Last week I made a quest survey for the new Fruma update and asked y'all to rate all of them out of 10. This was inspired by Da_Homeboi's survey for 2.0 in 2022, and I collected 46 responses through a Google Form which was then put on a table and averaged every quest rating, using that to rank all 158 quests in Wynncraft from worst to best. So without further ado, here's what I got:

    • 158) Zhight Island (2.7, Lvl 55)
    • 157) Lost Tower (2.8, Lvl 24)
    • 156) Green Gloop (2.9, Lvl 31)

    • 1) The Missing Piece (9.3, Lvl 111)

Yeah I think I pretty much fully agree with the top 5. My bottom 5 are a little different but otherwise I'd generally agree with the consensus. There were some surprises here and there especially compared to that survey Da_Homeboi did where some quests either got ranked drastically higher or lower, but that's to be expected from this sort of poll (especially given how a lot of the early game quests got a lot of improvements after 2.0).

I made a scatter plot for this thing too if you wanna see:

So yeah, it generally seems like the most liked quests are newer, original, have fun gameplay, a well written story, fits within the lore, and just overall good game design. The bad ones tend to be fetchy, have outdated mechanics (like helmets), excessive traveling, poorly written, and just overall boring to play. I like to think quests sort of get better with each year, and with how good the Fruma quests have been I think that the content team is heading in the right direction with how to do quests well.

Some surprising results here, like Iron Heart and Aldorei Parts 2 both being so high. The top 3 and their noticeably higher scores don't surprise me at all though.

Wynnexc Site D still holding on. I've gotta wonder how much of that's nostalgia and how much is the fact that it has good elements, but is just dated.

    Very useful info.

There's some unreliability here. Wynn has a lot of quests and most people won't remember the earlier ones well. When did you last play Frost Bite? Out of My Mind? And even trusting the data, it's spread very broadly. There's a trend, but it's not very significant.

You can, however, see a sort of sag in the 20-60 range. That's the part with the oldest quests; Wynn's been spiffing up the earlygame, but once you get out of it you're tossed right into the ditches of Creeper Infiltration. Few Fruma quests are really abysmal, but some of them were first-time work.

It'd be a bit more effort since you can't just run down the wiki Quests list, but could you make a year chart? I think that would be very telling. Assume updated quests to be the year of their updating, even if not everything was redone.

I think in those cases, people won't remember the specifics of the quests themselves, rather the experience of the quest. For instance, I rated Frost Bite somewhere in the 4-7 range. It would be a solid 8 if not for the hours I have spent looking for the quest location (on multiple classes!). Out of My Mind is one that I always have fun with, so I ranked positively, probably higher then most (given the abrupt end of the quest, but what sticks in my head is the music and the dialogue)

Not saying Fruma quests are overrated (I think most of them are done pretty well) but I feel like there's definitely a recency bias here. 7 out of the top 10 are Fruma quests, some I don't really think should be there. The Missing Piece and Off the Rails are very good. But True Colors and Ensemble of Hope? Ehhh. And Echoes of Change was a bit of a blur to me. But that's also just my memory of those quests, so maybe I'm wrong.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you at least partially; I think true colors is pretty strong just for the boss fight alone, which is probably the best fight in fruma, and the fortress section, while not like misadventure tier good, is still decently stuffed with detail while being pretty fast to go through on replays. Ensemble meanwhile works pretty well as a penultimate capstone before the climax.
I dunno why Echoes is so high, though; I do feel like that one is pretty weak

epic cutscene (I didn't rank it super highly, but by looking at The Fault of Valor you can ascertain the approximate length, which is 9-10 minutes, which is an insane ton of Cutscene (although most video game players inexplicably dislike cutscenes. RoL III is good fight me))

I actually agree with Echoes of Change being rated very highly. It’s very well written and shifted the story in a direction that made it so much more interesting. Everything just all fell apart, and that was when I knew that the Fruma quests really didn’t screw around. And I agree with True Colours and Ensemble being high for the reasons previously mentioned.

    For those who forgot,
it’s the one where Syndra died.
    ________________________________
Dunno if I can make a year chart because tbh for anything before 2019 I have no idea when every quest was last updated or made. All I’m gonna say is I like to think they get better with each year, and that yeah around the 30-70 range is where it starts to get kinda weak, especially in Wynn. The desert, ocean, and dernel jungle need rewrites for most of the quests imo, and the ocean especially has a lot of missed opportunities (Lack of an actual Selchar quest, Half Moon Island, Skien’s Island, and some of the bad quests in all the other islands minus Mage Island). With Dernel Jungle I think they could easily improve the WynnExcavation storyline beforehand and possibly make a raid requiring Nii Runes where you fight Amadel but like with god strength or something?

I thought the wiki's update section listed each update's quests, but it doesn't. Would take a lot of sniffing to find those logs. Or CT help.

Oh wait echoes is the roughworks climax whoops
I was thinking of the espren climax with the first zhiroak fight
I still think echoes is a little weak due to its gameplay kind of dragging on replays but I haven’t played it with the cutscene music which probably improves it quite a bit

Now if we wanna talk about a Fruma quest that I think is massively overrated when I played it, I'd easily say Through the Pipes. It was so laggy and buggy when I did it and it just kept on going, genuinely a painful experience for me and I wanted it to end. I'll try it again now that it's been almost two months but I am not looking forward to it. Hell I greatly preferred Strong Survive. I also think Undersupply is... fine, just fine, and probably will eventually be seen as that after the hype wears off.
    ________________________________
I'm kind of surprised it got so high, from what I've seen from the community a lot of people agree that and A are the better parts of the questline but it's still kinda average overall and very very dated. The story and boss isn't even really that good, I don't think it's a bad quest but I think it's heavily carried by nostalgia personally.
    ________________________________
I'm not too surprised by Iron Heart given that a lot of people just seem to agree that questline has always been pretty good, especially in later updates. Now Aldorei's Secret Part II shocked me, I didn't think it would get higher than Part I. I can see that it actually uses the new dialogue system well and it has a lot of lore but like others have said it's hardly connected to Part I at all, and the game really wants to make you care about Olon but he just doesn't have enough screentime imo.

TBH this is the problem with literally every single Quest Friend (TM) (!!!) you get before Fruma. A quest is just not long enough! And the post-quest thing with Olon takes too many real-world days to go through. Nobody's going to remember to check one of the most unnoticeable towns in the game every day for a week or however long it is, for this Dude from a quest.

    Per the wiki:
    > After the quest, Olon can be found in his home in Efilim, trying to get over the harsh truth he never wanted to learn. He tries to cope with reading, which fails, but later feels better as his shame is turning into hatred for the old elders. After another day, the player arrives earlier to his house than expected, and as he is trying cooking as a new hobby, he requests the player gets some ingredients from the surrounding Light Forest. After Olon gives the player a meal, he realizes that he never took the time to grieve his parents' death. After another day, Olon's guilt about the impact of the old Elves' decisions has finally worn off, and he gives the player a Thank You Gift for helping him through his troubles as he tells the player he's heading off to the Cinfras Library.

    Three days, but still.

Three real-time days? I swear I went back to Efilim multiple times and was like, "Oh this just never got implemented." If it tracks based off of real-time that's terrible game design.
