried slightly.

“It’s a portal that can take us to the depths of the Nether itself. There's supposed to be some sort of monster guarding it… That’s why we are calling for the kings and their armies to help us.” he replied as serious as before.

I looked at the ominous frame and notice words on the obsidian. I realized the languages it was in… it’s a combination of Draconic and the language by the ancient Wynn province natives. I tried to decipher the words, but I couldn't. I only understood one word, "fire".

I walked closer to the frame and I touch it with my hand. As I did, I experienced a flash which led to a vision. I saw a giant planet and around it was a small rocky sphere, the planet was ours, the planet that owns all the land and sea that we see. But… the giant planet was different. Instead of being colorful and beautiful, it looked black, fiery, and hellish. I looked closer, and saw the hellish hole in the ground again, the same hole I saw in my nightmare. I looked at it for just a little longer, then it disappeared. I was back in the mining site, and then… the inside of the frame lit on fire. The fire then transformed into purple swirls which filled up the portal frame. Suddenly, a shockwave of energy blasted through the area. The surge of energy pushed and launched me backwards and until I landed next to my father.

Then the surroundings started changing. Stone and gravel turned into obsidian and some sort of hellish rock. The path to the portal transformed into a hellish brick bridge. Parts of the sides of the bridge started to crumble into a pool of lava below. The entire area turned into a gate to hell, or in this case, a gate to the Nether.

“Wh-what IS that?!” I yelled, frightened.

“It is the portal to the Nether… I never knew this was even possible…” My father said frightened as well, not answering my question.

“Something’s coming!” I yelled as a shape appeared in the portal.

Through the portal I saw a giant monster. It looked like a combination of a dragon, lion, and gigantic snake. I saw another one go to the first one’s right. In between them was a wraith like spirit holding a staff. It’s eyes were red and it had black robes with many tears of different sizes in it. All three of them walked through the portal and the wraith started to speak in a language I knew slightly, but not well enough to know what it’s saying, Draconic.

“Finally! Stin ahst laat! Nu Zu'u vis gon dii lokluv do maar, ahrk nimun fen kos vos wah vuth zey! Pah Zu'u praag los vahjiik kopraan, wah gon!” It said, and pointed at me “Zu'u lorot daar joor fent dreh nunon flogah!”

It flung directly at me. As its ghostly body passed right into me, I felt a chill go all through my body. The sight of my father running over to me, frightened, was the last thing I saw before I blacked out.

    Chapter 2

    What have I become...

I slowly came back into consciousness. When I came back fully, I was no longer in my body. I was in the body of that undead monster thing that sent the dragon at me in that nightmare. But… how? I sat up and I looked at myself. A bony, fleshy, dragon horned, winged, zombie/skeleton-like monster. I stood up and I felt a huge pulse of energy hit me. My hand started to quiver with energy and when I thrust it upwards, a flash of black energy launched out. The cloud that was over the hole in my nightmare appeared, then a voice came into my head… It sounded sinister and evil…

“Yes… YES! The power I feel in this new body. This feels amazing! Let's take this on a test drive!” The voice spoke.

Just then, I felt the wings on my back began flapping. I noticed a staff in my hand, the same staff that was in my nightmare… could I be dreaming again? No… this felt too real to be a dream.

“Wait… who are you?” I replied.

“Oh, I think you know exactly who I am!” The voice replied, the tone sounding more sinister than it already was.

“Wh-what?! Who are you? I don’t know you!” I declared concernedly.

“Oh you fool, how can you be so ignorant as to not know who I am? I am Zephilith!” He laughed darkly.

My mind went numb. I knew who he was… somehow. Then I realized, one day…

I was 15 years old, my dad and I went to an island across the ocean, the Gavel side of the ocean.

“Dad, what’s in there?” I asked, pointing into a giant cave entrance about times three my size.

“I don’t know… I don’t really think it’s safe though. We should stay away.” He told me.

“Ok…” I replied sadly. I really wanted to go and explore it, find out what was down there… Then later on when my father was distracted with the natives of the island, I slipped away, down into the deep depths of the cave.

“Whoa. This place is cool!” I said, nearly speechless at how big the cave is.

I kept descending down, deeper and deeper into the cave, until I saw some sort of shrine made of a dark red brick and some sort of glass. I looked around the shrine and saw gigantic shadowy monsters. They stared at me… but they didn't attack. I walked closer to the shrine and saw a black and purple egg on the inside. As I walked closer I noticed that the shadowy monsters still weren't attacking me. Even when I got up to the shrine the shadowy monsters just continued to stare at me. They looked positively toward me and it seemed they didn't mind me getting near the egg, even though they appeared to be the guardians of the egg.

“What are you?” I said to one of the shadowy creatures. I look into one’s eyes but it just stared at me. It didn't do anything to me, not even when I touched the glass. Then all of a sudden, my dad came running inside.

“Hey, get over here! Those things are dangerous!” My dad yelled at me.

“What? No they aren't, they’re friendly!” I said. But when I looked at them, they looked at my dad and the others that followed him into the cave and became angry and aggravated. “O-or n-not…” I said out slowly.

“Get away from him!” My dad yelled at the monsters, but as he did, they all began to protect me from him.

Suddenly, the monsters stopped… As they did, the egg started to shake and a shadow emerged from it. It looked almost like the creature I have become, thing is, it looked alive. I watched as it grew to the size it was in real time. It started to speak, its loud voice booming through the cave.

“I AM ZEPHILITH! YOU MORTAL HAVE RELEASED ME! NOW I AM ABLE TO RECREATE MY DRAGON ARMY!” His voice boomed.

    10 years after

    The Present

“I...I remember you… but… why me? Why have all of these things happened to me?” I asked.

“Because, you ARE me, you ARE Zephilith!” He exclaimed.

