Proper map to be made if this gains enough interest
If there are any places in the world you wish to know about specifically - Ask! Within roleplay, some information is regarded "common knowledge", however some other information can only be gained by visiting a place or talking to someone who has been there.

Welcome to the lands of Sariel - A brief history.

Once united under the rule of a great queen, these lands now belong to whomever can rally enough men to defend them. However, the current ruler is a gruesome one. King Grusalf the Second he calls himself, and has been the only king for centuries to inherit the throne from his father.

His father had ruled a whole of ten years before an assassin killed him in his sleep, his personal guard knocked out by some sort of gas. While it cannot be said he was a great ruler he was tolerated by most. The same cannot be said of his son, who rules without mercy, without a single though toward the less fortunate of the land. Beheadings two times a day, anything from murder to simply choosing the wrong words when addressing a superior, everything that reaches the kings ears is a death sentence.

As gruesome as these techniques may be, they are particularly effective. Talks of any rebellion are quickly put to an end by the executioners axe, while the possibility of reward for those that bring any valuable information to the prosecutor turns neighbour against neighbour and makes even the closest friends stop trusting each other.

There have been rumours about a warlord of the south gathering men from outlying villages to bring an end to Grusalfs rule, but who is to say that this new ruler will be any better once he secures the throne.

    - Recent Events -
Reports of disturbances near Trinida and the northern villages have come in. Crops are dying without reason and last years harvest was the worst on record, even compared to the great winter 15 years ago where the frost destroyed most of the yield. Many people blame a curse, black magic or some other supernatural. Others claim it is a sign from god that it is time to rebel.

Where in the world - A geographical handbook

The old fort of Trestel, located on a small hill - restored by Grusalf the first - now serves to house the king, the old Citadel slowly falling to ruin so many years since its construction. The main city of Sariel – Liareau - spreads out below it, surrounded by a menacing wall that is guarded 24/7. The city looks poor, its inhabitants under constant threat by their own ruler and often forced to work for small or no wages at all. The once rich merchant houses now look neglected as caravans from other larger Cities avoid Sariel.

The Old Citadel was near the middle of the region, yet with its ruin and the town around it destroyed in several wars, Trestel was chosen as new capital fort. This fort is east of the old citadel, and its hill spouts the Eriole - The largest river in the Region that acts as a moat to city as well as providing water supply.

The Towns that once surrounded Liareau are mere collections of hovels, their previous dependence on the cities trade crippling them as this decreased. The only town near Liareau that is flourishing is the mining town Frenda. The miners guild there has a long-standing contract with the king – they are self governed and get relatively good prices for their raw materials as long as they deliver a set amount per month.

Surprisingly enough the lands further away from the capital are not doing too badly either. Rebel parties have no interest in the destruction of outlying villages and so they have been mostly spared. While the winters are harsh farther north and there has never been any support from the throne in a long time, these places are left alone – as long as they pay their taxes and deliver enough food to stock the king’s granaries.

    Your place in the world

Now you might ask yourself what you are to do in this place.

Well… that is mainly up to you. Depending on your answers to a few basic questions you will be allocated a starting position (usually a village or town), as well as some basic character information and a title (if you happen to be a Noble). You can choose to be satisfied with the life you get assigned to and therefore choose not to venture far, or, if you think you are up to it, try to end the rule of the king.

I will occasionally throw a few unforeseen events at you if I see your character becoming too bored and staying too much in a single place, but I wont usually split much from the general story line.

I will take the role of one of the king’s royal guard. While I can see the cruelty the king is exercising I am also bound by oath to protect the king, as are the others in the guard. And what could a single man do. Also, this role helps my character to know what is going on around the world, as he would be standing outside counsel meeting rooms and might pick up a little information.
    ________________________________

Now what - A quick guide to role-play rules

You "control" only your own character. Basic non-player characters may be controlled slightly within reason. (For example you could convince a fellow outlaw to rob a caravan with you... because thats what an outlaw would do. You could not however convince a guard to stab his superior... because thats not something a guard would do.)
All named characters are not controllable at all. Named characters are any player controlled people, as well as notable persons in the region (who may or may not have different motives) or any character i brand in this fancy blue colour.

If you do not assign what a character does over a period of time he or she will automatically revert to doing a reasonable task (say, when near your home farm, farming, or, when an outlaw in a city, hiding or infiltrating). Characters left alone for a longer period of time may revert to an unnamed status and can then be used plot wise (note: this can be deadly).

