Chapter 5: City of Ragni

The gate leads us to a corridor. The corridor then leads us to a large hall, decorated with statues and paintings. At the end of the hall is an elevated platform, on which sits two wooden thrones. Three banners are on the wall, showing the symbol of Ragni City.

On the platform stands a villager in royal robes. He has a golden, old-looking crown on his head.

Me and Katherine make our way toward the King. We kneel in front of him.

The Ragni King look at us with kind smiles, and say, "Rise, angels, my new Recruits."

We stand up. The King says, "Finally, it's nice to meet you. What are your names, if I may ask?"

We introduce ourselves. The King nods and continues speaking. "Welcome to the Province of Wynn, Nicolas and Katherine! This is the noble fort of Ragni, one of the two strongest and most influential cities of Wynn! I have somethings to give you."

The King nods toward a boy standing next to him, who pulls out four scrolls. The first two are rolled around a beautiful, detailed wooden shaft. The King gives each of it to the both of us.

"This is the map of our Province, and also the Province of Gavel. These maps are enchanted to show where you are, and people in need around you. May these help these in your journey." The King then gives us two other scrolls, which are smaller and much simpler. "These are teleportation scrolls. Use them to return to Ragni, from anywhere."

"Thank you, Your Majesty." Katherine says.

"Your job as soldiers of Wynn is to slow the growth of monsters that are ravaging the province, and help all who are in need. Now go, and bring us peace!" He says.

We bow to the King again, and exit the castle, into the city.

"The King's much nicer than I though he would be." I whisper to Katherine. She nods.

The sky starts to turn dark as we explore the city of Ragni. The streets have many shops, with merchants that sold different items. We spend many time talking to fellow soldiers and citizens of the city - villager and human alike - and looking at the map. Looking at the collective map of Wynn, Gavel and the ocean, Fruma now feels a lot smaller.

A soldier walk up to us. "Hello!" He says. "You have anywhere to sleep tonight?" When we shake our heads, he says, "You must be tired, first day of your recruitment!"

The soldier kindly explains to us different inns in Ragni, and gives us directions. The cheapest inn is next to the Ragni Prison. The innkeeper show us to each of our rooms, then we pay her emeralds. Katherine, with her new dagger, goes into her room.

During the day, I went to a Weapon Merchant and bought myself a new spear. It was hard to part with my old one, but I sold it to a nice merchant who said that he will take good care of it.

As I lie on my bed, countless thoughts swirl inside my head. Now that I was in Wynn, what will I do? Will I end up like the Wynnic heroes that so many stories tell about? Or will I be one typical soldier? Not that it was a bad thing...

Slowly, the exhaustion from the day's events sweep over me. Placing my spear against the wall, I go to sleep.
