SPOILER I'm not really feeling the RoL storyline

As many would know, Realm of Light is a questline that is in need of rewriting.

I have attempted many times to rewrite the story and I could give you many versions of it if I vent hard enough, maybe somebody will come up to tell me why I’m dumb.

However, I think I came up with the DEFINITIVE Realm of Light.

The issue of the story here is that the story tries to teach the concept of gray morality.

But why, though, the player is chaotic good. He is the one who kills so many undead back in Wynn and we never have a problem with killing bandits at all! Trying to teach players this does nothing for the story.

More so,

The player has to be dragged around Gavel by this Lari character who is btw hated by the rest of the community because she is annoying and she IS annoying. She is constantly failing about her job and the game keeps dragging it for 5 parts. Why does the player even care about this? Again, he is chaotic good. Why would he care about being dragged around when he would deal with everything right away, whether he got Lari’s permission or not.

First we just started with a big ass worm that got infested by decay and Lari accidentally killed it then she felt sad about it. Later we meet her again and she talks about this decay stuff going on. SHe failed to cure it again but not before being called by the Light. However the Light rejected her yet we got audiences with Orphion. Lari, still crying like usual, would accept that we work together now and leave. Then we meet her ex-boyfriend who reveals to us about her past in the castle and we just left it off there. Then we “work” with her to wake up the tree but then she gets mad because she is jealous of us and tries to kill it. Though we beat her then the tree lore dumped us stuff. After that we are able to get into the Realm of Light and beat evil creatures in it with some random evil guy showing up for some reason. Then Lari gets tricked by him to the portal and dies. So now we are going to deal with the raid ourselves and that is the end of the quest.

Despite all that, I still think Lari’s character might be meant to be likable. After all, she is closest to the player as a love interest. So instead of removing her like many people would suggest because that would be an easy option. I will make her the companion that the player deserves.

Wanting to improve this quest for everyone in the community, I sat down and outlined a rewrite just to get it off my chest. If you are on board this far, just humor me. Or tell me I’m taking this way too seriously. Either one work:

Spoiler: The Worm Hole

The quest started like it usually does with the player coming across construction and the workers falling into the hole. The player of course would be sent to the hole to investigate and then he has to come back up again where he would be sent to find Lari by the villager. Meeting with Lari goes the same but then she talks about how the player has nothing to do with this and does not need to intervene further.


Not liking how he was treated as nobody that can’t do anything, he followed Lari to the hole. Lari of course was mad about this but she let the player follow along. Then you hunt the big worm with her.


You manage to solo the big worm(with the correct build) as Lari says how she does not want to hurt it. However the worm would not be dead and swallow the player whole along with Lari.Lari did her magic thing and accidentally killed the worm where she felt sad about it. The player gives her pep talk about how she has to kill stuff to get somewhere but she is stubborn about it. The conversation then get cut off because Lari is crying about how the worm is actually the mother and now you have to deal with the babies alone.

Spoiler: The Taproot

After the raid, the player then comes to Lari camp in Dark Forest. She whines about how the decay is bad and tries to cure the decay but fails. Two of you decided to investigate the decay more by doing caves in Dark Forest. After finishing the investigation, you two come back to the camp with Sovereign Majin, the Morning Star. In this one, you can ask her about what decay is and stuff.

Then Lari cut off by saying how the Light finally gave the sign and left the camp. The player followed her up the mountain where she tried to get into a big door but got pushed by it. She then whines about how the Light rejects her and she does not get it.

The player seeing this would get tired and step into the door himself. The player then gets to talk with Orphion saying how he needs a new chosen one because Lari is useless. Seeing the player as a good candidate, he gave the player a test. Being chaotic good, he succeeded the test with no problem and Orphion approved him as the new chosen of the Light.

The player then comes back out of the big door to meet Lari. She then confuses how the player could get into the Taproot and then whines more about how much work she does in the game. The player then cold heartedly said Lari was doing it wrong and now she has to accept that she will be working with him now and follow his lead. Lari begrudgingly accepted it and left.