Remember this is role-play. If your character is suddenly engaged by some bandits without any previous fighting training, he or she wont suddenly beat up the heavily armed bandits.

    ________________________________

    Character Design

Here are a few questions to help determine your character. Note that choosing all the obvious good options might end up in me giving you a shitty backstory that will backfire, and that choosing some more obviously bad choices might make it more interesting.

It is ‘recommended’ you choose one of the options present (if there are options), but if you can think of something interesting ill consider it. Note that you can also just say “random” for any option and ill piece you a character together (who may not just fit the given options).

Also note that some options are gender exclusive due to the time period this is set in. Male only jobs are marked in red, female only jobs are marked in blue.

    Name:

Gender: Male/ Female/ Eunuch (Note this can be male or female and is really just there for rp purposes)

Age (Note that any very young or old age may limit rp):

General Appearance (picture or photo accepted):

    Parent Jobs (Choose 2 – Whether any parent is alive or dead will be randomly assigned): Noble/ Veteran fighter/ Regular Soldier/ Nurse/ Merchant/ Caravan Driver/ Farmer/ Nomad/ Woodcutter/ Blacksmith/ Cook/ Miner/ Hunter/ Fisher/ Outlaw/ Peasant/ unknown /none (You were an orphan)

    Jobs in your early life: Privileged Noble’s Child/ Squire/ Lady-in-waiting/ Goods Peddler/ Apprentice/ Assistant/ Street Lurker/ Nomad Child/ Poacher/ None

    Current Job: Privileged Noble’s Child/ Squire/ Lady-in-waiting/ Student/ Goods Peddler/ Apprentice/ Assistant/ Street Lurker/ Nomad Child/ Poacher/ None

Quick Backstory (e.g: How comes both your parents were nobles but you still became a nomad child?):

Goals in life (note that these goals can change. Please don’t be too specific. Use some Logic E.g. “Be king” with Jobs saying something like Peasant/Peasant/Poacher is probably not going to be accepted – but may still happen during the rp):

Any other things you want to mention:
AS OF NOW IM NOT ACCEPTING ANY BACKSTORY THAT SAYS "MY PARENT TAUGHT ME HOW TO FIGHT/HUNT AT AN EARLY AGE" BECAUSE LITERALLY EVERYONE HAS THIS AND IT REALLY ISNT A PARTICULARLY GOOD BACKSTORY. THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE.
As an example app heres mine:

    Name: Oscar Logarith
    Gender: Male
    Age: 19
General Appearance: Slightly less than average height. Average body size. Dark black hair, light brown eyes.
    Parent Jobs: Regular Soldier/Cook
    Early Jobs: Tanners Apprentice
    Current Jobs: Kings guard
Quick Backstory: The Tannery was burnt down due to the shop next-door leaving candles lighted after leaving the building unattended (the owners were executed). Due to the death of my mother just previously I could not rely on her to support me, and, lacking any other options, I enlisted to the army.
Skip forward 2 years and I'm sent out to an outlying village that had not payed any taxes for 2 months straight with a group of about 2 dozen other soldiers. The commander of our small party – upon arriving but not seeing any village inhabitants – orders us to find any when suddenly they erupt from the houses armed with pitchforks and any other weapons they managed to acquire. More by luck than judgement I found myself, still alive, fighting just beside the commander. Being overwhelmed by the amount of farmers and their eagerness to defeat us we were slowly driven out of the village, when one of the rebels managed to stick a long pike of sorts into the commander’s stomach. Having no leader the men started to retreat fully, leaving me to swing the dying commander over my shoulder and follow them to the joyous cries of the peasants behind me.
The commander, upon reaching the fort of Trestel still alive recited what he remember and I as sole member of the troops was elevated to royal guard, while the other routed members were either executed for treason or striped of all property and sent to live off the streets.
Goals: Prevent the king from dying, more importantly; keep the king happy with myself so he doesn’t decide I should be executed as well.
Other Things: Aware of the bad treatment of the people but unable to do anything in this position since I value my own life as well.

Note: Your backstory can be shorter - or longer! :P
    ________________________________

A few more things to remember:
    - If your character does anything significant it will be mentioned in the brief history
    - Geographical handbook as well as map will be updated together if say, an outlaw camp is discovered
    - Options for character design may change if there are too many people going for the same choices and my creative backstories are running out.