“But… how? That’s not even my na-”

“Yes, I know that’s what your father wanted you to think. He named you some normal name, thinking he could hide you from your TRUE identity.” He replied, cutting me off

“Ok then, if I’m Zephilith, and if you're Zephilith, then who was I before you?” I questioned, getting very confused.

“You were nothing but an empty shell, a thing that was being controlled by an outside source! You were never without me, even inside that prison that egg made how many years ago. I controlled you, and I still control you today!” He declared.

I lost all control of my body as I realized he was another mind inside my own. He then told me one last thing.

“Yes, yes, all those times in your life, all of those, were my doing. I took control of you, and I made all of these things happen… so, lets have a little bit of fun shall we?”

Then I got up uncontrollably and I started getting out of the hole I was in. As I was going out, dragons, and undead monsters started coming out of the portal as well as those two monsters that came out with the wraith. Now that they knew I was Zephilith, they were all climbing out with me. As my new body made it out of the hole, the light of the moon was shrouded and blocked out by the black tornado-like cloud that hovered over the hole. I started to laugh maniacally, not wanting to, but I did. Zephilith wanted chaos, while I just wanted my dad.

    Chapter 3

    The Crystal of Chaos

“The Crystal of Chaos is all I need to come back to full power!” Zephilith said wickedly.

“What do you mean? What’s a ‘Crystal of Chaos’?” I asked, very confused.

We were there, flying above the destruction of the land, bringing back the terrible memories of the nightmare I had in the previous night. I look around, all the land I lived near and people that lived in my home village were now corrupted. As I looked around a little more, and I heard Zephilith finally answer my question.

“It is the crystal that stores all of my power!” He laughed, as if I should know this.

“What do you mean? How does it store your power?” I asked curiously.

“It stores my power, because I am the god of Chaos! Which means YOU are the god of chaos, the god of Chaos has two personalities, good and bad, that is why you are part of me!” He explained.

“N-No… I-I’m a mortal! I was born in a mortal family! How can I be a god?” I questioned, worried at what I had gotten myself into by visiting my father in the mine.

“How many lies did they tell you boy?” He said to himself. “You are a part of me, how many times do I have to tell you that?!” He announced.

“Plus, why is there a god of chaos? I thought there were only good and evil gods.” I said, confused.

“Oh good lord, how many lies did they tell you?!” He yelled. “Those gods are no more than disciples of the gods of Balance and Chaos! Mortals always assume Chaos and Balance are under good and evil! But in order to have evil, you need Chaos, and in order to have good, you need Balance!” He proclaimed.

“I thought in order to have Balance you need good AND evil.” I replied.

“That’s what everyone wants you to think, but in truth, in order to have Chaos you need evil, and in order to have Balance, you need good!” He exclaimed once more.

I sat there, just wondering how it made sense, but I decided not to argue, at least not now. We flew across a snowy forest and into a snowy canyon. In the canyon, there was a very tall tower which had spikes at the top which pointed at a huge crystal. We flew inside the tower, landed, and walked inside, and started talking to the man that was standing there.

“I would like to speak with… him.” said Zephilith.

“Who are you? I must know this before I let you in.” The man responded, almost calmly, but with a creepy and sinister tone.

“I think you know who I am, and why I’m here.” Zephilith said as he pulled out something, showed it to the man, then put it away.

“Oh, I know who you are, I just needed you to tell me. Also, tell me exactly why you need what you’re looking for and why I sense a mortal’s presence and.” The man responded, his voice starting to sound familiar.

Zephilith sighed. “The reason you sense a mortal, is because half of me is mortal right now. If I get what I want, then I will be a full god, you know this as much as I do. Also, you know that my name is Zephilith, and you shall only call me that and not call me by my… other name. You know exactly what I am looking for, and if I don’t get access now, I will blast you into pieces. Now, let me in.” Zephilith said in a cold, stern and serious voice.

“Fine, here, take this.” He said as he handed us a key. He pointed behind him, and he said, “Just go there, use the key to get to the top floor. He will be waiting for you, don’t keep him waiting.” Then he vanished, but I still felt like I was being watched.

We walked to where he pointed and were transported to the top, as we did the key vanished. We walked into an open area which was very dark, and quiet... Above us was the giant crystal, along with a view of the sky. Across the room, we spotted a man/skeleton type thing with bony hands, one of which grasped a giant scythe that seemed so sharp as to being able to rip through time and space. He pointed it at us and said, “Why have you come here?”

“We have come here for the crystal! You know very well which one I’m talking about!” Zephilith roared while I just sat there, listening, watching, and more confused than ever before.

“Hahaha, you think I will just hand it to you? Or what? What will you do if I don’t? You can’t kill me, I’m the embodiment of death itself. I am Death, you can’t kill me so what threat do you have for me?!” The thing laughed in a sinister manner.

“Yes, I can’t kill you… but I can destroy everything you own. Remember, I’m more of a god than you will ever be, so I can just get rid of you, and put a new Death in your place, understand?” Zephilith warned.

“Fine, fine, fine, here’s the stupid crystal, take it” he said, tossing a crystal over to us. The moment we caught it, it started to float.

“HAHAHA! YES! The crystal is mine once more! With it, I shall come back, and I shall be more immortal than ever!” Zephilith screeched, as the crystal floated right over the flame on the staff.

Just then, purple lightning started flashing out of the crystal and electrocuted us. All of a sudden, the bony wings on my back became gigantic dragon wings. My fingers and toes transformed into sharp claws. A second horn formed on my head, and the holes that showed my bones and organs were covered with a thick layer of scales like a blanket. My head and face turn into that of a dragon, my chest bulged out slightly, making it more broad and strong. A long whip-like tail extended out of my body then started waving around. Just like that, I was no longer a skeleton-like monster… but a dragon humanoid beast.

