• Lutho citizens who try to leave Happier Lutho are killed by the Toxic Wastes.
• When in Happier Lutho, you cannot leave.

The souls of the mutated Lutho citizens are still in happy lutho, and they're entirely unaware of what has become of their physical bodies.

"happier lutho" is just a giant hallucination caused by the monolith releasing orphions canned abis - the missing eyes? just a side effect of constant exposure.

And if we kill a Mutated Lutho Citizen, some Happier Lutho person might just be conversing with their friend and suddenly they explode into goo which the Happier Lutho person immediately forgets about.

Hm. Interesting. That's not information that's explicitly given in the story nor information you could feasibly distinguish as more likely than the alternative.

It does mean that Happier Lutho's soul trap is completely eternal and unending, which is probably fine unless it gets horrible after a while. It also makes me wonder if the bodies or souls of Lutho citizens can reproduce, because, if so, Orphion might be playing some sort of long game with the Obelisk.

Your soul actively separates from you in the quest and starts doing stuff on its own, entirely independent of your own actions. You are separate.

 

I don't feel like, after playing through Point of No Return, I fully get the impression that I could kill everyone in Lutho and not cause any changes to Happier Lutho. A soul-and-body disconnect doesn't necessarily mean that killing the body doesn't kill the soul.