    Gender: Female

    Age: 20

General Appearance: Fairly lean with long brown hair. Pretty much your average peasant girl.

    Parent Jobs: Both farmers.

Jobs in your early life: Apprentice of a scholar/farmer.

    Current Job: Farmer.

Quick Backstory: When Violet was young, her parents forced her into a scholar's apprenticeship to try and bring her family out of peasantry. She enjoyed it, and tried to keep doing it, but eventually she had to leave the apprenticeship to help her parents run their farm. Her mother was executed for speaking against the king, and her father was getting old and could barely run it by himself. After going back to the farm, Violet then started writing works to subtly call the people to arms and take down the king.

Goals in life: Be literary support for the rebels.

Any other things you want to mention: I may or may not be active. I'm also joining a different roleplay at the same time so if I mention a random character who's basically an anime protagonist let me know and I'll edit it. RPs can get confusing. Also, is there such thing as magic in this world? I'm assuming it's a no but if it exists let me know.

    Name: Vesini "Quickshot" Alkizer

    Gender: Male

    Age: 18

General Appearance: A man of around the age of 18, longish brown hair with normal brown eyes and a hardened face. He was no attractive person, but very smart and clever

    Parent Job: Regular soldier, Merchant
Jobs in your early life: Street Lurker

    Current Job: Hunter/Apprentice

Quick Backstory: Abandoned by his family at the young age of 6 due to Vesini's overwhelming needs as a child, he roamed the streets of Trestel (Correct if im wrong of this being a major city), begging for money and stealing from the unsuspecting. He made a living this way, and surprisingly and somewhat decent one. Finally saving enough for a small hovel out side Trestel. After starting to settle down with his soon-to-be wife, Ameila. One morning, they decided to go to Trestel to the marketplace and buy some food as they were running low. She stated she knew a quicker and more interesting route to the market place, and she being a very adventurous person, decided to go with her. This was a fateful undoing, as he was following her, he realized this was a longer route. He looked at her clothing and saw a glint of metal in her hands. He realized this isnt the girl he thought she was, and this was a trap. He turned and darted away, only it was too late. He was surrounded by theifs. He was trapped. Defeated. He gave up hope, he was done for. He turned around with adrenline and pure furiousity and jabbed her in the stomach, taking her blade he threw it. Suprisingly it landed square in the middle of his head, and he dashed away. This action did not go unnoticed. He went to bed and slept this nightmare off. Daybreak, a new day for new decisions. He heard a soft knock on the door. Hesitating, he opened the door knowing this could be his final action. Instead, it was a middle aged man at around 50 years old. He looked Vesini square in the eyes and said "Would you like to be my apprentice." Being groggy from sleep and the alchohol he drunk, he didnt realize it was a expert marksmen, popular in his small village. Vesini was always quick with his hands and very accurate with a bow. He took the mans out stretched hand, and agreed. This was a whole new chapter in his life, a good one or a bad one. We shall see

Goals in life: An expert marksmen

Any other things you want to mention: Still an underling of the hunter, quick to learn, lean. Puts work before all else and isnt that great with relationships.

    Name: Matthew "Rogue" Quetzel

    Gender: Male

    Age: 16

General Appearance: Average height, skinny, pale skin, dirty blond hair, blue eyes/PERSONALITY: He thinks on his feet, due to his risky lifestyle he is always getting into trouble, he is a good kid at heart but is going down the wrong path as an assassin

Parent Jobs: Regular Soldier and Nurse

Jobs in your early life: Apprentice

    Current Jobs: None

Quick Backstory: Matthew as a small child was never expected of much, all his parents wanted was so that their little Matthew could have a good life, family, and that he never learns about their past.... At the age of 10 his father was killed by an old enemy of his, and that was when his mother told him, they both used to be deadly trained assassins, that used to work for the king themselves... Matthew couldn't believe it, and now that his dad is dead and the secret is out, nothing is safe, for the next 3 years his mother Debra taught him everything that she, and her now dead husband, knew about magic, alchemy, sword fighting, and archery. Of corse, his mom Debra wasn't the only family member he had, he also had two sisters, a little child named Sarah, and a twin sister, named Katherine, and she was as well trains in the art of the assassin like her brother. Now that Matthew has passed all his classes, he drops out of school with his sister and transform into a nomad lifestyle. He is about to leave home, he takes only the necessary items, some gold coins to barter, a sack to store loot and other items, a backpack for the last one as well, his fathers sword, which was enchanted to be as sharp as no sword has been, and will burn at the touch, some beef jerky (yum), and a flask of water, and is about to go out on a quest as a hired contract killer, thief, and who knows what's next! (So much for the word "quick" in this backstory)

