    Introduction
Wynntils is an amazing mod that adds countless functionality to Wynncraft, including an in-game map (no more map.wynncraft.com), vastly improved UI and content book, a seemingly endless amount of configuration, and so much more!

This thread will teach you how to install Wynntils on the latest version of macOS (15.2).

First, if you are completely new to Minecraft modding, I suggest reading the following for some background information:
    • A "mod" is a collection of code that builds atop Minecraft's code to change parts of the game.

    • Each mod's file name ends in ".jar".

    • For Minecraft to apply the mod, the .jar file must be put in a place the game recognises. By default, this is an existing folder in your file system titled "mods". We'll see how to access this folder later.

    • However, even when you put the .jar file in the "mods" folder, Minecraft doesn't know what to do with it. To load the mod, you need a client that reads all mods in the folder and adds them to the game.

    • This client is a separate installation of Minecraft, selectable on the launch screen. We'll see how to install this later.

For this tutorial, I will show you how to install a client named "Fabric". Unlike the vanilla Minecraft installations, Fabric collects all the mods in the folder, before launching the game with all the additional changes.

    1) Find the "mods" Folder.
All mods must be put in an existing folder named "mods". To find it:

    • Open the "Finder" app (located in your mac's hotbar).

    • Click on "Go" in the topbar (at the top-left corner of your desktop), then "Go To Folder".

    • Type "~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods".

    • This will redirect the current window to the existing "mods" folder. If you've previously installed any other mods, they will appear here. If not, then it will be empty.

    2) Download the Wynntils .jar File.
All mod files end in the file extension ".jar". To download the Wynntils mod file:
    • Go to modrinth.com/mod/wynntils/

    • Click on "Download"

    • Set the game version as the latest one available (as of writing this, 1.21.1), and the platform as "Fabric", and click "Download".
Don't worry about the "Install with Modrinth App" prompt
Remember the game version you choose, as we'll need it later.

    • You now need to drag the download into the "mods" folder.

    • If you're not sure how to do this:

    • Have the topbar set for "Finder" -> Click on "File" -> "New Finder Window".

    • Click on "Downloads" on the left of the newly-opened window. You'll see the file you just downloaded.

    • Drag it into your "mods" folder by holding it with your cursor, and moving it to the other window titled "mods."

    3) Download the Fabric Installer.
By default, Minecraft has no way to read the mods. We need to install the Fabric client for this.

    • Go to fabricmc.net/use/installer/

    • Click on "Download Installer (Universal/.JAR)".

    • The file should appear in your downloads folder. Double click on the file to open it.

    • On almost all macs, it will come up with a "fabric-installer.jar Not Opened" error. Apple automatically does this for all .jar files as it's hard to tell if they contain malware. No worries, this .jar file is perfectly safe.

    To open it:

    • Open the "System Settings" app.

    • Click on "Privacy and Security"

    • Scroll down until you see "fabric-installer.jar was blocked to protect your mac", and click on the "Open Anyway" prompt. This prompt appears only after you've gotten the error message in the image above.

    • It may ask you for your password.
    • There's a good chance that the newly-opened file will return the error: "Unable to locate a Java runtime". If this failure occurs. continue to the next step titled "4) Install Java". If it successfully opens, skip to "5) Install the Fabric Client". Note that you will need an internet connection to use the Fabric Installer program.

    4) Install Java
You'll need to have Java installed for the Fabric installer to work.

    • Go to "oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads". Scroll down a little bit until you see the download links for the latest version of JDK (Java Development Kit).

    • Make sure you have the latest version of Java selected. As of writing this, it's JDK-23 (Java Development Kit 23).

    • Make sure you're on the macOS series of downloads. You'll be greeted with a screen similar to this:

    • There are four download options. We will be choosing between either "ARM64 DMG Installer" or "X86 DMG Installer".

To know which one to download:

    • If your mac is part of the Apple Silicon line of products (M1, M2, M3...), download the ARM64 DMG Installer.

    • If your mac is not part of Apple Silicon, download the X86 DMG Installer.
    • Double click the DMG file you just downloaded to open (it should be in the Downloads folder, but it might also appear on the Desktop)

    • Open the .pkg file inside and follow the steps to install. Don't worry about configuring anything, just keep proceeding to the next step.

    • Once Java is installed, reopen the Fabric installer, and it should come up successful. You will need an internet connection to use it, or it will come up with more errors.

    • Also, you can move the DMG Installer to the bin as it's no longer necessary.
    5) Install the Fabric Client
Use the program you just opened to add the fabric client as a selectable option in Minecraft's launcher.

Remember the version number of your wynntils .jar download? For me, it was 1.21.1. As such, I will select 1.21.1 in the "select version" prompt. You do the same for your version of Wynntils.

    • Don't worry about the other options. Just click "Install" and it should do it's thing.

    • After it's finished installing, close your Minecraft launcher if it's already open, then reopen it to refresh everything.

    • Now you'll find a new selectable client.

    • Have the client selected, click the play button, and Wynntils should be active!
I wouldn't move the Fabric Installer to the bin as it is still useful in case you want to use mods for other versions.

    Possible Errors
If you encounter errors, here might be some of the causes:

    • The client version number of the Wynntils .jar file does not match the version number of your Fabric Client

    • You downloaded the wrong JDK for your computer's architecture (e.g. downloading the ARM64 variant if your computer can only run X86).
    • You downloaded an outdated version of JDK no longer compatible with Minecraft.

    • You don't have an internet connection, preventing you from using the Fabric Installer program.

If you still get errors, please reply to this thread with your issue in detail. I'll try to respond asap.

That's it for the guide! For those 0.0000000000000001% of wynncraft users that use a mac, I hope this is helpful.
If you ever want to install other mods, simply download the .jar file for the right fabric version, and drag them into the "mods" folder.

This is my first attempt at making a guide, so please provide me feedback.

I messed up my Java download. What now?

If you feel you've messed anything up with your Java installation, here's how to uninstall it:

Provided you didn't change the install location when setting it up, the JDK installer should set up Java in "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines". An easy way to access this folder is by opening Finder, clicking "Go" in the topbar -> "Go to Folder", then typing "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines" in the search bar that pops up.

In this folder, you'll see any Java versions that you've installed. This is what my folder looks like:

To uninstall Java, move any files you see here to the bin. Now, you can reinstall it if you feel anything went wrong.

Of note is that there are several alternative methods to install Wynntils, and one of my preferred ways is to use a 3rd party launcher called Prism Launcher. You can still absolutely do this with the vanilla launcher (so long as you install Fabric first), but Prism is insanely simple to mod.

That being said, Wynncraft is best experienced vanilla (w/ optimization mods, and no we're not talking OptiFine here - Sodium et al has already powercrept OptiFine to ObsoLete).
