What is it about people (boys preferably) on online MMO games that makes them so protective of their significant other? They'd be playing online with their partner, and I'd make a joke like the cheeky breeki I am and they'd message me telling me to get off their girl. What am I gonna do? Virtually smack their ass or something? This was on GTA online by the way.

Maybe they're so insecure any relationship they get they're way too proud and end up coming off like an overprotective scumbag. Oh well, what do I know. But since I know most all of you have a girlfriend or boyfriend obviously, so I'd like to know.

Guys do that in a sense that they feel someone is going to "attack" their gf. Human nature. When they feel that their gf is threatened irl or virtually, they get over-protective. What I do mostly is ignore them. Better get away before they knock you off with a Zentorno or something.

Because people hate it when something important to them is insulted/defiled.

    This includes nationalism/patriotism, interestingly enough

They get really hostile though. It's not about their love, but their pride and ownership, thats why they're so protective.

I'm not so sure about that...
I mean, I'm fine if somebody insults me, like I can just blow it off, but I hated it if somebody insulted my girlfriend.

It wasn't an insult though. And it's over the internet, in a game.

Why am I even here. I have never dated. Like to note that couples are all to touchy feely for me.
My closest friend can't even hug me. Ehhh hugs :unamused:

I mean like, I have a bf, and neither of us are super protective over each other. I haven't been really protective over my ex-gf either. It's really confusing to me too.

What's wrong with hugging a guy? I mean, I'm straight (as far as I'm aware xD) and I do it all the time to everyone I know, no big deal.

It's alright to not be super protective, people are weird

Part of this (but not all of it) will be about all the crap some girls get online, single or not. Ok, so this guy was being overprotective in this case, but sometimes people try to stick up for gender equality and they get the wrong end of the stick. People automatically assume that standing up against online insults/accidentally-offensive-jokes means you are trying to get into a relationship with the victim.
    The effect of so much online gender based ""hatred"" is that;
    1) The gaming community gets a bad name
    2) People become over protective, so the slightest joke becomes an insult. And... since there isn't an official "When Banter becomes bullying" guide often people take it the wrong way or go a bit too far.

All I can say is to be careful what you let come out of your mouth/keyboard. I guess saying "don't have fun at all" or "stop doing banter" would make the internet a loveless, horrible place. (Like a wasteland... Uggghhh)
Also, (I'm not really one to judge) but I'd say that depending on the game, people'd be less protective/mean about it. That kid/man/interspecieslustfilledoverprotectivespacealien was probably pumped with adrenaline/testosterone he felt he had get in the way of whoever interfered with his date.

Anyway, there isn't anything you can do about it. People are naturally protective and in any game where you wield a weapon, people will naturally feel thy have to prove themselves/ protect themselves.

Not sure...some people are overprotective haha

Whenever I play MMOs or other online games with my boyfriend we make fun of each other and joke around. Our friends also make fun of us sometimes but all in good fun. I haven't /really/ experienced someone getting angry because someone was poking at their significant other as of yet.