Goals in life: Become the greatest assassin known to Sariel/ avenge his father/ get rich to afford to buy a house

Other: The sword actually has a name, as it will come later in the story, and is named the Emerald Acid Blade. Matthew does has a last name, as you can see, but he doesn't give it out to others, same with his 1st name, so everyone just calls him Rogue. The Emerald Acid Blade is actually from an old adventure map I made, and is used by kings in the lost kingdom of Emeraldonia to slay their enemies, which technically speaking, means that Rogue and his father are both kings! Also he starts in Liareau

@Cloudavia , @Shumar , @blankman , @Enderman1234 , @Rogue , Map has been added, as well as a small section with some extra rules. Ill read through your applications now as well and see if anything needs changing, or add slight bits to the characters to make them more interesting.

Accepted! Your character has been placed in Resmund - A village just south of Pegir ( http://prntscr.com/9c7bxz ).
    Geographical Lore:
Pegir is a relatively prosperous town in these harsch times. While not as large as some others nearby they benefit from small trades with towns outside the Sariel region that kept their trade relations up despite the problem Sariel was facing. As the town furthest from the new capital, Trestel, they are not as affected by the ruler there. The Militia Commander, Joriab Berenz, Based in Sariel is corrupt and allows himself to be bribed by the head merchants to further allow this trade.
Resmund is a tiny village, no more than a cluster of huts, just south of pegir. Life is difficult, but people are generally happy. They also benefit from their distance to Trestel. The most notable incident was last year, where the farmers of Resmund failed to deliver enough grain to Trestel. Several Armed guards were sent out, and a few sentries often wander through the fields since then. However many of them are lenient, the their Commander in Pegir does not often enforce the Rules set by the King.
    Rp:
A day as any other. Late June. The sun is relatively high up in the sky already as you head out for work. Maybe you shouldn't have stayed up late to write another pamphlet. How much could a few written words really provoke...
    ---
As for the magic question - As of yet people believe in the existance of magic, as societies in that era would, but the existance of magic is neither proven nor rebuked. Mainly this is so i can bring in another idea in later if i feel like i should and can, but people cant simply "ruin" the rp by 'does something "because magic"'.
    ________________________________
Accepted! You were placed in The Old Citadel ( http://prntscr.com/9c7lrm ).
    Geographical Lore:
While the old capital was officially abandoned many years ago, the town around the citadel - while ruins in many places - still functions. Many people decided to stay despite the destruction, and during the years of ruling at Trestel, has managed to build itself up slightly once more.
    RP:
You spend your days on the streets, begging mostly, or doing any job that is offered to you - not that there are many. You have often thought of stealing something to get by, but the ever watchful eye of the militia has mostly deterred you. Only once you stole half a loaf of bread that a local baker had dropped while walking near where you were sitting. You never liked the baker anyway.
One day you hear there is a high mason coming to town. Hes looking for workers to go to Trestel to help reinforce the eastern town wall. He advertises high wages and fair lodging but you have heard of this kind of slave work before. However, you think of your rumbling stomach and whether you want to reconsider or not...

    Being an elite assassin/spy seems slightly excessive. If you want to keep the general character of a wolf-person, here goes;
    Slightly edited backstory:
You were abandoned at birth, your parents leaving you in the forest. Life was just not sustainable with another child. Two full days you lay in the dirt until a she-wolf found you. Her Maternal instinct taking over, she takes you in and treats you as one of your own, and you you are led to believe you are. Soon you grow older though, different. The old Alpha Male wolf dies of old age and several wolves struggle to achieve the leading position. The victor emerges to be a young wolf whom the others refer to as "Scar". This new Alpha wolf sees a danger in you, and banishes you from the pack.
Hunting alone in the woods you are soon found by some Outlaws, who at first mock you for your lacking understanding of human language and lack of clothes, yet soon find your tracking and hunting skills of use, although you still need to learn how to use other weapons than your teeth and nails properly.
You can speak broken wolf-ish as well as broken english, but your lessons in the latter are coming on well. One of the outlaws used to be a teacher.

