What are referred to as emeralds in game are actually metal rather than the gemstone we would refer to as an emerald.

    1. They can be melted (LE) and re-shaped (EB). Metal can do this. If you try to melt a gemstone, it will explode.

    2. They are entirely opaque. Gemstones typically let light through, but emeralds are a solid colour, more akin to a metal.

    3. While green metals don’t exist, there is precedent for different coloured metal. The resource cobalt in game is a blue metal, while cobalt in real life is a gray metal and blue metals do not exist. It would not be the only oddly-coloured metal.

    4. While emeralds are typically shown in a shape more akin to that of a gemstone, metals in game can be harvested in both ingot and gem form, making their shape not unusual for a metal.

What this means for the world: absolutely nothing. I just felt like it should be put out there.

I know this is not meant to be taken seriously, but you cannot make items anything but opaque I believe-- or at least, we currently cannot.

Wynncraft's minerals seem to differ greatly from ours. I suspect gem and metal are basically just different ways to refine a mineral, given most of Mining.

That being said, Sandstone and Granite are apparently metalgems, which makes very little sense and additionally implies that the ruins of the Sand Empire are made out of solid metal.

Really, this just has weird implications in general if it is true.

You can also craft armor using strings and paper.

Yeah, Wynncraft's professions don't have perfect logic.

For emeralds to be a metal it'd have to be reflective and conductive. There are not sources indicating it is not conductive but if it were the corkiand would probably easy.
Many minerals can melt when in pure form at temperatures lower than metals (such as salt). The existence of liquid emeralds also suggests that they can be dissolved in some kind of a solvent, which would yet again mean they are some kind of compound.
