Wynncraft is...Actually Fun Right Now! (For Me)

    ...But oh boy, did it take awhile for me to get there. Game's got a learning curve to it.

    It also doesn't help that a lot of people on the Discord seem to...Struggle, with comprehending a lot of my problems with the game.

    But since I'm sure anyone checking out the forums to look me up is gonna ask, here's an incomplete but decent list of things and "problems" that I have remedied through the acquisition of skill, maturity, patience, and knowledge:

    • New Spells don't actually need to happen for the current Classes. I consider Archetypes, Major IDs, and Builds to recontextualize our existing 4 Spells well enough to
    • We don't need a 6th Class. With 15 Archetypes actively being rebalanced, I think we may someday have those Archetypes able to loosen up more someday and become 15 unique FOUNDATIONS for our own playstyles. I've already found how Archer's Ability Tree can be creatively used to some very niche, but nicely boredom-staving effect!
    • Since the last playthrough attempt, I've dropped doing Professions entirely, played my first Corrupted Dungeon (press F to pay respects for their removal, I really liked the Corrupted Dungeons...), played 2 Raids as Summoner Shaman, and learned to be more self-sufficient on Builds while using the Discord for help when I need it.
    • Oh right, I'm also on the official Wynncraft discord every now and then. The place is alive for sure, I have some good moment-to-moment fun and learning experiences there.
    • I'm making an effort to not procrastinate playing quests, even though I fear they'll suck me in due to bugs breaking my experience or story that can spark my imagination or just fearing that they'll take a lot more time than I have nowadays.
    • I'm gonna try to understand the lore as well, and catch up to where the veterans are so that I can understand the game better.
    • I've explored the Ability Trees of Shaman, Archer, and Assassin up to Level 50s-60s on all of them so far, and Level 30s on Mage. I'm so happy to see everyone's in a better state of fun, even if all that changed was my mindset for approaching them. (Shocker, Classes' Archetypes and Ability Trees are more fun when you play them instead of dismissing them for their downsides)
    • I have a new passion for learning and understanding this game. From both a POV as a hobbyist game designer and an actual player, I've never seen something quite like Wynncraft before - in all of it's pros and cons.

    Honestly I have a lot less hurdles to clear now. I'd spend more time complaining, but I think we're all tired of that and nitpicks galore. I'll just try to do it where it actually helps, this time.

    My personal Records (at the time of writing):
    • Level 75 Shaman
    • Level 61 Archer
    • Level 30s Mage
    • Level 50s Assassin
    • Shaman Builds: Aura Nuke, Mask-Tanky Summoner, Mask-Tanky Acolyte,
    • Assassin Builds: none yet...
    • Mage Builds: none yet...
    • Archer Builds: Artillery Trapper, Ghost-Scope Sharpshooter, Stomplet Veil Sharpshooter
    • One other post made on the Forums (because I really don't have much to say yet)
    • I've never had more fun in an MMORPG than this current playthrough. I've learned so much about the game, and have much more to go, but I'm confident it'll satisfy me and/or provide closure to all of my past playthroughs...

    One last thing for now:

    • The ultimate Class suggestion is now in a "casual state" of development.
    • See the spoiler below for a sample of what I'll be working on.
    • Because of the scope, you'll be waiting to see that for awhile, but at minimum, I will be making that post before I leave Wynncraft again,
    • and if it's incomplete when I can no longer stay, I will leave it in the "Your Work" section for someone else to pick up the torch.
    • It's hard to keep promises, but I'll do my best to hold myself to this one at least.
    A Sneak Peek at my Class Suggestion's Contents:
    I know what I'm doing. I know at least a large chunk of what needs to happen for a Claas to be added to the game.

    I've quietly studied for years, each playthrough giving me more and more information to work with.

    I know this won't be something most people approve of.

    I know I'm supposed to be a "lazy ideas guy" who just sits around and makes bad takes, while complaining and playing Wynncraft like everyone else.

    ...And I won't give up on doing this easily.

    Outside of Wynncraft, while I was away, I took up game development, animation, and a small variety of other practical skills. I've grown a lot, and won't waste my time trying to prove it.

    I've learned a lot about myself, and a lot of lessons, from playing Wynncraft intermittently for 4 years.

    Truly giving up on what I want is not one of them.

    Obvious Basics:
    • Class Name
    • Class Bio
    • A Stat Total of 13
    • Promotional Art for the Website
    • 4 Spells
    • An Alternate Version (cosmetic, accessible at [Pending] Rank and above)
    • A Weapon Type that actually fits Wynncraft and cannot be dismissed by new Major IDs or Items on the other Classes, unlike many forums-based Class Suggestions before it.
    Intermediate:
    • At least 7 distinct Weapon Models for basing Items on
    • A full Ability Tree with 3 Archetypes, designed to mix following other Classes' conventions with my own ideas for the Class
    • A comprehensive Justification & Design Document further detailing my decisions when making and designing all of the above and below, to the best of my own ability.
    • A Google Drive for storing everything that anyone can see when I end my work on the 6th Class
    Completely Overboard:
    Y'know, if I have time.
    • Active adjustments to the Class to make it balanced and healthy in the current mid and lategame meta, based on play experience and previous balancing history where applicable
    • an Open-Source Command Block Demonstration of the Class (featuring the entire Ability Tree)
    • Digital Concept Art and/or models for over 40 Weapon Skins to retroactively apply to all previous collections (even if they're not accessible anymore)
    • 200 Item suggestions to go with the Class, across all Level ranges and phases of the game, to give the Content Team a starting point to jump off of, with conscious attempts to make them not overlap with the other Classes' Items (except where it's standard to)
    • A chapter in the J&D Document about my Reverse-Engineering process, written by me with a goal of being applicable to Early, Midgame, and Lategame Items for the purposes of faithfully succeeding Wynncraft's existing player-accessible build and option contents at the time of research (2025-202X)
    • Actually
    • Doing
    • All of the above.
    • Seriously.
    • I'm tired of waiting, and it's right there.
    Not Included:
    • An update name
    • A development/release schedule to follow
    • Quests with characters or new regions/areas based around the Class' existence
    • Mythics and Fabled Items for the Class
    • Any contaminations of this Class Suggestion by my previous works, including all previous forum posts from me.
    The above points can be decided by the Content Team.