“RRRRRROOOOAAAARRRRRR!!!!” A loud and ferocious roar exploded out of my snout-like mouth, and a hot stream of fire bursted out of my mouth and launched into the air.

My new being erupted in laughter, “YES! ALL OF MY POWER IS BACK! MUAHAHAHAHA!!” He snapped our fingers, summoning a tornado-like cloud which released dragons that began to circle the top of the tower, roaring and breathing all different types of elemental breaths. “Now, to destroy this stupid province, and remake it with Chaos, and corruption!”

    Act 2

    The War

    Chapter 4

    In the Dark of Night

    -<|1 year later|>-

War corrupts, war tears apart nations, war creates chaos, chaos is war.

My name is Asthura, I am a dragon, the youngest of a group of dragons I belong to who don’t follow Zephilith and became allies with the inhabitants of the Wynn province. However they do not trust us despite the fact that we took the time to learn their language, to act civil, friendly, and follow everything that they do. We tried to act normal, yet some people still believed we hadn't changed. I was one that was on the edge, I didn’t trust many people since a small group came to my home, destroyed it, took me and my family, and sold us as if we were items. I was released by the ones that bought me, but my family stayed behind. Ever since, I have been treated nicely, I have made friends with some people… but some of them are still my enemies. I still trusted some people, but that all changed last night.

    -10 hours earlier-

I slowly came back to consciousness from being knocked out, when I finally did, all I saw was darkness and metal bars all around me. I could tell it was a cage, but something was covering it. I looked around, searching to find some way to get out, but couldn’t. All of a sudden, I heard a muffled voice, then I heard cheering, then lots of yelling. I tried to call out, but I realized I was muzzled with rope. Shaking my head furiously, I tried to remove it but nothing happened. I was afraid, and grew worried about what would happen if the thing that was covering the cage were to come off.

The thing covering the cage flew off and I found myself caged, muzzled, and shackled up in front of a giant crowd who were cheering something. I perceived a man wielding a whip and a sword standing right outside of my cage. He cracked the whip at me, which hit and left a big cut with blood trickling out of it. I cringed as the tip struck me and tried to roar and scream in pain. I could feel tears welling up right as he slashed me on my side with his sword. "Why is he doing this?" I thought.

“Fellow humans, we have a big show for you tonight! As you can see, we have a young one!” He yelled as he pressed the sword against my neck. “And you know how fun it is to kill the young ones!” he laughed as a wry smile covered is face.

“What kind of psychopathic group is this?” I thought to myself.

“We will cleanse this land of these dragons! They are all evil; they think that everyone will fall for their ‘we are good’ act, but we will never believe that! We will always kill them, and we will show them they’re NOT welcome!” The man announced.

“HOO RAH!” The crowd roared loudly in response.

I looked around and couldn't believe what I saw. I spotted three people that I recognized, three people who were so kind to me. These three individuals were the ones that gave me a home when I had no where to go; the ones who helped me and gave me food. Although I never knew their names, I didn't mind since they were there for me, and I thought of them as my only friends in this world… I believed that thought was reality, but as I now saw, I was wrong, and they had betrayed me as they were sitting right there in the dreaded crowd, watching me in my predicament.

By now, I was almost willing to just let the man kill me, but I remembered that my mom and dad once told me to never give up. I shook those traitors out of my head, but I started to cry anyway. I cried because I knew that this was going to be the end of me, the end of my life, and that I would never see anything ever again. I sobbed, I sniffled, but then all of a sudden, a light shined down upon on me, a light so bright that I could barely keep my eyes open. The the cage fell apart, the rope muzzling me snapped, and everything else tying me down was broken off.

“W-what’s going on here?!” The man questioned, obviously aggravated that I got out of the cage.

I surveyed my surroundings, finding myself still in front of of the crowd. Although the cage limited my movement, it protected me from the people outside of it. Noticing their looks, I slowly backed up and as I did, I noticed shadows, different from mine, forming under me. It seemed as if every step I made was corrupted with dark magic. The shadows formed into different creatures, a lion, a snake, a gryphon, and and many other creatures. The shadow creatures bowed to me, then proceeded to leap into the crowd and begin attacking the people, killing a couple. This just made me feel terrible, so I just ran, escaping the building I was in.

As I made my escape, all I could feel were tears streaming from my eyes and the wind blowing against my face, brushing against my scales, and wings, and ensured that my face started to freeze due to the wind hitting my tears. I ran into a nearby forest, as I did, I started seeing faces in the trees and in the ground, faces of fear and distress. An image of the crowd being attacked flashed in my mind, making me cry harder. I don’t want to kill, and I don’t want to harm people, but if I needed to in order to survive, I would.

“W-why do I have to have the element of darkness!” I yelled out into the trees while sniffling, “W-why couldn’t I just have the element of light, or of fire?! But no! I have the one element that makes people look at me as if I’m a hell demon!” I sobbed even louder, then sat up against a tree and I started to cry harder.

A void of darkness swallowed me as I cried. I saw the Nether god, then Zephiltih, the god of chaos, and then, just as a slap in the face, I saw the god of light. I felt a sudden surge of energy and my vision turned into blood red, suddenly causing me to get become angry. The blackness left me, and the forest surrounded me again. I started to weep to myself again, wishing I could change what I was destined to be… an evil dragon. An aura of shadows emitted around me, and I sensed another dragon nearby, multiple dragons actually.

I look over to where I sensed the foreign presences. “St-stay b-back! I-I d-don’t want t-to hurt you!” I paused and sobbed slightly, “I-I alr-ready k-killed a lot of p-people today. T-the blood in my claws, i-it’s the blood of all of the f-fallen. All that fall to me… their souls become mine. I-I don’t want to hurt you, so… p-please, stay b-back!!!” I exclaimed through my tears.

