Hello. This is a thread where I want to ask you (yes, YOU) about what makes the Wynn forums that special place where you keep coming back to.

This almost goes of a self-introduction that I never wrote; I'm Texas (and ironically, not from the States), not all that much of a gamer really. I used to play a little bit of Wynncraft in 2014-2015 when my parents got my brother Minecraft and I ended up playing in his account from time to time. I had a friend at the time introduce me to the server, which was more of a "I play this server in Minecraft" and me going "Oh cool my brother has Minecraft I'll ask him to try it out."
However that was 2014 and that was a long time ago. Since then things like the Microsoft account migration happened and I'm quite sure that my brother, who long since moved on from video games, never migrated the account, and neither did I. Quite frankly I don't even remember the specific username nor even know the logins.

Fast forward to 2024, through an unrelated conversation I rediscovered Wynncraft and had bought a new account after discovering Microsoft's account migration stealing the old one. Joined back last summer, played for a month or so, dropped it for a bit due work and now recently I've reignited my interest to the server.

Now finally to the topic if the thread; why am I in the forums?

I'm not quite an enjoyer of Discord, sure I have it but it's not my thing.
Discussions in Discord are too fast, often seem to revolve around meta and strategies of the game which I'm frankly not super knowledgeable or interested in, and in general the pace of discussion feels like if you go out for 5 minutes you're entirely lost.

I like forums like this for how engaging in conversation works opposed to Discord in general (not limited to Wynncraft) and that the real activity required to staying on the loop being considerably less than it is in Discord.

Furthermore I created my forums account now instead of 8 months ago as I'm reaching the point of my playthrough where I feel like starting looking for a guild. However most of the guilds actively recruiting players seem not-so-quite for me.
I'm not really looking for any benefits that being in a guild has inside the game, rather some people I can always party up with and do whatever with when I happen to be on the server.
Mostly my relative non-knowledge of the metas and activity requirements of most guilds are putting me off.
What I want from a guild is low-to-no obligations while I don't exactly care if the guild itself is that active or not.
That is more of a thing to put into the Guilds section, but it is directly related to why I even have a forums account and I'll probably get to it later. Have had my eyes on RES for a few days but I'm still a bit undecided if I want to join that guild specifically or weight my options.

For now, I'm surfing the forums, having a good time reading any interesting threads that pop up, and playing Wynncraft when I have the time.

I hope this thread catches at least some replies to read and reply to on my breaks at work today or after.
Further if anyone here has a guild as described that would like a weekends-mostly active member I'd appreciate a word.

If you read this far, thanks.
I wish you have a great day!

This is just so unfortunate, but at the same time understandable given just how popular Discord is. Not only is it popular but I also believe newer/younger players might not have that much of a desire to use the forums to begin with. Most people will already have a discord account and it will be a familar platform to them. We're getting to a point where when I ask someone outside the forums (and outside Wynn) if they've used forums in the past, the answer is no more often.

I'm a younger individual, at least below [[legal]]. I joined the Forums recently because I don't wanna join a Discord server, cause I don't trust them, and because I've been an artist for a good bit and have wanted to be able to post stuff for a while.
I don't see why people want to use Discord either, it seems much closer to a private messaging software than something like the Forums. Its features are more built towards people who are actually close and want to stay in contact, friend groups who want to organize stuff, etc. The Forums are built with a more open, pop in and say your piece type of thing.
...I've also just been playing Wynncraft semi-consistently for a long time, and wanted to get closer to the community.

This is a good take and you're absolutely right!
Discord's core idea is different from the forums, but Discord is also massively popular especially around gamers and will thus attract the average new player way easier than the forums.
It's unfortunate because I believe there could potentially be space for both, but in the long run Discord will be the primary reason that forums will die.

I'm new here, and not really finding anything to get engaged in yet. But, I'm new so maybe that will change when I'm done questing my first character through the game, idk. Historically I love forums, these are my favorite sort of 'social media' if you will. I think more could maybe be done to help new people be engaged with it. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see that it's here and people are actually using it, in this age where most communities that would have a forum are moved completely over to Discord (which, totally does not fulfill the same purposes as a forum..)

Lately, I prefer forums to Discord servers, because partly there are hundreds of conversations that can happen in a single Discord channel and I just can't keep up, and partly because Discord is terrible when it comes to back-reading chats. (Okay, they're improving the latter aspect recently, but if your Internet connection is poor, then it's still a struggle.)

I have multiple monitors because I have an extreme level of wealth and prestige. This allows me to simultaneously play the game, browse the forums, and caress my badge. I'm fully immersed with the brand, and the forums is an essential part of my Wynn routine. If you don't got a Wynn routine please do not respond to this post.

    Honestly, the Llegivar Docks.
I used always rush to a new thread and give them a proper welcome and advice. It was fun, to see the new faces, show them a little friendliness in the big world... Then I met the OWWC gang there, a group of likeminded people. Those glorious times... and the amount of rp did there...

And now that era passed, and I am not more than the veteran I proclaim myself as. A person stuck on their duty, unable to say farewell, yet ever more hesitant to fullfill it. So everyone now and then I reappear, put up the tired facade and give that what I didn't receive.

Actual veteran flashbacks to times where Forum Games were very active and loor threads popped every day or so.
The memories I made here certainly help, ngl. Ffs, I started reminiscing and now I feel like a relic lmao.

Are you interested in the lore and the wiki?

The nostalgia I suppose, I had played this game before the Microsoft migration and ended up needing to buy a new account but the fond memories stuck. I do get what you mean about a chill and laidback guild as I’ve been in a bit of a limbo between playing and interacting with the community. If you find any success with a guild I’d very much love a message :)

Oh it's been so long since I made this thread a lot has happened.
As someone who also originally played Wynncraft (for maybe a grand 30 hours?) in 2014 and had to buy a new account for migration I can kind of get it. Now I wasn't such a regular at this game that I know everything under the sun but coming back a year ago was still extremely nostalgic and a big reason I had that activity push in the forums after I just kept coming back to the game.

What comes to guilds, I've also learned and seen a lot since the creation of this thread. I've settled down with The Aquarium, which any veteran might remember as a tryharding nolifer guild, but especially in the last 5 months has become far more relaxed and casual than ever before.
It's quite a bit bigger than I initially intended, however I found a disappointing fact that there just isn't the level of activity in most guilds to keep me interested by friends there alone.
At this point if I ever leave TAq without a thorough plan I could just as well quit Wynn.