If you accept this new lore and make these changes to your character ill place you on the map. Note that if you dont like this you can also make a totally different character :D
    ________________________________
Accepted! Trestel is the main fort, the main city below it is called Liareau. Also, note the average age at this time is mid 40s. Your mentor may die any time throughout the story due to old age. You have been placed in the western part of Liareau ( http://prntscr.com/9c7skl )
    Geographical Lore:
The Western Part of the city is known for the hoards of beggars and street lurkers that come into the city by the western gate. Many are drafted into the army, many more starve. Though the rules for crime are harsh, crime is still a thing in this part of town as people with nothing to lose are driven to desperate acts by their state. Not that many of these crimes go unpunished, but for these people even death would be a release.
The few shops left in this part of town do not make much profit, and the majority have already moved away from the stinking streets of western Liareau.
Your home is in a small side street, the entrance to the street so narrow it isnt often used by the beggars as a hideout, and has the advantage of not being controlled by the local watch a lot.
    RP:
You spend you days hunting in either the wastelands or in the woods just west of Liareau. You often set up camp there for several days before heading home again for a day or two. Your mentor has taught you much over the past weeks, in the way of archery, but also the dissection and cooking of the meat you caught. Most of the game you manage to kill you sell at the local market for fairly cheap prices. The money there and the meat you keep for yourself keeps you alive, but theres nothing left over after you pay taxes and rent.
One day you are just about to go out when you hear a few town watchmen knocking on the neighbors house, asking about a man that was murdered by a throwing knife a few weeks prior. Your eyes dart to your bow and quiver standing near the doorway...
    ________________________________
Accepted.... but we need to change the part about magic. I would suggest changing it as follows; Your mother does not teach anyone magic, and the sword is a family heirloom. It is said it was once enchanted by a great Priestess to never lose its sharpness, and to burn any evil it may come in contact, and until now, no matter how much it was used it has never gone blunt.
You were placed near Liareau ( http://prntscr.com/9c80y6 )
    Geographical lore:
The areas near Liareau are wastelands, plagues by over-farming, and then the rebellions that this land so often has to endure. Caravans and travelers only seldom travel near the northern part of these wastelands, preferring to stick to the main roads.
    RP:
You spend your days out in the open wastelands. However, while to an unskilled eye it may seem completely barren, your expert eye often reveals small clusters of edible roots or berries, as well as offering enough cover to set up camp every day.
You practice what skills you have every day, and when possible offer them to any that need a job to do. While often discouraged by your age - those that take your services are seldom disappointed and you have acquired quite a reputation in some circles.
You have only just woken up when you see a small peasant boy wandering around the wastelands, searching for something. You grab a weapon - your sword - and head out quickly to meet him. Sneaking up behind him and placing the surprisingly warm blade on the back of his neck you calmly ask him what he should be doing so far away from home. He silently turns around and hands you a letter, takes a step away from your blade, and makes a run for it. You debate whether to chase the little brat and decide against it, and instead shift your gaze to the letter, which simply says: "Joriab Berenz. Militia Commander. Pegir." It is not signed and there is no note of promised payment.
You wonder for a short time who this might be... and debate whether to take the job.

I grab my quiver and bow and decide to head out of the city, in a more secretive route, keeping my head low.

You leave quickly before the watchmen spot you sneaking away. You run through a maze of small streets and alleyways, lost at first but slowly becoming aware of your directions, and head towards the side gate. You slip quickly between two shop owners that are having a loud argument just inside the gate and step outside of the castle walls.
"Breathe" you tell yourself... "where to next...?"

You half jog half walk towards the woods where your mentor should be waiting. You try and keep your head low but your awkward movement style soon attracts the view of a caravan guard who trots up behind you on his horse.
"And where are we going today so hastily?" he calls out calmy
Inside is merely a quick hand-draw map of Pegir, and some short instructions on how to get there. There is still nothing indicating who this may be from. The handwriting is all in block capitals and leaves no indication of who the writer may be. Obviously a clever client. (See map on title post for the location of pegir).
You walk back to your makeshift camp and begin gathering your things...