As I finished my sentence, my vision shifted, showing the trees with gallons worth of blood dripping from their branches. The sky turned pitch black, no moon, no stars, just black, yet the world was still illuminated. As this happened, I cringed, and was scared of myself. I took a step back and instead of darkness, a blast of light came out from under me. I looked down, astonished. Then I saw a group of five dragons come out from the trees. They gave me looks as if they were examining me, and seeing if I was one of them.

One of them, which could possibly been leader, spoke out, “What is your name?”

    “M-my n-name?” I stuttered, slightly frightened.

With a hint of impatience, he responded, “Yes, your name! What is it?”

    “M-my name, i-is Asthura… wh-why do you ask?” I whispered cautiously.

“I ask because we are searching for you, because you are the dragon god’s chosen champion! You are to lead the dragons into this war! You are the dragon that can prevent us from being controlled by the god of Chaos, Zephilith!” He responded proudly as he bowed down to me, the other dragons following his lead.

“M-me? B-but, I thought that the dragon that had to lead the dragon army had to control all of the elements… All I can control is darkness… I’m part dragon, and also partially a demon, or at least I think I am.” I responded. I froze for a second, “I just killed an entire crowd of people, and then just ran away! I’m not good, I’m evil!! I’m worse than the Nether god and Zephilith combined! I’m pure evil!!!” I yelled, convincing myself more and more that I shouldn’t have even be alive right now and I only escaped because of sheer luck.

“Well, the dragon god told us to find you and to train you to your full potential. I think a god wouldn’t be wrong, as a gods and goddesses would be all knowing about the species he or she controls, wouldn’t you think?” He replied sternly.

“T-true… Who are you anyways?” I asked.

“There’s no time to tell you. I will just tell you that we are the Dragon Clan, and we NEED you!” He responded.

“O-ok… I will go with you, but I can’t promise that I will be of any use to you, and the army.” I said, doubting myself.

I followed them deep into the forest where we found a campsite like place. They showed me around, then they drop me off at a little area that looked almost like it was reserved for something. I just lied down, and fell asleep, knowing that this would not be the end of all this madness.

The Light in the Darkness of Death

    Somewhere else in the province...

With the mask of death and despair, the world will look upon you, and will feel sorrowful, but will do nothing to avenge you...

My name is Sethira. I’m a female wolf and I travel with my best friend Phoenix who's a fox. Really, it's ironic that his name is "Phoenix"… since a phoenix killed one of his family members. Me and him have been friends since we were pups/cubs. I have always had a little crush on him, but I don’t know if he likes me that way. I always am near him and we always go on adventures together; we never leave each other behind, but we respect the other’s boundaries and never try to step over it. Plus, he’s a fox and I’m a wolf. It’s astonishing we are friends as wolves and foxes, where we live, don’t like each other, are in a huge turf war, and have been at each other’s throats for a while now. But when our parents found out about us, when they found out about him, they nearly bit his head off.

“You know how we feel about foxes.” My father’s words burned into my memory. That night would change my entire life forever.

I was so angry at my parents, at the rest of the pack. They always try to control me, they think I love them like a family, and sure, I love my parents, but I wish that the wolves and the foxes would just become friends, or at least become neutral again. But, of course not! Whenever I feel angry, I just dig a hole, and hide in it for hours, starving myself, getting myself more and more angry at the ones that made me feel angry in the first place! But tonight, I ran away, out of the forest. The snowy ground under my paws turned to smooth, gentle grass. I looked all around me and I noticed a little town or village nearby and started walking toward it.

When I reached the town, I looked around, examining the windows of buildings which were most likely houses. I also notice an almost unhealthy amount of mushrooms everywhere. An odd smell hit my nose and followed it. Some people in the town looked at me like I was a monster, but some smiled at me as I walked by. As I looked around, just across a bridge and a destroyed building was a forest, and the smell, almost divine, almost heavenly, seemed to be coming from there. I looked closer and made out the form of a dragon, just barely bigger and longer than a horse, running into the forest with his head down.

I decided to run into the forest, and maybe find him or her, and see what was wrong. So I did, although I knew that going into the forest was such a good idea, especially at night. I entered the forest and in a small clearing, sitting there and tearing up, was the dragon I saw earlier. But as I began walking towards him, a mass black shadows suddenly formed in front of me. The mass split off in to several beings which came out to be all wolves, the same wolves that were in my pack. They all glided slowly toward me, their eyes all glowed red, their bodies dark and transparent, almost like spirits or apparitions. They began questioning me in a way that made it seem as if I was being interrogated.

“Why, why’d you abandon us?” One of them said, it's hellish voice echoing through the trees.

“We are your family, why’d you leave us? You made us go looking for you, you made us have to search the fox territory, and they sneaked up on us, and killed us!” snarled another.

“You could have helped, you could have been there! If you hadn't left us, we wouldn't have died while trying to look for you!" howled one.

“But no, you did nothing, you left us to die trying!” exclaimed another.

“Why… why did you leave? Were you mad? Were you upset we didn’t let you see your dumb fox friend? Were you infuriated that we controlled your life to protect you?” questioned one.

“Or were you just a COWARD?! Were you too afraid to hurt your precious friend just so that your family could live?!” roared the first one.

    “W-what? N-no, I wasn’t… I-I mean… I…” I stuttered.

They all begin closing in around me, rotating around me, circling me as if I was a target, something to kill, prey, just a snack, daring me to try to attack them. They kept circling, until one of them lunged at me, knocking me down. That made me realize that they weren’t just spirits or apparitions. They all started to claw me and bite down on me. Surely I was going to die. But as if a light at the end of a tunnel, a long, pitch black dark, and winding tunnel, right before I blacked out, I heard a voice, a voice that sounded familiar… “Get off of her!” it said just before all went black.

