Lore/Story Musical Wynnterpretations - Chimera's Wreck by Porcupine Tree

Hey y'all! While listening to some certain songs, I happened to notice potential correlations to the Wynncraft lore in the lyrics. Of course it's just a coincidence and a product of my imagination, but it was quite fun to find these "Wynnterpretations" of the lyrics. The thought has been bugging be for quite some time, so I've decided to try to write one down and post it on the forums. I've decided to go for "Chimera's Wreck" by Porcupine Tree as it has the lyrics in which I find correlations to Wynncraft lore more than any other song. In italics I will put the lyrics of the song, each followed by a bit of explaination.

Chimera's Wreck - Porcupine Tree

In my Wynnterpretation of it, the song should narrate a moment of reflection from Lari. She's sitting by herself, in a late evening of the Olux Swamp before she came to know the player, and she's thinking of her life and the mission that Orphion gave to her.

A coat of arms is all we are

Lari is thinking of the villagers who govern Gavel, who she finds insensible and blind to the plague of the Olux and Kander regions, with them only focusing on their greed-oriented politics and their wars.

The slow decay, a dying star

Quite clearly refers to the phenomenon of the Decay; "a dying star" could refer at the same time to the plagued land in Gavel, Orphion's Light being dimmed by the Parasite, and Lari's mental condition itself.

A sinkhole for the crawling of the hours

Lari is looking at the wormholes in the swamp, symbol of the toll the land and its creatures are paying. Centuries have passed since the beginning of the Decay, and yet it continues to thrive, at the expense of Gavel.

Afraid to be
What I should be
The sum of all
Of new and old

Now Lari is thinking of her role in all of that. She originally had the clear mission of stopping the spread of Darkness and making the Light triumph; she was the chosen one, she had to reconcile the new threat that appeared after the Equinox with the old forests dominated by Light. But, alas, after a thousand years, she still hasn't accomplished her job; despite trying and trying she is afraid she isn't worthy anymore.

Experience has made me none the wiser

And again she puts emphasis on the passing of time; all of those attempts, all of those efforts, but it's like she hasn't learned anything, it's like she has to start over every time.

This is a refrain of the song because it summarizes what Lari is feeling and her mental state; something that keeps echoing in her head, she tries to ignore it, but is not able to. Despite trying to appear positive, Lari feels that there is nothing to be happy about, to the point that if she happens to feel joy she repels it, almost like she's thinks she's getting too distracted from her purpose. Her situation is oppressing, tiring, and it's destroying her internally; because of her morals and ideals she could never commit suicide, but if she happened to die, she wouldn't mind.

Chimera's wreck around my neck

"Chimera's wreck" is a metaphor for everything that has been putting Lari under strain; "Chimera" because it's composed of many elements and experiences (the Decay, Orphion's mission, Dullahan's story, the exile from Aldorei, etc.) and "wreck" because it's fundamentally a disastrous and destructive mess. Lari is feeling choked by Chimera's wreck.

To start again, to dream again
To fix the things that cursed me from the start

After her deep thoughts of the Refrain 1 echoed again, Lari is trying to keep them away, she's trying to see hope, to search for the Light. She wants to keep trying, to keep searching for a way to fix her ancient "curses". Lari is trying to convince herself she can, but maybe she's delusional, and she knows it. These positive thoughts don't last for long.

My father smiles
At me the child

She keeps trying to channel positive thoughts, trying to remember her carefree childhood, before the Equinox took place.

Now getting tired
And losing drive

But, there we go, she cannot keep those ghosts out of her head. That cheerful "child" is now adrift, she has terrible mental health.

The clarity that age has brought to me

It looks like she's contradicting herself from a previous line ("Experience has made me none the wiser") but this clarity is actually the clarity that she will keep trying, but she will never be able to accomplish her mission. Now she seems depressed again; we can see how her mood swings (and the predominant swings are the "bad" ones)

Lari is mad at herself. She was gifted, Orphion had chosen her. But she wasted everything, she did nothing but mistakes. The sad reality is that this is her life (and also she is thinking of how badly she handled the Dullahan situation)

Lari feels castaway; she feels alone, she thinks she doesn't need anything in her life anymore, all of this because of "Chimera's wreck", which will not be stopped and keep causing damage and harm.