I say to myself, "That sure is a hell of a ways away, I'll have to go into the city and get some supplies, and if it pays well, maybe some new shoes." As he lifts up his shoe to see that is is basically just a sole strapped onto a thin piece of cloth. And walks into Liareau's east gate to bump into what looks like a soldier , "Hey watch where your going!" He says as he bumps me out of the way.

EDITED Backstory: Matthew as a small child was never expected of much, all his parents wanted was so that their little Matthew could have a good life, family, and that he never learns about their past.... At the age of 10 his father was killed by an old enemy of his, and that was when his mother told him, they both used to be deadly trained assassins, that used to work for the king themselves... Matthew couldn't believe it, and now that his dad is dead and the secret is out, nothing is safe, for the next 3 years his mother Debra taught him everything that she, and her now dead husband, knew about alchemy, sword fighting, and archery. He is about to leave home, he takes only the necessary items, some gold coins to barter, a sack to store loot and other items, a backpack for the last one as well, his fathers sword, which was enchanted by an Emeraldonian Priest to be as sharp as no sword has been, and will burn at the touch, some beef jerky (yum), and a flask of water, and is about to go out on a quest as a hired contract killer, thief, and who knows what's next!

RANDOM EDITS: Now that I have some edits with the backstory, there is no magic, but Alchemy, the perfect combination of potion brewing and science, remains. And of corse the sword was an heirloom, and also, Emeraldonia was actually a small nation from before Sariel, which also means (if I have the right to change the perspective here) that the ruins near Liareau are actually old Emealdonian forts. Glad I cleared that up for ya

READ: also reply to me if its ok to change some backstory with the one closest ruin near Liareau.

EDITS 4 EDITS: ok so now that we have that settled, let the show go on!

Intesting story young..." , he looks the the bow you are carrying; "hunter".
He makes his horse trot in circles around you. "Maybe your master should have taught you how to be on time as well eh?".
He chuckles slightly, obviously pleased at this poor attempt at a joke. He looks at you once again suspiciously, then, with a shrug if his shoulders, signals you to move on, and he returns to his caravan.
The mason gathers about two and a half dozen workers, including you, and heads out along the main route to liareau. You are stopped three times by armed patrols, but each time the head mason flashes a piece of paper at them. He calls it an SGP. You are told its short for "superior grants passage". All you can think if is "slave gathering permit".
Your party moves slowly, you camp outside one day and the next day you arrive at the east wall - it is already late in the afternoon. You wonder whether the dwindling light is enough to work in. As if to answer your question a worker loses is footing and falls off the scaffold. No one seems to care.
Your head mason ushers you into a nearby house with some bunk beds and a large table, and serves dinner.
This first dinner is the best you have had in a long time. Although the mason only supplies porridge, many of the workers brought foods with them from home, half a sausage here, a few apples there. Everyone shared and it became quite a feast. You decide to save some for the morning.
For some reason there seem to be more guards around as usual. Artfully dodging any further inspection from the guard that may have led to the discovery of the sword he was hiding under a few cloths, Matthew finds his way into a larger square.
He sticks his hand in his pocket and feels for the coins he had placed there. Still there. Good. Thieves are to be reckoned with even in this part of town.
He glances around at the shops here. Rich shops selling fine carpets and garments mixed in with simple butchers and fish mongers. He looks longingly at a shoe store before gathering himself. There were much better prices to be found in the west side of town.
A little problem with the backstory still - the enchanting is just a rumour that has not been proven yet, but as i said in the original edit it has never lost its sharpness no matter how much it was used, or, previously in the story, the blade felt strangely warm. Whether this is all due to "magic" will be revealed later when i decide to introduce it - or not. As for your backstory concerning emeraldonia, ill allow it that your character is originally blue blooded, and therefore the sword, however the kingdom itself will not be added (hints to "old civilisations" might appear here and there, maybe ill add in something emerald based). Maybe the noble family you descended from traded a lot of rare gems. Keep in mind your character has no idea of this.

I continue to the west side of town, taking the alleyways, not wanting to be seen, when i make it to the west side shops, I see a peddler and ask him, "how much for a new pair of boots?"

As for the sword, he doesnt know it can burn (like acid btw, not like fire) whatever it touches, he barely even knows how it got into his families possession, but he does know something important happened with the sword, maybe you could add a semi-story around it?
