Will Villagers ever get portraits?

Obviously, most villagers use the actual villager model, which only has so many possible textures. There could still be characterization of them in their portraits, though.

 

While I don't actually have any concrete proof I do believe that Wynncraft is planning to eventually replace Villagers with an original species of their own creation.

They've pretty much gotten rid of most of the "Minecraft" exclusive stuff from Wynncraft with the only remaining ones being Villagers, Creepers, and also Pigmen to some extent. Even the Nether's been removed from the game, and that was a pretty big one. It'll be a little bit pointless to make portraits for something that they don't intend to be permanent

(This is also a good time for me to go on a minor rant on how bad "Villager" is for the name of a species where half of them don't even live in villages. I mean obviously they weren't thinking that far ahead back then when they were still using Minecraft mobs and that's all fine but it sure made it difficult to change a humanoid species that occupies half the game's population today)

 

Even if villagers get replaced by an original species one day, I think portraits would be a good first step rather than wasted work – drawing portraits for the important villager NPCs is basically deciding what that new species looks like. Right now a lot of quest-givers look identical in the world, and a portrait in the dialogue box is the one place they could have their own face without a new model.

 

They will be replaced with a new species called Cityfolk to reflect the fact they live in Cities instead of Villages

But then there'll be a drastic contrast between portrait and model. Would be kinda weird if either one looks entirely different from the other
