Understand game design to some degree and how the game works along with being able to write a coherent story with words that make sense is the best I can simplify it.

The Skill of being a GM has so much to it, you cannot put it into one single thread or guide.
there are so many aspects and different jobs of a GM that most GM's are only good at certain things.
When pretzule says understand game design and how the game works, it sound really simple. but you have to immerse yourself in lore, memorize statistics, and become a creative writer.
along with all that you have to strategically place mobs, ETC.
Not to mention that this game is very complicated, and as a GM you have to know everything.
    almost ;P

sorry if this message is discouraging, it sure was for me when I first heard of this, but I have matured, and I have gotten way better at quest writing, and have become really good at other GM related things, and so can you!

don't forget that being a GM is a job so you won't be able to... play the game as often, so your time will be consumed by being a GM

You can go a little deeper with some more channels than just Extra Credit.
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqJ-Xo29CKyLTjn6z2XwYAw
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0JB7TSe49lg56u6qH8y_MQ
Here are two really good ones, I especially like Mark Brown's channel a little more than the GDC channel simply because it's a little more condensed and focused on a single thing instead of the development process. But listening to any of the GDC puts you in that mindset of how a game developer goes through their thoughts and how they decide things also great for just listening to just because.

    In an app I'm looking for a couple of things;
    1. Is the quest original?
    2. Is the quest good gameplay wise? (Not a lot of walking, fun activities to do, is there a cool mechanic? An example on a mechanic is shrinking in Bigger Picture)
    3. Are the dialogues enjoyable to read?
    4. Is the mob creative? And not just some boring "Detlas Citizen"
    5. Detailed apps (pictures included, quest stages described, etc.)

Unless you're a Selvut or Pat, I feel like making a creative mob is so unfair, since it's nothing you can display, and play. It's literally just stats.

Therefore, whenever I judge, I tend to be very forgiving about the mob.
