Corruption is its own influence, but its created by Light and Dark fighting. It spreads on its own, but it can also be created when they make contact with one another.

but i have SEEN red blocks in decay patches, we really gotta make sure we have the decay:purple and corruption:red more consistent

that's (probably) a mark of Lari trying to purify it if you're talking about the Dark Forest

 

The Decay is kind of odd to me. It's supposed to be Light depletion, but it looks like mild Dark influence instead, at least when the Light's mostly drained. And there's bits of Corruption here and there. The Obelisk is the SE equivalent to the Parasite in Gavel, but it doesn't produce any parallel Light Decay in the SE. In fact it does basically nothing aside from providing inexplicable mercy to the Luthans.

 

There isn't much darkness in Lutho, there's normal grass and some normal plants.

 

Inside the obelisk yes but in lutho proper there's plenty darkness

There's a second obelisk in the Silent Expanse...
Altho I guess it got drained of light, maybe the corruption faded when there stopped being any conflict

I thought the lore was pretty well explained, but might just be my head canon:
Bob went to Dern and fought the dern beast, but realised he couldn't win against it. Instead, he cut out one of its eyes and sealed the eye with his life so that the beast would be weaker for the next person to face it.

 

The Derb beast took out it's own eye and placed it at the outlook after Bak'al's defeat. Bob left Wynn at some point after that.
