Serious So I Just Returned to Wynn, it Feels..... Abandoned

?

Does it seem like the old wynn is gone, just a bittersweet memory?

I was last serious about wynncraft around the economy update, having left the server to get on with life in the early days of 2.0. It used to be such a lively server, but now it seems like a ghost town. No one I recognize, everything is different, half the guilds are no more, among other things I noticed. No new content really either, despite being away 2 years.

So, I decided to check the discords.
    - Lootrunners guild seems abandoned, roughly 10 people chatting daily
    - The wynncraft official discord seems to have a very different vibe than it used to
    - The old guild discords are fully dead

So, I started to sense that maybe there was more to the picture, maybe it is because we all grew up? I mean, everyone that was playing then has jobs now, families, and other adult responsibilities, so surely that is the problem right?

Well, I decided to message some of my old friends, ones that were unlikely to ever give up on the game. Many of them said that it was the ability tree that killed wynn for them, others skeptical of fruma, others still critical of the now old news Economy Update.

So, I finally decided to take a look at the total player count. 591 online at the time I am writing this post. The servers used to go up to 64 players, and most used to be full, so surely that means something. I can hardly remember a time I signed on and there were less than 1000 players online, usually gathered around Detlas, Cinfras, Corkus City, and Ahmsord. But now, I fear the game I grew up with is no more.

I am hopeful for what Fruma will bring, but I feel like there is something missing, like the ghost of a vibrant community that used to be, but is no more.

If anyone else has felt the shift in atmosphere, I’d like to hear your story too

    Hey, welcome back!

You are right, a lot has changed the past couple of years. And i think that's a good thing! I think it makes total sense that a lot the things you are familiar with have died down, since the game is in a constant state of transformation, and players come and go.

The biggest example would be the lootrunning discord you mentioned. Since the complete overhaul of the lootrunning system, most of the server's purpose was suddenly voided, and they weren't willing to change the server to move with the update. So while more people actually started lootrunning (if i had to guess), they mostly stayed in wynnmain.

As for player numbers, the 24 hour peak always breaches the 1000 player mark. So as others have said, the server is doing absolutely fine right now. Not to mention the crazy player count spike during annihilation!

There is still festivals, there are still lots of smaller and bigger active guilds, updates are being rolled out left and right and fruma is coming! Quite an exciting time, i'd say.

I'm sure if you look around a bit you can rediscover a sense of the wynn community :)

Pleasure to see you, and welcome back MonkeySeaDew :)

It's also exam season, so you might see reduced activity overall. OCE/AS Timezones are generally less active than NA/EU timezones.

A bit of a technical term to describe some of these behaviours you might have been seeing: ontological uncertainty. Which is completely normal to see in humans

It can be difficult for some older guilds to survive. As player activity changes, it likewise might require leadership changes. Implementing and reassessing systems to keep the guild functioning, just like a company or government - some guilds lack these systems unfortunately.

I believe the new region: Fruma will introduce new + old players back to the game. It will be coming in early 2026. Human curiosity can be quite a powerful force indeed.

Current player count = 695. At a non-peak hour time (presumably)

Welcome home brother, Wynn has been waiting.

In all realness, it may feel like the playerbase is smaller partially because of a mass migration from the forums to discord, including most guilds having their own private communication channels. Another reason could simply be that the world is so much larger now, and there are so many new servers, making it less likely to see other players while in the farther reaches of the world, and many of them have their head to the grindstone, working at profs or raids for guilds or personal adventure.

Wynn has definitely changed, and it's changed a lot. Is it for the better? I would have to say so. Even if some people have drifted away, new players are drifting in, and new content brings some of us old players back to the fun.

Needless to say, we've all grown up, and I think that Wynn itself has grown up too.