I woke up maybe about an hour later. I looked around and found that the dragon and the shadows were gone, but… the one that came to me, the one that saved me was bleeding severely, lying on his side. Cuts, and open gashes in familiar orange, red, and white fur, was Phoenix.

“Oh m- Are you ok?” I said just barely.

    He noded, but I knew he wasn’t. “I-I’m ok… I-I just need to… r-rest.” He said slightly.

I barely managed to get to my feet, nearly stumbling back down twice and almost a third time. My legs hurt severely, I had to limp over to him. I laid right up against him, and I asked him again.

I smiled and looked into his eyes, “A-are you sure?”

“Yes… I’m s-sure.” He said through a smile, “I was just looking out for someone I cared for, someone that I have always loved that I have had the opportunity to call a friend… Someone…” he paused, “someone I love.” He spat out.

The fact that he said that made me worry slightly, with good reason. He was badly cut, bruised, and covered in nearly hundreds of different sized teeth marks. How he has managed to survive this long, was amazing.

“I need to take you back… I need to bring you home.” I said determined.

“N-no… let's just stay here… Besides, I may be fine now… b-but… if you bring me back… then I will die.” He rasped, “let’s just rest here for the rest of the night.” His body said otherwise, as blood was spilling out of his body, staining the grass, dirt, and a nearby tree.

Underneath him was a thick puddle of blood. I nodded, and I rested up against him. But, when he fell asleep, I stealthily got up and lifted him up on my back. He was light… which may or may not have been a bad sign, but I didn’t care. The entire limp back to home was surprisingly easy, but my legs hurt like crazy. But I didn’t care about me, all I cared about was Phoenix, the one that saved my life, and the one I have always loved and cared for.

When I finally arrived, I saw the entire pack. I let Phoenix down, instantaneously morphing the snow into a very dark red. I limped as fast as I could over to the other wolves. They gave me an ocean of greetings, and questions of why there was so much blood on my fur and why I was limping. I limped up to my mother and father and I started tearing up. They saw Phoenix lying there, and became infuriated.

“What is he doing here? Did he do this to you?!” my father howled.

“No… he risked his life to save me. I was attacked, and he protected me.” I said, sobbing.

Their anger went away slightly, “Wait… what happened?!”

I explained everything. Every word that was said, every moment that was shared, every bit of blood that was shed, everything. I shed gallons of tears explaining this, just hoping that they would understand.

“Fine… we will look at him.” My father decided finally, although I question if he really wanted to because he cared, or he just wanted me to shut up.

    “Thank you!” I cried.

As we walked up to Phoenix, who was still bleeding badly, he woke up and found that we are with my father.

    “I-I told you I w-was fine…” he smiled.

“I know… but I needed to bring you here. You’re losing too much blood.” I respond.

“Yes, you are losing too much blood in fact… we can’t help this…” My father says.

    I was shocked, “Wait… so… he might-”

“Yes… he might die.” My father responded firmly, “I didn’t like him… but… I know how much he means to you.”

Just as his sentence finished, I felt as if the world was just destroyed and I was the last one standing… I start crying, not wanting to believe this.

Cringing, “D-don’t worry, I’ll be f-fine” he said.

I laid down and against him, crying. The one that saved my life, the one that I loved, the one that was basically my other half… had just a matter of time before he would say goodbye to this world. This world is already cruel enough, it’s already at war, I don’t need this on top of that… I don’t need to be the youngest of both foxes and wolves, have nobody that understands me, and have nobody to love and talk to. I don’t want to be alone. Phoenix was the only friend I have ever truly had and now he’s dying, after trying to save my life.

“Your parents and friends and family deserve to see you, we need to take you there!” I exclaimed, crying streams of tears. “I don’t care what you say, we are taking you to see them…" I looked at Phoenix, "You don’t have much time left, within minutes, you will be dead, we at least owe it to your family to allow them to say one last goodbye to you!”

“F-fine… just hurry if that’s what you’re going to do…” He winced, knowing the blood loss is getting to him… his body started to lock up and become numb.

My father ended up picking him up, and we brought him to where the other foxes live. As we reached their place, foxes began surrounding us, but when they saw me crying, they knew we mean no harm… They then set their eyes on Phoenix… and seemed to realize what was wrong. When we made it to where Phoenix’s parents are, they spotted our looks and saw their son.

“Th-that’s… ph-phoenix” Phoenix’s mother gasped. She obviously noticed the blood and began to tear up.

“What did you... wolves... DO TO OUR INNOCENT SON!” His father roared with fury.

I explained to the both of them what happened. When I ended the story, they calmed down, and both break into tears as they walk up to Phoenix, begging the gods not to take him away from them. I limped over to them, and apologized.

“If it wasn’t for you… this never would have happened…” He muttered sternly, paused then continued, “now due to your stupid actions, our son has to die!”

“I… I just… I mean…” I was stunned… sitting there crying, and now he made me feel like a worthless life thief.

A voice spoke up, “It’s not her fault.” I looked up and realized Phoenix had said that. “I would have done this if it were anyone, especially a wolf.” Although his voice was weak, it contained not a single trace of fear or stuttering, “I was just doing the right thing, you would have let her die, but I helped her, not only because I loved her, but because this stupid fighting between wolves and foxes needs to end. I do get final wishes, so my first final wish is that… I want you all to make up. Second, I want you, Sethira, to make sure the foxes and wolves stay friendly. And finally, I need to tell you… mom, and dad… I-I l-love you…” he whispered. Time seemed to stop for just a moment as Phoenix let out a long breath, accompanied by a single tear sliding down his face.

