    As far as I'm aware, the only things that matter are:
    • Your level,
    • Tier of the chest
    • And the longer a chest goes without being open, the more loot it generates

    actually tier 3 have better loot than 4 but tier 4 give a lot more emeralds

    This may have been what you've experienced but I don't think that's how the chests are actually designed.

    Actually it also checks for how long the chest was left unopened. :P
