I really like how Azael's existence helps drive this home. Since they went through the same stuff as Gikyo yet work against the crown, it shows Gikyo's sadism is very much their own choice and not just a result of their mistreatment.

Nah, the group is repeatedly called "the brothers" by Quill. Yuman also often refers to them as "my bros."

 

I started a new playthrough of Fruma recently and one thing that stands out is that there's no one I really dislike in the main storyline. Even characters who aren't the primary focus feel like they have some moment that contributes to the story, like Kaio's speech at Aledar's grave or Yulie/Jiro presenting their own opinions on what a resistance should do.

This playthrough also makes me feel sad about what happened with Zeph. He gets a ton of focus in the first half of Fruma and was probably my favorite Leaf in that part of the game. After Solidarity of Steel, he just gets so much less focus than he should, and I can't consider him one of my favorite characters when plenty of others feel like their story is more complete. This is the guy who first reached out to you in Fruma and who was willing to fight soldiers to protect innocents, despite the objections he faced. He deserved a bigger presence in either Ensemble of Hope or Apotheosis, at the very least.

 

As much as Zeph is my least favourite Leaf independently of this observation, I do agree the focus shifts away from him. Initially I thought he was going to be the "main character" of Fruma (as like the one with the most development) but it turned out to be Sui.

 

Hopefully there's more Zeph in the next installment, although that's gonna be a while.

 

I also want to know what happens to Rex, she is just revived, has one less arm, doesn't speak a word and is left there

 

All of this is entirely because the Wastelands and epilogue were cut for time and will be released later. I suspect we will have more Zeph in Wastelands given that we're rescuing him from prison there.

The only thing I really dislike about Zeph is his relationship with one of the Y brothers because I didn't really feel like the chemistry was there. Granted, more than likely it was there, but I was blinded by confirmation bias with Reph, I don't have any high level accounts to redo Fruma so unless someone can yell at me how they do I won't know for a while lol.

I don't understand, is this a tier list based on how much you like them from the perspective of you, the player and audience as an actual critic? Or is it a tier list from the perspective of your character and their personal feelings towards the other characters?
Because while I don't think Gikyo is necessarily anything special or an S tier character by any means, he still is very entertaining as a villain and fills his role in the story pretty much flawlessly considering how little screentime he has. The same goes for Majin, who I like far more because of his arrogant peacocking. Yeah, he tramples over people without a single care for them, that's the point.
He's a villain you love to hate, like Ballas from Warframe or Skott from HSR.
I don't see why "these guys are evil assholes" should be docking points from the tier list when that's the entire point of their characters.

If the implication here is that all the sovereigns should have the same morals as Soosu and Zhiraok, then I hard disagree because that would remove the dynamic of the sovereigns' relationships to each other. Soosu and Zhiraok are endearing characters because they're the only ones that said "no, this is wrong". If Majin, Gikyo, or even Tasim did the same, it'd ruin the power of that character development.

 

It's entirely subjective and I've ranked based on the emotions I got from them and rated them as people, not characters

Like I agree that bad and morally grey people work as really good characters, like Tasim, Majin, the Queen and Gikyo, but still they're bad/morally grey people

I think even the inverse is true sometimes, I can't think of examples in Fruma but, let's say, Lari is a really good person from my perspective and I would have ranked her high in a list like the one I did, still she definitely could have been written better as a character

 

I personally rated them based on writing strength. All of the Sovereigns who actually show up are very strong in that respect. Even though there's two third-act-turncoats, they're extremely distinct from each other in *why* they rebel, which ties very well into their overall characters - Zhiraok really is trying to be the best leader he can, and learns that doing that within the existing system isn't good enough, while Soosu has nothing left to live for and no way to die, so may as well stick it to the lady who cursed her. (I didn't even register how dark Soosu's "I dare you to kill me :D" monologue at the end of the Roughworks chapter is when I played. It just seemed normal...)

 

Everyone's made tier lists based on their own criteria.

 

I really like how Gikyo is below Majin and even the Queen because of how evil they are.

Even tho they are literally example of the Crown's treatment toward changeling and see them as a tool instead of actual being that they are. As a foil to Azeal, Gikyo is the one who lay down and accepted the role given to them due to them seeing resisting as futile and no different from what they currently doing now. This result in them channels their frustation onto people of Mistwood even if they basically in same tough spot as the changelings. In the album art, you can see them staring at the remnant of wickerman as reminding them about what the people of Aldwell did to their kind who they cherish as we can see from Croaquin.

So having them below Majin is really funny because Majin is a complete dick who not just an asshole but outright making people lives actively worse and even harass a girl in university out of the sole fact of her being a Nasin. He even waited for the day the queen give him the go to slaughter the entire Nasin house and no question it at all. REMINDER HE BORN PRIVILGED AND BASICALLY GOT EVERYTHING EVERYONE OF MANY PEOPLE WOULD ASK FOR IN LIFE. He even force the entire survival of the fittest on the program which lead to the event of the Strong Survive. ALL of that, and somehow Majin is less evil than Gikyo.

If Gikyo is bad and deserve to die despite of their upbringing, then the queen going below the nine layer because while yes she probably got worse upbringing than Gikyo. SHE IS THE REASON GIKYO AND THIER KIND ARE LIKE THIS. She is the entire root of the problem and yet somehow Gikyo is being written and ranked in here like they are worse than her lol