His parents began weeping uncontrollably. So did I, my mother, both packs, and even my father a little. But nobody more than me and his parents. His parents and I knew how innocent of a fox he was. He was young, brave, adventurous, loving and caring, one to hug, and not to fight… but most of all… he was someone that everyone could find a way to love and like. My biggest regret, was not telling him that I loved him sooner. But my final promise to him, was that I would avenge him and find a way to bring him back, even if I die trying… He was too young to die and the only thing I care about now is avenging him and bringing him back.

    Chapter 6:
    A kingdom’s destruction

The nightmares of life will always be the things that keep you up at night... but this is more than a nightmare.
This is closer to death and sadness.

Home, it’s a beautiful place, one to be full of happiness, to be full of the ones you love. Unless you’re me. I'm a young dragon, being born 15 years ago. My father is the king over the dragons, making me the prince. Lately, I haven’t been able to sleep, all I have are nightmares, rather, one reoccurring nightmare that shows my father being murdered by someone, who then looks at me and points his claws in my direction. After that I either wake up or stay asleep, met with a void of pure darkness accompanied by ghostly voices whispering in my ears, saying things like.

    “You could have saved him..”

    “...You’re worthless...”

“...You did nothing to save him!”

Every time, I end up waking in tears, contemplating what all this means. Even after all this time, I still don't have an explanation and sometimes beat myself up over this. It's obvious that I should tell my parents… but they’re always busy, going in and out of home. When they are home, I always try getting their attention, but I never can and when they want to do something, I’m always depressed at those times, and don’t want to do anything. That’s all my life is when I think about it, try getting my parents attention, get depressed whenever my parents can do something, rinse, repeat, it’s all a looping hell of a nightmare. Am I in hell, or am I at home… that’s the only thing I can think of during my depressed times.

I’m going outside and am greeted with a horde of dragons outside our home. I scan through the crowd and get concerned, I don’t know why but I do. Without thinking I look over to my father, then my mother, who both look back with smile. But I look away, and start to tear up, and run back into our home. They of course follow me inside, but I make a barrier of fire between me and them.

“Please… Just leave me alone for right now.” I say, sobbing slightly.

    “Wh-why?” My mother questions softly.

But I ignore her, and just walk away.

I lay down in the middle of our cave, with wings spread out, eyes closed, paws on both sides of my head, asleep. Then I awoke, turned around, and was face to face with a shadow, with plain, white, soulless eyes and a giant, pure white smile. Examining it, it looked to have the body structure of a dragon. With some fear in me, I continued to examine it, but it did nothing but stare soullessly back at me. I stood up slowly, and as I did, it moved toward me, slowly, and menacingly. But suddenly, it stopped, and walked in the direction where my parents slept.

I was terrified, it felt as if it were a demon’s presence, but worse. I ran after it, when I got to the room where my parents slept, it was standing over my father. It raised its claws in the air, and brought them down on my father, cutting a huge slash in his chest, so bad it went right to the bone, a torrent of blood gushing from the wound. Then it changed shape, mimicking each and every detail of me. It was framing me of assassinating my father. Then, my father woke and realized what was going on.

“Son… w-what are you doing?! Why are you doing thi-” He was cut off by a jab of the intruder's claws to his chest, landing a direct hit to his heart.

I watch, frozen in absolute horror, then with hesitation turn away and begin running. My mother awoke just before I turned, she sees it and starts to cry, then lashes out on my impersonator. Then the intruder runs out of the area, toward my direction. I watch as it follows me, until it vanishes into thin air, but I still continue to run. My mother was right behind it, and she tails me as I charge out of our home, and run toward the mountains.

I turn around when I reach the summit of the mountain, my mother's still after me. I back away slowly, but I’m on a cliff, I can’t really go anywhere, so I just brace myself. She runs up to me, mentally exploding with anger and sadness at the same time.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! WHAT DID HE EVER DO TO DESERVE BEING MURDERED BY HIS OWN SON?!!” She exclaims with fury.

“I-I d-didn’t d-do it…” I stutter with tears streaming down my face. I glance behind me and notice a river just big enough for me down below the cliff.

She advances, “How didn’t you do it?! I saw YOUR claws stabbed into his chest. YOU DID IT!”

“You’d never understand, even if I told you.” I say crying. Then without another thought or word, I jump off. She looks down at me as I fall, her eyes widened in fear. I fall for a good ten seconds, then hit the water, but I struck the bottom, my back feeling like it was broken. I get out slowly, but I collapse from pain, and pass out.

It’s morning when I wake up, still in the same place. I get up slowly, and as I do, I spot a group of dragons is walking toward me. I instinctively start to move away, as fast as I could. They saw what I was doing, then began to walk away. I just keep going, and going, not looking back.

When I felt like I reached a safe distance away from those dragons, I look back, depressed more than ever as my mind replayed the past few events, it almost felt as though I was going to just die crying due to sadness. But I kept myself strong, knowing that if I went back, I would be trialed, and probably sentenced to death, which would only be the easy way out. I know I will never be allowed back into my home, no matter what, so I will never go back, as hard as it is for me to say that. I will never go back, ever.

Just then, the shadow appeared next to me, and turned into a physical form, a humanoid dragon, with a staff in one hand, and long wings. He sighs at the sight of me, and starts to speak.

“You may not know me, but I am Zephilith, the god of dragons and chaos.”, his voice is loud and seemingly regal,“I killed your father to show that you can be more powerful than that fool. I’ve been watching you for a while, and I see potential, but I don’t see it being met, so let me give you the power, and you shall be more powerful than any dragon there ever was. And all those that despise you will see you as a figure of authority, a god. So, what do you say, yes, or no?”

Knowing it might be a bad idea… I was hesitant, but then I looked back once more, and got angry, upset. I my head turn back at him, and I say straight out.

“No! You ruined my life! You made me an outcast from my own home! Why should I do anything you suggest!?” I yell at him angrily.

