Addressing Hat Quests

Hoo boy children, it's time for a delightful adventure through the world of...
HAT QUESTS
So uh, let me explain I guess. What exactly IS a hat quest, you may ask? Well, a hat quest is a certain type of quest that has really been irking me recently... A hat quest is a quest that involves obtaining a helmet or hat in order to complete the quest. Most follow this basic formula.

• TALK TO NPC
• NPC TELLS YOU TO GO TO PLACE
• OH NO, YOU CAN'T GET INTO PLACE BECAUSE X
• RETURN TO NPC
• GO TALK TO OTHER NPC
• DO SOME TASK FOR OTHER NPC
• OBTAIN HAT AND GO TO PLACE AGAIN
• SUCCESS

Note: Some quests have variance on this.

Now, let's get into why this is... bothersome. At the end of these, you're stuck with the hat. Well, not physically, more of emotionally/mentally. This hat is important to you now. You never know if you might need it for some other quests *coughcoughbreathinghelmetcoughcough*. So you decide to chuck into your bank, letting it take up precious space for whatever random garbage you collect along your journey.

This wouldn't be all so bad if there were only three or four of these type of quests, but...
There's roughly 10 of these quests, if not more. That's like, 9% of all quests. Who the heck is making all of theseHERES A LIST OF THE ONES I CAN THINK OF HOO BOY

• Underwater
• Purple and Blue
• House of Twain
• whatever the climbing helmet one is
• Finding the Light
• The Realm of Light (Ooo-wee, these two happen at levels really close to eachother)
• Creeper Infiltration
• Temple of Legends
• the one with the ghostly cap
• Hollow Sirene
• One of the Hunger of the Gerts, I forget which one
• Underice, Beneath the Depths, and Reincarnation require a hat to complete, but the hat doesn't originate from them, so they're in a sort of grey zone.
• Maybe 1 or 2 more because I skipped most the low level Gavel quests

Now supposedly there's gonna be a questitembankmaybeidon'tknow.jpg which will fix one of the main problems of these quests. However, there are still some issues that remain. The core mechanic of these quests, the hat requirement, is... bothersome to say the least. I understand the reasoning behind using a special hat to enter some areas, but sometimes it just seems... unnecessary. The hat isn't really required persay. The same goal can be achieved by using a magical spell/seal that protects you, or whatever random crap you can think of. Just anything that makes the whole process simpler.

Overall... This is just something I've observed and that's come to mind. Personally, I think the concept is fine and works for a few quests... but reusing it for a whole buncha quests just seems silly. Maybe I'm just nitpicking over a minor thing, maybe I have a point. I don't know, I'm just some bozo on the internet. Am I the only one who's noticed this? Is there some secret underground Hat Quest Hate Group I'm missing out on? Anything you feel I left out? Discussion, comments, distaste towards my stupid face, criticisms and all that jazz is encouraged.

 

You know what I'd like to see? Quest Items that the player uses rather than give to somebody else.

For example, acquiring a Machete to cut some vines.

 

Something LoZ-esque to get to places you can't without an item would be pretty darn cool.

One you forgot is the Suspicious Prison (10/10 disguise if you ask me)
And I fully agree with this, there are too many of these, and its not like their that much fun
especially if your entire loadout is based on the Blue Mask so your forced to play with no armor/crappy normal armor.....
