Website & Forums Bringing back featured wynncraftian

Hello everyone. Today I would like to propose a suggestion to the community and staff team: bringing back Featured Wynncraftian.

What is featured wynncraftian?
Featured Wynncraftian, or FW for short, was a series of official threads that interviewed a notable member in the community. An example of it is here. They would also get a temporary tag on their forum profile. Members were often nominated for FW by the community, and would ultimately be chosen for the honor of FW based not on their popularity, but their contributions and accomplishments to the community and server. This has been a long-time series of threads on the forums, being as old as 2014.

Since late 2020, the FW project has been dormant. The section for nominating people is still up but is completely dead. But rather than scrapping this idea, I believe it should be brought back.

Who could host FW?
Previously, featured Wynncraftian was hosted by ex-admin Colin, but he’s now retired from the team. Community manager Hams could host it, but I’d reckon he’s far too busy.

However, I believe I know the perfect group to host FW: the collective moderation team.

Every interview could be hosted and posted by 1-2 different mods each thread. This was how it was done before 2017, and I think it worked great. Furthermore, this could serve as a great way to bring the community and mod team closer together, which is something both parties are interested in.

Why bring FW back?
If you weren’t always active in the community, you might wonder why FW should return. Personally, it feels like a core part of the community and forums. It’s interesting to read about a player’s time on the server, and it’s nice to feel rewarded for your contributions. I don’t know how to explain it, but FW makes the community feel like something bigger than just a bunch of subgroups.

And of course: “why not?”

Other notes:
- If FW does return, it’s probably best to remove the nomination section. Nominating people can still exist, but it’s better to save that for a Google form honestly.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. FW has always seemed like one of the coolest parts of the community and I’d love to see it back in some form.

 

I'm a fan of it returning, but not a fan of it being a popularity contest as, let's be honest, it once was. I'd rather they be picked out for community contribution rather than "someone made a thread and 100 people said yes lol"

Also if it's picked by the staff team I'd rather staff not be allowed to get it

 

I don't think there's anything wrong with nominations/suggestions, but I do think that nominations should be only visible to whomever is actually running the event, and players shouldn't be able to vote or support a person getting it beyond putting their name in.

 

That’s probably the best idea, honestly. Lets mods know who’s out there but doesn’t lead to any of the other problems those threads create.

 

Bump! Featured Wynncraftian was always a great tradition and I'm sad it once again died off for years after Colin revived it for a bit. Putting people that throw in heaps of time and care for the community in the spotlight as both a way of thanks and allowing them to share their own experience is just the best.

Personally I think a system based on nominations is fine, as long as the deciding pick isn't purely from the popularity vote- maybe something special where people aren't able to see the amount of votes someone got to avoid bad situations propping up.

Also it would be nice to get an award even if I probably don't deserve it as much as the more active forumers...

 

I only know the fact that @YYGAYMER is currently an active FW. Is there only 1 FW for each type of contribution like management, hosting and moderation?

 

Generally, every year they’ve tried to have someone with different accomplishments get FW that year, but there can definitely be overlap (like YYGAMER and Druser both being class builders)

 

Definitely bring it back! There is a lot of people who would deserve the recognition for their work, be it community events, suggestions or projects.

Honestly, "why not" is a good argument here - there are, in my eyes, no downsides to bringing it back.