“Because, I can help you make your mother proud, showing her you can be a powerful ally, making her rethink her decision of kicking you out of your home!”

I think about it for a bit, and finally decided on my answer.

“Fine.” I say. Then I all of a sudden feel much more powerful, and my body starts to shake with power, it almost feels to be too much.

“Hehehe, yes!” Zephilith laughs. “Finally!!! Someone takes my offer! Hahahahaha!” He laughs even harder, but vanishes.

“W-wait… what is going on? What did you do?” I say, feeling my legs weakening. I fall over I feel sick to my stomach, and slowly pass out.

I wake up sometime later and remember almost nothing, all I remember is that I may or may not be a god now… but I’m not dead. I just start to look around, wondering what else might happen, but then I give up and lie down, crying myself to sleep, scared that something might happen to me while I sleep. But I’m too tired, and sad to be affected by that, so I just sleep, and try to forget what I just went through.

    Chapter 7
    The Crystal of Light

Somewhere outside the province, but nearby...

Hoards of dragons are flying overhead, swooping down while breathing fire and clawing at humans and other creatures fighting against them. The dragons dived through the air, grabbing and pulling up soldiers left and right, then dropping them. They moved so fast, the blood being shed was too much. The human army, composed of at least one hundred thousand soldiers, was barely enough. The sky filled with smoke, walls of raging fire surrounded the army. I was yelled at to get up there and take down a dragon. Me, standing there in the ocean of humans and other creatures, was me, a griffin, my head snowy white, my body long, broad and powerful. My wings spread out to be about ten feet in length when extended, my feathers seeming to glow gold, giving me the nickname "Goldwing", but my actual name is Ikyrou.

I fly upwards through the dark cloud of smoke and targeted the nearest dragon. I slash at it, cutting into its scales and breaking right through to the flesh. Just in time, I dodged a swipe of its claws and took the opportunity to slash at leathery part of its wings, making it lose balance in the air. I managed to back off again as it slashes back at me, but before I could react, it grabs me mid air, breathes fire on me, singeing my fur and feathers. It then slashes at my face, clawing my right eye, then drops me. I get up slowly after I hit the ground, then lunged back into the air, not done yet despite my injuries, but the dragon fled, and was soon replaced by their leader, the God of Chaos. He attacked me with powerful magic, and it blasted me back down to the ground. Mages and Archers attacked, but their magic and arrows didn’t even hit the god himself, there was some sort of shield surrounding him.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. You all shouldn’t be so rude” the god thundered. He expelled a wave of magical energy, launching all the humans, griffins, and all other creatures backwards some distance. But not me. “you here, you’re strong, I like strong. How about you join us, I can fix you, I can heal you, and cure you of all your problems, but, of course, that’s only if you join me.”

I get up slowly, and with all my energy I run toward him and attempt to slash him in the face with my claws, no good. I hit his force field thing, and go flying backwards. “I-I will never do so.” I say, still wondering why he would want me of all things to be on his side.

“Fine, have it your way.” he says as he hurls a blast of magic that sets me aflame and makes me go flying backwards, landing right in the middle of the army. With a quick snap his claw-like fingers he disappears and the war resumes instantly as if nothing happened.

A small squad of soldiers made their way over and put me out with buckets of water from the near by river, the cool water refreshing me slightly. I lay there, nearly unconscious, just waiting for me to just die because the extraordinary pain. I try my hardest to get up and out of the action, but I only end up moving a small distance forward before collapsing back down due to a sharp pain in my hind leg. After resting for a few mere seconds and gathering whatever willpower I have left, I begin to drag myself out of the way of soldiers fighting for their lives, their screams ringing in my ears. Every step I took brought pain, my legs were getting weaker and weaker with every step, my wings weighing me down. Fortunately, I managed to get out of the war zone, but all of my energy was gone, and sunk into the ground, unconscious.

I wake up to find... nothing. The soldiers, creatures, and dragons are gone, their presence replaced with that of grass and other flora. The thick cloud of black smoke was replaced with a clear sky, the sunlight was now free to shine down on me, its warmth made feel good, but then pain consumed my body. I spread my charred wings, revealing blood and an obvious loss feathers, I folded them back when pain engulfed them. When I looked around, I saw nothing interesting, nothing but a dragon in the distance. I slowly head over to investigate, but it is moving too fast for me to catch up.

I attempt to run, but the pain is too strong, so I stood still for a few seconds, paralyzed, then attempt to run again, this time powering through the pain. The dragon wanders into a cave and I follow it slowly and silently as possible. The dragon then enters a gigantic cavern. I look around in the wide open space and spot words on the walls, and with closer examination, I see it’s in a language I’ve never seen before. The dragon stands in the center of the open area, and then suddenly, a pulse of light explodes from its body, sending a shockwave of light around the cave. The light hits the walls of the cave and explodes on contact, immediately lighting up the entire cave. All of a sudden I instinctively turn around, and immediately get tackled. I look at my attacker, and see that it's a wolf. It growls, looking into my eyes, then I look back toward the dragon and find it right there in front of me.

“Who are you” the dragon questions “and what are you doing here?”

“I-I was… I mean… I just, saw you, walk here, and I followed you… t-to, see if you were doing something bad.” I replied.

The dragon looks at me, as if he’s examining me, as if seeing if I’d be worth killing for a meal. I look at the wolf, and it’s just looking at the dragon, as if waiting for a call to be made. I stay perfectly still, hoping that nothing bad will happen.

“Let him go.” The dragon says, then the wolf gets off of me and I get up as fast as I can.

“So, who are you?” The wolf asks, the voice sounding feminine.

“Wh-who are you?” I ask back without even thinking.

The wolf sighs, clearly annoyed, “Just answer my question first.”