Spoiler: Finding the Light

You meet Lari again in Light Forest where she tries to wake up the big tree. She tells the player how the tree will allow us to go to the Realm of Light if she manages to wake it up. After some reading, Lari told the player that the book needed to wake up the forest in Cinfras so the player stormed into Cinfras and destroyed Cinfras’ infrastructure to get it for Lari because the elves are banned there.

After getting the book, Lari then says how she needs to talk to the elder about the book and a way to wake up the tree. However she told the player not to follow. The player, not being happy being told to not meddle with business he has nothing to do with, follows Lari anyway. The player then eavesdrop on Lari's conversation with the elven elder where she complains about how the Light abandoned her and chose an outsider instead. The elder tried to calm her down and told her to accept it. Lari begrudgingly agrees and the elder directs her to find the canna abis to wake up the guardian tree. Learning that the canna abis is need to wake up the tree, the player goes to the cave himself to get it.

Coming back to the big tree and meeting Lari. Learning that the player is doing stuff without her, Lari becomes mad at the fact that players never listen to her and now she will be useless for the Light as she did nothing meaningful so she tries to kill the player. The player then beats Lari(with the correct build). She then throws a tantrum about how she will be useless if she does not do anything. The player step his foot down and tells Lari that she needs to kill if she wants to please the Light.

Lari was confused and conflicted about this, the player then told her to hit him with her full power if she really wanted to take his position as being the Light chosen. The player tells her to hit him with “EVERYTHING” so she can get what she wants. After multiple times of trying to get Lari to do it, she finally does it and becomes upset that she could just cross her moral boundary all this time.

However the guardian tree would wake up and heal the player from Lari’s attack before doing lore dump how Light and Dark are not good or evil and why Gavel has the decay. Then it opens to the Light realm allowing Lari and the player entrance. Lari and the player would then exchange words about how the player has helped her finally see the right path and tell him to get ready.

Spoiler: Realm of Light

The player and Lari finally enter the realm of Light only to be met with the realm falling apart because of the decay. With her newfound path, Lari carves a path through the realm of Light against the darkness creature that infested it. She kills everything in sight as she shows the player a way to the monoliths to get them activated in order to connect the realm back together so they can get to the Nexus. On your way to purge the evil from the Realm, you also have to complete all the caves and lootrun in the Realm of Light.

After finally reactivating the monoliths, the player and Lari would finally make their way to the Nexus but were stopped by the evil guy. The evil guy then talks about how he is a pawn and how evil he is before engaging them in a fight because he sees the player as a threat. The player fights the evil guy but then gets beaten by him but luckily Lari managed to save him to fight the evil guy herself saying how dare the evil guy lays his hand on “her” player. As they fight each other, the player manages his way further into the Nexus until right at the gate.

The evil guy taunting Lari about how Orphion would be happy to see him leave. Lari then has a final exchange with the player about how she needs to chase after the evil guy and she again thanks the player for helping her get to the point and give her purpose to the journey. She then charges the evil guy into the portal and disappears. After the two left, Lari would send one last message to the player about how he needed to deal with the Parasite now before being cut off by something. Then the raid opened up.

And that concludes my TED talk. I hope someone explains why this is all dumb now.

I'm glad you removed Dullahan. Even if the devs INSIST that he and Lari were just friends, I HATED seeing a man and a woman interact in a positive way. Why doesn't our (male) player character ever get to have a romance? My one complaint is that you didn't add an optional route where he can date Lari.

 

Quick question did it actually ever hint them as something other than colleague? (I mean I think most people ship them at least a little (I kinda do but don't really care) but am kinda curious?)

 

I mean, usually you don't try to resurrect your dead colleagues using black magic and then become super upset when it doesn't work, but also usually you don't work with the same person for several hundred years with no other peers on your continent.

this is very inconsistent characterization. The player would never have a respectful conversation with the now-female reasonable she/her Majin. He must first do like 20 caves with her and psychologically torment make her get stronger.

 

why didn't we write it this way. are we stupid?

 

Quests tend to get better when you add Majin in it
