I don't own Super Mario Galaxy (iirc, we rented it), but I do own Super Mario Galaxy 2 and damn that game is still fun. I sometimes go back to play games like these that I played in my childhood because some of them are fun for older audiences as well. My favorite galaxy probably has to be either Starshine Beach, just because me and my siblings used to mess around in that galaxy a lot, or Boss Blitz, because, well, it's a boss blitz, and I love those type of things even in a game centered around platforming. I will admit though, I didn't like the green star aspect of the game a ton just because almost all the green stars were in plain sight and there only a handful that were well hidden. Luckily, it all payed off when you have to do the final challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2, a.k.a the Perfect Run, which is probably the fourth hardest platforming challenge I've completed to this day (the top 3 being Path of Pain in Hollow Knight, Champion's Road in Super Mario 3d world, which I actually still haven't done with Peach/Mario iirc, and the border line impossible challenges made by people in Mario Maker).

My favorite boss theme probably has to go to either Bouldergeist (who also appears in Super Mario Galaxy ofc), Bowser's final fight, or Digaleg (all the others are still pretty good though). My favorite boss fight though probably goes to Bowser Jr's Boomsday machine, because it's hilarious messing around with the ai and being able to literally stand on the machine during the final phase as it just rides around aimlessly. While I don't remember Super Mario Galaxy all that well, my favorite boss themes for it were hands down Kamella and Bouldergeist/Kingfin.

In terms of glitches, I never encountered any major ones that ruined my run on a galaxy or anything like that. Most glitches I've encountered have been from me intentionally trying to break the game. There are two hysterical ones I remember encountering though, and I'm still not 100% how I managed to do it (never bothered to look it up). The first is during the final fight with Bowser during the meteor phase. I'm pretty sure the way it works is by managing to get out of the gravitational pull of the meteors, because twice when I was just spamming the slam button every time I could, I literally got pulled toward Bowser, went through him, and died. The other was during the credits, where I somehow managed to fly high enough off screen to the point where it counted it as a death and the credits were just black with no sound until they were over. It probably wouldn't have been as funny as it was if my younger sister wasn't with me at the time though, because we just started playing games with each other with the pointers from the remotes (since those were still on screen, but nothing else was).

tl;dr: I love Super Mario Galaxy 2, and while Super Mario Galaxy has mostly faded from my memory, I enjoyed that one a lot as well.

I remember that was one of my favorite games on the Wii. I have both games, but I forget most of the galaxies since it’s been a while since I’ve played them. The OST is amazing, it’s just so glamorous and magical. The observatory theme and gusty gardens are classics. I think I slightly prefer the first game because Rosalina is bae, shame that she had to be downgraded to spin-off material. (At least she’s in smash!) I remember liking a lot of the boss fights, my favorite had to be the Bouldergeist because it reminded me of Luigi’s Mansion, which, to this day, is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Super Mario Odyssey is a great game, don’t get me wrong, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t like Galaxy at all. There was something about Galaxy’s structure that made it really fun for me. Odyssey is still better than Sunshine, I’ll give it that

I really hope we get a Super Mario Galaxy 3 or a remaster of both games on the Switch. It would be the perfect opportunity since the joycons can work like Wii remotes anyway, so there’s no reason not to.

I remember being afraid of a single boss back then I’m pretty sure it was on of the first games and it was the skeleton shark boss. But ye Boulder Geist was fun.
