    Since I didn't see one on this part of the forums, and its fitting that it should be in the Minecraft section of the forums, Here goes.

    A basic Guide to Texture Pack making.

    Contents:

    I: Finding the Editing software of Choice (and also 3D modeling as well)

    II: Getting the Files you need (resource pack all set up)

    III: Other bits of information
    ____________________________________________________________________________

    I: Editing
    For those starting (or for those on a limited budget) Paint.net or Gimp are viable options.
    However from personal experience downloading from the official sites of both is sometimes arduous, so be wary before downloading from there.

    On the 3D modeling side, the safest option without going through shady Adfly links is Opl's model creator.
    Ignore this if you have cubik pro, as you already have one.

    II: Getting the Files you need
    Relatively short, and this way you don't need to de-compile the jar at all. Just enable file extensions, and change the .jar of intended version to .zip, and now you have access to it (refer to youtube if you dont know how to get to the file location). Now open the folder, and cut the assets folder out of it. paste it to the desktop so you have it at the ready.

    Now, make a separate folder with any name you want, and copy the assets folder into there. (More about this in the third section)

    III. Other bits of information.
    Now, you get to the last part before you can go and start editing your pack.
    Make a text document (mac users make sure your version of notepad isn't writing in rich text format.)
    and put this inside it: *Change the pack_format to 1 if working on 1.8, 2 if 1.9+*

    {
    "pack":{
    "pack_format":3
    "description":"My Resource Pack"
    }
    }

    after that save the notepad document as pack.mcmeta (make sure you save it as the type all files)
    Now you should be on your way. Refer to google for the rest of the process, as that would take much longer to explain. The rest should be self explanatory or learned in time.

    there are many videos on that. opl's model creator is just the adfly free option...as adfly destroys computers. and its easy to use once you get the hang of it.

    here is a video showing how to use it as a definitive example. best of all its text only, so you dont get lost.

    it should, unless you are running on vista or around that age of 5+ years. If you have java you should be able to run it. I only have it cause I went thru a modding phase, and also because optifine and better fps are great.

    IF you are on windows 8/10 then I cant give you much help there. The model creator needs java to work, so it would have to be downloaded. otherwise paint.net should suffice for most needs with the exception of 3d weapons
