This guide will show how to install Wynntils for you to use while on the server. For historical purposes, instructions for Wynn Expansion will also be included after the section dedicated to Wynntils. If you are not familiar with installing mods for Minecraft, I highly suggest following the instructions closely.

This thread is split into two parts; the upper section will guide you to installing Wynntils and the bottom section right underneath this part will cover Wynn Expansion.

Have an issue? Check the Notes section at the bottom of the guide to see if it is covered there.

Ensure Minecraft is closed when following this guide.
By following the procedures set by this guide, you acknowledge and understand the following:
    • These mods are not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Wynncraft, and Wynncraft is not responsible for it. By using any mod, you acknowledge and understand that the use of any mod are at your own risk.
      • You also acknowledge that this thread contains vital information regarding complying with the server rules.
    • If you download either mod from places other than their official designated locations, the file most likely has a virus in it. The developers shall not be responsible should the mod(s) damage your computer due to not being downloaded from the official pages.
    • Unfortunately, Wynn Expansion has been discontinued. Please do not expect updates to the mod whether it would be adding new features or fixing bugs.
    • Both Wynntils and Wynn Expansion are mods, not modpacks.
    • Neither mods require the Twitch Client nor Curse.
    • Wynntils was designed to be used on 1.12.x only; 1.11.x support has been dropped as of version 0.1.0.
    • Wynn Expansion was designed to be used on 1.11.2 and 1.12.x. Other versions will not be supported.
    • Operating systems not listed in this thread will most likely never show up here.
    • More of these may be added without further notice.

Want to watch a video instead of reading instructions? (does not include instructions on installing Java)

This process assumes you are using a very recent version of Firefox to download (not install) Java, Forge, and Wynntils. Note that the process should not be significantly different between web browsers.

If you already have Java installed, you may skip this portion of the guide.
The first thing you need to do is to install Java. Java is what powers Minecraft, Forge, and mods for the game.
    1. Head to Java's website by clicking here
    2. Click on Agree and Start Free Download (image)
    3. Save the installer (image)
    4. Open the installer, click Install (image), and wait for the program to install Java

If you already have Forge for 1.12.x, you may skip this portion of the guide.
Before you install the mod, you will also need to install Forge. Forge allows mods to change the way Minecraft behaves.
    1. Head to Forge's website by clicking here (this will redirect you to version 1.12.2)
    2. Ensure you are downloading the recommended version by clicking the Installer button (image) (I recommend using the recommend build of Forge because 1.12.2 is still active in development)
    3. Wait a few seconds then click Skip Ad (image)
    4. Save the installer (image)
    5. Open the installer and click OK (image) (ensure you are choosing the option Install Client)

This part is a bit more complicated if you are new to how Minecraft stores most of its data, so pay close attention if you don't know what you would do without assistance.
    1. Head over to the mod's thread using the Download link at the top of this section
    2. Click on the image that says "build: passing" (image)
    3. Click on the option that says "Last stable build" (image)
    4. Click on Wynntils-x.x.xx_xxx.jar underneath the "Build Artifacts" section (image)
    5. Open up the Run window by pressing the keys Windows + R simultaneously
    6. Type in %appdata% and click OK (image)
    7. Open the .minecraft folder (image)
    8. If there is no folder called "mods", create a folder with that name (image)
    9. Open the mods folder and place the mod inside (image)
    10. Open up the Minecraft Launcher and set your running profile to Forge (image)
Note that downloading other mods have the same steps 2-8 and that multiple mods must be designed to be used on the same version (e.g. Wynntils and OptiFine must be compatible with 1.12.2 in order for it to run).
Want to watch a video instead of reading instructions? (does not include instructions on installing Java)
Because this video was originally created for Wynn Expansion, the location to download Wynntils will be in a different place. Please ensure you download Wynntils from the link above. If you are still unsure of what to do, I suggest not watching the video and read the directions below. Please remember that Wynntils requires 1.12.x and will not work on 1.11.x.
Note: You can safely ignore the part at 1:38 to 1:44 if you don't know what is going on there.

If you already have Java installed, you may skip this portion of the guide.

    1. Head to Java's website by clicking here
    2. Click on Agree and Start Free Download (image)
    3. Open the installer and click Open (image)
    4. If you are prompted to do so, enter your username and password, then click Install Helper (image)
    5. Double click on the icon then follow the instructions (image)

If you already have Forge for 1.12.x, you may skip this portion of the guide.
Before you install the mod, you will also need to install Forge. Forge allows mods to change the way Minecraft behaves.

    5. Open the installer (image) and click OK (image) (ensure you are choosing the option Install Client) (The Mercurius option is most likely removed from 1.12.2 builds, but if it still exists, if you select the Mercurius option, it will download Mercurius, a mod, which collects statistics about Minecraft and your system; it is useful for the developers of Forge to understand how Minecraft and Forge are being used)

This part is a bit more complicated if you are new to how Minecraft stores most of its data, so pay close attention if you don't know what you would do without assistance.

    6. Click on Go to Folder in the dropdown menu (image)
    7. Enter "~/Library/Application Support/minecraft" in the search box and click Go (image)
    8. Find the "mods" folder; if the "mods" folder does not exist, create a folder with the name "mods" (image)
    9. Place the mod into the "mods" folder (image) (pretend Wynntils is the .jar file in the image)
    10. Open up the Minecraft Launcher and set your running profile to Forge (image)

    Wynn Expansion
    Download

Please note that if you intend on using Wynn Expansion alongside with Wynntils, you will need to use the 1.12.x version of Wynn Expansion. If you do not intend on using Wynntils and only Wynn Expansion, you still have the option to use 1.11.2 or 1.12.x. For the purpose of the guide, I will be using 1.11.2 as an example, but the steps to install Forge and Wynn Expansion for 1.12.x should not be significantly different than using 1.11.2.

Player highlighting was recently decided by the moderation team to be against the rules. Please ensure you disable all forms of player highlighting to comply with the rules.

    Miscellaneous
    Notes:
    1. Wynntils has an auto-updater that automatically updates the mod when a new version is available, but if it fails to do so, simply reinstall the mod manually.
    2. Submit your issues to either #crash-reports or #bug-reports and questions to #support in the Discord server.
    1. If you use OptiFine, you may need to turn off Fast Render to prevent issues with player highlighting and random crashes.
    2. OptiFine may not work with the latest version of Forge, rather, it would work with a specific version of Forge. If you are having issues with OptiFine and Forge being incompatible, check the changelog of the latest version of OptiFine; in there, it should say "compatible with Forge #xxxx". Use that build of Forge if necessary.
    3. If you're seeing a whitescreen upon logging into Wynn and using OptiFine 1.11.2 HD U C7, use build 13.20.1.2530 of Forge.
    4. Currently, the mod will be unable to read what an unidentified item's rarity is when it is on the ground. This is a known issue, but unfortunately, nothing can be done about this. For more information and an official statement from the developer regarding this issue, click here.
    5. I personally recommend using the 1.11.2 version of the mod as I find it far more stable than the 1.12.x version. Of course, you're not obligated to use 1.11.2.

Credits to people who helped tremendously with this guide:

    • @LoveLusting for drawing the amazing image of Wynntils

Much appreciated, I'll give you credits for doing so.

Are you running on macOS Sierra or a very recent version of macOS/OS X? I'd like for the guide to be as updated as possible.

Mac OS Yosemite I believe, but I think that only affects the file type required to download, the steps aren't very different from Mac OS to os

As long as the steps are the same in macOS Sierra and the upcoming macOS High Sierra, I'll definitely take it. If not, I'll still take it, but mark it as outdated.
