I was wondering why my particle effects don't look the same as they used to, so I just tried doing /particles low and /particles unlimited and it changed nothing at all. I tried this both on my modded 1.21.1 instance, as well as a vanilla 1.21.4 and 1.20.2 instance and all three didn't change anything

Is anyone else having the same issue?

and weird part is, it did work propperly on the last beta.
it feels like it is permanently stuck on a lower setting which makes a lot of spells and player effects look broken.

Yeah I swear it wasn’t that long ago ago that it worked, it’s stuck at around medium. I may have to make a bug report about it

Shortly after 2.1 they introduced a particle culling system to help reduce server lag so the amount of particles gets capped at a certain point so I guess it's related to that

Aren’t particles client side? Doing scrapyard grind parties in the past, going from particles unlimited to low cut the lag drastically. Now most of the player effects don’t work the same, some just look like fart particles

Now i’m not sure if this is warrants a bug report or not

Rendering wise yes but that data to tell you to render it still has to be sent to the client from the server

Right, makes sense. I still think the problem should be addressed, since none of the toggles work anymore