I sit there, somewhat scared for a moment, as if I forgot my name, but then I finally say it. “I-Ikyrou”

“Ikyrou? Where have I heard that name before…” The wolf questions.

“So, are you one of us? One of the ones that are supposed to help the province’s army in this war.” The dragon asks.

I look at the dragon, as if he just told me he was a god,“W-what do you mean?”

“There are supposed to be about five champions of specific races in Wynn, I’m guessing that you’re the last, or only griffin in Wynn, due to the fact that we have seen a total of zero griffins in Wynn. But the reason that there are five champions is because the gods have called upon us to find the rest of the five. Reason being is because we are supposed to either lead or at least be in Wynn’s army to fight against Zephilith.” The wolf explains.

“Basically, we need to find these ‘champions’ in order to fight in this war.” the dragon explains, “that’s at least what the the gods have warned us about.”

I stare blankly at them. Then I reply “I-I was just in a fight with a big army of dragons and Zephilith himself. Wynn’s army was being attacked, me and the other griffins were battling alongside the army, and I was knocked unconscious.”

“There haven’t been any battles recently… the last battle was at least a month ago.” the dragon replied.

“Yea, and we have seen absolutely no other griffins lately.” the wolf added.

    Shocked, I ask, “Wh-what?”

“Yea, all griffins have been eliminated at least about half a year ago.” the dragon replied.

    “S-so… I-I was… unconscious for that long?”, I say confused, “Th-There’s no way…”

“Well, where was the battle?” the wolf asks.

“I-It was outside this cave, in this open field area… And… I mean, look at me, look at my wi-” I say, but when I look over, I find that my wings aren’t burned, no scars, nothing. I notice that I am perfectly fine, maybe a little hungry, but fine other than that. “I-I swear… I thought I was…” I stumble, completely dumbfounded by this.

“Ok, well, whatever, let us introduce ourselves, I am Asthura” the dragon announces.

“And I am Sethira” the wolf says, loud and proudly.

“Cool” I say, still dumbfounded about what just happened. “So, why are you here?” I ask softly.

“We are here because we're trying to find something valuable. According to what the gods said, it is very important to defeating Zephilith, but we’ve been searching this cave and all the other ones around here for a while now, we might just give up soon.” Asthura explains.

“But we can’t! We have to keep searching!” Sethira growls.

“But we’ve been searching for a day now, and we have come up with nothing. If the gods know where it is, we will have to ask them, but for now, we have come up with nothing, we might as well just, you know, let the gods know, and look for it when we get more information on its location, and-”

“Wait” I say, cutting off the dragon, in the distance, I hear a noise, it’s a faint ringing, but I hear it.

    “Wh-wha-?”

“Shh!” I say to the wolf, cutting her off as well. “Do you hear that?” I ask, questioning my own sanity. “I hear a ringing” I say, trying to get a response from the other two.

“N-no, no I don’t” Sethira says. She turns toward Asthura, "Do you hear anything?"

    “No, I don’t.” he replies.

“It’s coming from this direction” I say, pointing my beak in the direction of a tunnel that seems to snake around, twisting and turning, but at the same time still manages to stay straight.

Asthura, surprised, says “I-I never saw that tunnel before…”

“Yea, well, what griffins lack in brain, they make up in an amazing hearing.” I said, not sure if I should be offended, or happy about what I just said about myself.

“Ha, well, I can’t really see why, you seem like you’d be pretty smart, at least combat smart.” Sethira says, but Asthura just looks at both of us confused.

“Why are you looking at us like that?” I ask him.

“Well, why are we sitting here chatting, let’s investigate” He replies.

We all walked down the tunnel, me limping a little, but walking nonetheless, the other two start to run ahead. Then I hear something, the sound is coming from behind me. I look back, but see nothing, I call out, telling the other two to come back, but they don’t. After the noises stopped, I continued forward while examining the walls, making sure no crevices, openings, or branching paths come up. The narrow tunnel transitions into a giant, open, almost circular area with something in the center, but the two aren't there. I call out and they reply, but their replies are distant and faint. I move forward, and examine the thing in the center of the area. It’s a crystal of some kind, yellow, and shining bright in a bit of sunlight that is seeping through a slit in the ceiling. I walk forward and pick it up. Then a light abruptly erupted from the crystal, knocking me back. I hit the ground just before the two found me.

“Hey, what are you doing on the ground? Oh well, apparently the tunnel gets so dark that you can’t see where you’re going. So, we got split up I guess, but we ended up finding each other." He looks at the crystal, "What's this?”

“I-I don’t know, there’s this crystal over there” I say, pointing toward it. “I touched it, then light just surged from it, and pushed me back. I don’t know what it means, but… it’s there”

When we all walked toward it, the crystal floated in the air in the middle of the light. Asthura grabbed the crystal, then right as he did, glowing armor formed on all three of us, but it disappeared almost as soon as it appeared. The glow was so bright that I almost thought I was outside on a sunny day with snow on the ground. We looked around the area, stunned slightly. We looked at each other, we faintly glowed a little. The darkness of the cave felt a little less dark around us, then the glow faded.

    “W-what was that?” I asked.

“Do you think it was the thing that the gods wanted us to find?” Sethira asked.

“Maybe, but I kind of want to rest… we’ve been awake searching for this for nearly two days, I just want to sleep.” Asthura yawned.

“I want to disagree, but I feel tired as well” Sethira replied as she lay down, almost instantly falling asleep.

Asthura lay down, and went to sleep as well, and I found myself sitting there, the only one not asleep. Sitting there in silence, the darkness surrounding me, the glows that emanated from us start to slowly fade, and I examine around the area, feeling alone. Then I too lay down, next to the other two, happy that I found friends in this world of corruption and slowly fall asleep.

Sorry for the weird ending btw, but I couldn't think of a way to end it x3
