Official Event Item Lore Writing Contest!

Hey Everybody!

I'm here with you for a once in a lifetime opportunity to get your own ideas into the game!

A lot of our Items do not currently have any lore so we thought that we would give you guys the opportunity to put your own mark into the game while we are also currently working on adding more!

How to participate

It's very simple, fill out this form here (<- click it)

You will need to pick the item for which you want the lore for
Then write a piece of lore for it (a short, concise, piece of text explaining the flavour of the item).

We will select one for each of the items and put them into the game.

Make sure to analyse the items, find the right context to write the best lore possible for them.
You can only submit 1 response per item, but you can submit lore for each of them if you want.

This contest will end in 1 week on the 2nd of April, a new thread will be made to announce the results with the winners and the new lore to be added into the game shortly after!

Floccy Submissions So Far:

- Shine Suffocator
"Sunlight fades within the usury clutch of the storm, its conquest below witnessed only in flashes of lightning amidst a haze of endless, glistening torrent." Probably too much to write for one of these, but still good exercise!

- Effervescence
"As one wields this staff, it dawns that becoming more attuned to forces unseen is more assimilation than awareness." This is my target length for these, personally. Wait a second... they're wands, aren't they? Oops. Hey CT, you'll scrub up any errors like that for the ones you like, right?

- Stratosphere
"From the foot of the tower, a birdwatcher freezes as an unfamiliar shape takes wing above. While the form glacially descends, distant shouts of frustration from the tower's top, and the increasingly apparent spin of the object tempers their expectations." I should have written 'at the foot of the tower', but I'm putting it here as I had submitted it in the form. Dammit!

- Obsolescent Panoply
"Here is the world. Here is the universe, here is the first place of all places, gallery of all galleries... and here descends its enemy; time." Can't decide if this or Shine Suffocator is my favorite. Maybe change 'here descends' to 'now descends'?

- Blank Stare
"In the marbling of wood grain. Drying moisture in the cobbles. Clumps of flowers. Tree bark, birth marks, the pattern of this plate - unflinching faces trapped, now revealed. The question pierces your mind: what shape will I be hewn into, one day?" I was really afraid of this writing anything for this one and still am. This is my submission of least confidence. Build a house over it and sell it for a dime.

 

Finally! It's my time to shine!

 

These always are so exciting. Even just seeing the end result. Can’t wait for the reveal of what gets in the game!

This will definitely never happen again and has never happened before. Absolutely once in a lifetime. (If your lifetime is about a year or three)

Stratosphere:
-Before mastering Gravitational magic to shoot for the moon Astraulus enchanted this chestplate with a weaker version of the same spell. Unfortunately this only got him to the Stratosphere.

 

(it's because we kill all participants once the contest is over)

 

Mine for Effervescence (I hope it's not too long):

Under the sand of the Seavale Reef, small pockets in the rock sometimes emit tiny bubbles of sky vapor. Despite unable to carry any usable magical capabilities due to their size, if released in bursts big enough, they might infuse their properties to the surrounding pieces of coral, pearls and diamonds.

 

I've started to look at other lore items for reference, and honestly most lored items have about as much flavour text as you've written! Here's something about that length. And here, is something that's even a bit longer.

 

- Stratosphere:
"Forged from the storm-touched ether, this chestpiece calls its wearer to rise above the sky. With every step, the pull of the earth weakens. Jump, and for a moment, you are weightless—caught between the clouds and the stars. Leap, and the heavens may answer."

 

Effervescence: "There was an ancient order of mages whose apprentices had to create their own wands. This eternal shard of ice was created by the order's greatest member, though when she made it she was young and unscarred."

Not precise wording.

 

Stratosphere:

"Into the stratosphere we go!"