    What's also not included:
    • As much personal bias as I can set aside
    • Everything I have to say on this, directly in the post itself (this will be organized, developed, and structured as professionally and cleanly as I can make it)
    • An actual reason for me do this, other than these: Because it's satisfying for me, because it will expand my portfolio of work skills in the process, and because it's within my power to accomplish this suggestion.

    ...I may ask for volunteer help in the near future for accomplishing all of this. Look forward to that, but expect me to overwork myself just a bit...
    ...Because I unreasonably have more passion and drive for accomplshing this than anyone in the entire Wynncraft playerbase, community, and dev team.

    So ye, Wynncraft's fun for me. Biggest gaming challenge I've ever had in my life. Can't wait to make time to continue my current playthrough!

    And if it's not obvious already, I've changed since my posts before this fall and winter.
    Seriously, why do certain Discord people think I still side with past me on all those takes just because I said them one time in a post years ago? Just so they have another thing to leverage in a 10-minute convo? And I'm gonna be negative for a sec: They can sometimes be rude, callous, and use GIFs in place of rational, calm discussion points.

    Or just stubborn about how I'M a problem and not them, which I'll be using to fuel my machinations with a hint of spite from now on. Though interestingly, they hit a breaking point where they give up much before I do.

    I've not once started a conversation with the pure intent being to ragebait. I discuss how I feel, they call me and the takes trash, and I try to explain to them, but can't seem to get through to them most of the time. When they start having nothing but ridicule to say, all I can do is take it as a sign that they're starting to lose their sanity or patience for the overall discussion.

    With that said, I'll be disregarding any callous people who won't accept that I'm a different, better person than I used to be.

    This thread ain't the most organized or beta-read thing in the world because I have academics and assignments I need to get back to. So, sorry about that!

    I also hope I didn't miss anything, but if I did, I can just add it later.

    ...Oops? I just use light mode because I have been for 4 years. Sorry, I'll look into making a Dark Mode toggle for my next one. (this pink text should work on both modes, but definitely looks a bit tacky...)

    Funny, I thought everybody would be jumping on the idea of not having to choose their playstyle and run pure Archetypes. They already seem to dislike making their own builds on the Discord, but that could just be confirmation bias...Or the fact that building alone can be really hard unless you're actively using Wynnbuilder. And that build-making can be a pretty slow process unless you know most of the items already.

    Hope this ain't too off-topic, but,
    Y'know, it's weird, a lot of the problems I've seen people have with Wynncraft seem completely irrational.
    I'm a level 105 Arcanist Mage, and I'm having a blast. Lootrunning/Raiding is lovely, Festivals are lovely, the people are lovely. Seriously, keep away from Discord, there are probably (I'm not on there) a lot of angry gamers on there. Most of the people I interact with on Wynncraft, and these lovely Forums, are amazing.
    It seems like a lot of the issues people have boil down to... Well, being bad at the game. I dunno if my really skilled brother has just rubbed off on me, but Wynncraft has never struck me as a particularly difficult game. I mean, as long as you prepare well and actually update your gear frequently, or get a Mythic build once you're in the endgame, you're golden.
    It's double weird, cause most of the problems people talk about would only be run into if you're playing Wynncraft obsessively. (Y'know, leveling up a ton of classes to max, getting way too into the trade market, etc)
    I will say, Professions are an actual problem. They've gotta be the worst part of the game by far.

    This is just how debate on discord works.
    It's slightly better in the furoms, but honestly not amazing still.

    It's especially annoying when things you say are misrepresented, but before you can refute that, other people who also disagree with you, start piling onto the misrepresenting of the argument you made.

    It's also not uncommon for people to go towards character attacks or just being generally dicks, hell, I've had content team members do that.

    I think Wynncraft just attracts a lot of unconventional problems to itself lol. For example, the hundreds of items clogging up the pool which aren't very good even at maximum rolled stats. After having played a bunch, I could list off a couple other "actual" problems, and then rattle off a ton of my own issues that I ran into with the game. There's a huge amount of content to experience!

    On that note, the Quests are decently written - incredibly jank, but I can't say I haven't found a quest yet that's been bad enough for me to not pay attention...Although when it comes to the story moments, I oddly feel like I'm being weak by appreciating the stories instead of seeing it as another rung in the leveling/EXP ladder for me to ascend? Most of the people in the Discord are already on content which discards most of the non-current story already.

    Wynncract's issues/benefits are two sides on a coin which deeply fascinate me from a game design and gamePLAY perspective.
