I feel it's probably wrong but my thinking is that it's so annoying that it takes a dreadful amount of time to complete

unfortunately, that's kinda far off cause one:
i complete dwelling walls pretty quickly
two:
i usually forget that it even exists (sometimes a few years back I would read through all the quests I'd done (this was on my first playthrough) and be like "Dwelling Walls, what the heck is that?")
three:
8 hours is a reference to the contents of the quest, not the completion time

I'll guess From the Mountains because the first guy you meet in the quest has a very "am I a joke to you" reaction after you seem to miss that his house is on fire, and it probably was on fire for quite a long time, so maybe that's where the 8 hours come from
