Wild idea, but what if the Fruman gods have something to do with our spark?

 

I'll disagree and say that I actually really love the idea of "oopsie, we did a solid for the devil, now we've gotta kill them to make it right" but I do agree that since Anathema doesn't think it was them, it probably wasn't, at least directly. That said, I'm not necessarily sure that she doesn't; she comments that they don't know what they've overlooked, but to me that almost implies they were somehow involved. They couldn't overlook something they didn't know about and weren't involved with. I think her saying they "overlooked" us makes more sense in the context that they used us as a pawn, while failing to notice that we were a poor pawn to use. For instance, Saphanis thinking that using us to kill Anathema, thinking that we would be easily dealt with, not realizing that we were more powerful than they had anticipated.

 

If Saphanis thinks we would've failed it doesen't make sense why they would've done that action when every single thing Saphanis has done has been a accurate or covert action. Saphanis isn't the type to just throw resources if they think its not gonna work.

If Saphanis thinks we would've suceeded then that means Saphanis believed we were super strong and thats definetly not overlooking.

I also think if Saphanis really did use us as a secret weapon there would've been a much better way to go around this? I mean lets say they intervened while we were originally in Fruma and let our memories get wiped and then did spark/soul shenanigans. They have never intervened even once since then and just let us go around making the entirety of Wynn a better place, saving gavel twice, saving corkus, killing the parasite(which would've taken over all of orphions claims in Gavel eventually), then going to the Silent Expanse and not stopping us from making the journey(Instead doubting we could kill the eye!) and let the eye of dern get killed and then in panic closes the portal to Dern.

Like I feel like it would've been easier to pull some strings and bring the player back to Fruma and then pull some more strings and help stage the revolt.

 

The thing is, Saphanis and Orphion have both taken notice of us already. They can be completely unaware of our true nature and still have "overlooked" our anomalous spark, because we beat the snot out of the Parasite with Bak'al aware. That gets a pawn on the board, with neither side noticing that it's two squares away from promotion (and also sideways).
